first we're following breaking news. a mother and her 5-year-old child found dead inside their home in jersey city. >> how they died a mystery. eyewitness news report dolan with the latest. >> a heartbreaking story here in jersey city. a mother and her 5-year-old son found dead in a second floor apartment. the police and prosecutor's office are not saying if they know what the deaths suspicious. police got a 911 call around 6:00 this evening. the caller saying the mother and son were unconscious in the apartment. that second floor apartment, medics rushed to the hospital where both were pronounced dead this evening. there were no obvious signs of trauma and tests show no carbon monoxide in the apartment so it's not clear what happened and neighbors certainly had no idea what was going on. >> it's sad because that's my neighbor and it was very sad to know that's what happened.

>> you don't know anybody who lives in that building? >> no, i don't. >> seen the child running around? >> no. >> most neighbors did not know who the mother or the child were. they did not know anybody who lived in that building and police won't say who it was who called 911 or what that person's relationship to the mother and child were. again, a mother and her 5-year-old son found dead here in a second floor apartment on lincoln street here in jersey city. police calling the deaths suspicious but they are not giving any details about what happened here. for now, reporting live in jersey city, jim dolan, channel 7 eyewitness news. also in new jersey, we have new details on the fiery and deadly crash on the jersey turnpike. state police now say it was all caused by mattresses and box springs strewn in the middle of the highway. the accident this afternoon, killing the driver of the fuel tanker. investigators saying the driver trying to avoid slow traffic caused by those mattresses. he

lost control, hit a guard rail, flipped over and exploded. the suv was also involved in the accident but the driver is okay. crash causing massive traffic backups in the middle of rush hour. >> people were getting outside of their cars at that point and police were telling them to go back inside for their security. >> two northbound lanes of i-95 near carney still closed at this hour. no word on when they will reopen. new video touching off in an nypd internal affairs investigation to the beating of a suspect, not only at the hands of cops, but by a medic who accused a suspect of breaking in to his car and stealing his phone. aj ross on more of the violent confrontation happening inside a sunset park bodega. >> that video not only prompted an nypd internal investigation, it has a community activist tonight calling for systemic changes. we spoke with that activist outside this bodega a short time ago along with the suspect's stepfather. they're in agreement things went entirely too far.

>> reporter: a violent nypd takedown of an alleged phone thief inside this sunset park bodega has prompted an internal investigation after this surveillance video surfaced showing a medic and police officer choking and delivering blows to the face and chest of the suspect. >> punched him in the mouth, and they take out one of his tooth in front. >> reporter: we spoke with the stepfather of 21-year-old danielle shevchenko pictured here wearing a black shirt. according to police he stole a cell phone from the emt's car and was eventually tracked down store. what happened next, shevchenko's stepfather calls clearcut excessive force. >> just hold one guy down and beat him up. >> what you see is the cms worker interfering in an arrest, obstructing, starts choking this man and then starts punching him. you would expect the aside. >> reporter: community activist

dennis flores says altercations like this are happening all too often and widening the divide between the police and the communities they serve. he and others want to see real change in the department, not rhetoric. >> everybody is entitled to due process. if he did commit the crime and he didn't resist and he's being placed under arrest, all of that wasn't necessary. >> shevchenko is now facing a variety of charges including resisting arrest. no word on if any of the officers or the paramedic involved in this incident will face any disciplinary action. aj ross, channel 7 eyewitness news. >> thank you. mean while an nypd watchdog tonight substantiateing an excessive force complaint filed by former it tennis pro james blake. surveillance from september shows james freskatori tackling him. the board says the takedown was excessive. the officer will face an

said i want to express my appreciation to the civilian complaint review board for their quick and thorough review of the incident. pat lynch blasting the ruling, saying it is no surprise that the ccrb, which continues to be nothing more than cop hating branch of the new york civil liberties union would substantiate the use of force complaint in such a questionably public manner. we have new information tonight about a frightening kidnapping and a dramatic escape in connecticut. a teenaged girl lured in to a woman's car. the girl was assaulted and then with the car moving, as you can see, the girl jumps out. all of it caught on camera. police in bridgeport looking for the kidnapper. here's eyewitness news reporter josh einiger. >> reporter: the video shows the teenage girl's dramatic escape from what cops call a would-be abduction, the 17-year-old barrel rolling from to drive around town. police want your help in finding the driver, a woman in her 40s. >> a woman? that's different.

>> reporter: it started here at the corner of boston and palisade in bridgeport, the teen walking to school early monday morning when police say the driver of that charcoal gray toyota lured her in to the car and started assaulting her. the victim managed to bail and called police. >> maybe if it was a man trying to get her in the car, she wouldn't have gone in the first place but seeing that it's a woman. but she still don't know who that person is. >> reporter: police haven't said how the driver lured the victim in to the car but they her. her car described as a missing. the teenager forced to risk her life to get away. >> what else can she do? maybe if she didn't bail out she would be dead. she would be dead by now. >> reporter: police describe the driver, the suspect, as a woman of latin descent, in her 40s, was wearing her hair in a ponytail wearing a leather jacket and had freckles on her face. if you know who she is or

recognize that car, cops hope to in bridgeport, connecticut, josh einiger, channel 7 eyewitness news. a retired new york city cop wanted for the murder of his wife on long island is under 49-year-old paul lietgeb was arrested in upstate new york after a he's trisha odierna. she was found grove. police have not released the cause of death. a guilty plea in a gruesome family ming chen pleaded guilty to killing her mother and four children with a chen is a cousin and had been living with the family. chen faces sentenced in two weeks. that hero college student that saved lives during the gun massacre in oregon last week tonight is out of the hospital.

a judge in manhattan has ruled the mta had no justifiable reason to ban subway ads for a documentary about american muslim comedians. they rejected the ad, saying it violated the ban on political ads, but the judge says she can't confirm the ads were political. it is reviewing the ruling. president obama apologizing for a deadly air strike on a hospital in afghanistan. the white house says the president phoned the head of doctors without borders today. the u.s. had already admitted that the attack that killed 22 people was a mistake.

a drone crashes on long island on to sag harbor's main street. it caused a small fire that was quickly put out. a photographer was using it to take pictures of a building when something clearly went wrong. the drone slightly damaged two buildings on its way down. a boy was struck by the drone's propeller but not injured. more trouble tonight for the rookie broadway star kira knightly. she has been hurt again. producers canceling the performance at studio 54. the second problem in a week for knightly during her broadway debut. last week a man in the audience shouted at her and threw flowers before he was removed by security. it will get calmer i'm sure for that very talented actress. it is such a lovely night. there are actually a lot of people outside the studio, people just taking a stroll, enjoying the weather. >> this time of year you get a couple more mild nights. in the 60s right now. not too many more.

no question about it. outside we have partly cloudy to clear skies. many of you may have been looking to the south if you watch our 6:00 show, we talked about that rocket that nasa was launching from virginia. we posted a picture that came up. a little green dot in the sky. impressive. i was hoping for temperature right now at 11:00, 65 degrees. flip that around, you get our wind is calm, pressure on the rise. high today, 73. 6 above average. i think we'll be closer to our average tomorrow but still a little bit above. there are our sunrise and sunset times on your thursday. weather headlines go like this. we'll add a few more clouds to the sky, we'll lose a couple of degrees. rain returns on friday and there's even a couple thunderstorms possible. we'll have the timing on that rain in a moment. nice fall weekend. the rain is moving out of here on friday night leaving us with a dry weekend, cool on saturday, warm it up to 70 on sunday. speaking of 70s, how about 76 in newark. a few degrees cooler during the day

tomorrow. 65 in chelsea. 58 in midland beach. 66 jamaica, queens. park chester coming in at 64. hudson valley will drop in to the low 50s, upper 40s in the coolest spots. a few clouds will stop us from dropping too much tonight. patchy clouds around tomorrow morning. some places will be partly cloudy. there will be other places mostly cloudy for a little while. cool start. mid 60s during the afternoon. top out in the upper 60s. under partly sunny skies. the wind will be fairly light out of the east southeast. there's our cold front coming through north new england to about albany at this point. pretty chilly air on top of it but a lot of that is sliding to our north. a few degrees cooler for us tomorrow. then we track this storm over the northern great lakes. that has rain in it. that will be arriving here on friday. first thing on friday may get a couple showers. i'll advance the futurecast and show you. a few more fair weather cumulus clouds than we saw today. partly sunny sky.

on friday morning we could already have a couple showers that are working through the hudson valley. that could impact the morning commute. most of us won't see much during the morning hours. clouds could thin out midday. it will pop out to the middle 70s. a shower could impact the commute. things will move away friday evening allowing us to have a dry weekend. rainfall amounts around a quarter to third of an inch. those of us who get caught in thunder could push a half inch. still partly sunny skies overall, and as we get in to friday, we go from 74 to 76 degrees. at least a damp afternoon drive and maybe some morning showers as well. if you're thinking about seeing fall colors this weekend, poconos and catskills will be nearing peak. nice color showing up. partly to mostly cloudy skies. mix of sun and clouds tomorrow. a little bit cooler than today at 69. tomorrow night, down to 58.
