mets took a two games to one advantage last night. 13 hits for 13 runs in a big 13-7 win after managing five runs and 10 hits combined in games one and two. the mets are now in the driver's seat. the last thing they want to do is give up control in this series which does make it a big deal to win tonight. it's the dodgers in a must-win situation and the mets have to beat kershaw for a second time. >> we're not overconfident by any stretch. we know we've got to do exactly what we did the other night ask make him work. when he makes a mistake we better put a good swing on it because you're not going to get a lot of them. >> you're hoping his stuff is good. he's been pretty good on the short rest we've had a couple times but stuff has been good on those days. >> the series would resume thursday in los angeles if the mets can't get the job done here tonight. but nobody in the ballpark is thinking that way right now, least of all the fans. let's get back outside the stadium now. aj ross is

is it has you stopped up on the spot where route 17 comes in to 287. that has you backed up for a good 2-mile jam up, getting back toward franklin avenue. bumper to bumper all because of rubber necking and unfortunately looks like this is going to be out here for a while. shannon sohn, channel 7 eyewitness news. we turn to rocklin county -- rockland county and a deadly accident in nyack. firefighters her. n.j. burkett is at the scene with the latest. >> the victim was the from the street it looks like your typical suburban house but inside authorities say it was a fire trap. four apartments for 14 people, and yes, some of them were children and no working smoke detectors in any of the rooms. >> there was a lot of smoke

coming out of the house. >> reporter: 10-year-old melissa said the smoke and the screams were frightening. she was up on the second floor waiting for her school bus when the fire broke out. >> they said to my aunt, let's get out of here because the house is on fire. >> reporter: she escaped with her aunt and uncle, her cousin and little sister. her mother told us in spanish she and her husband were already at work. just two of the four families living in the 1600 square foot single family home. >> i had 40, 50 people standing in the street. >> reporter: central nyack's fire chief was first on the scene but couldn't reach the victim, identified as the homeowner's 61-year-old wife. >> by the time we got here, we had an employee involved in it. the fire moves very, very quickly. >> reporter: this is a death trap.

authorities say it could have been far worse. the house was carved in to four apartments for 14 people. this was a child's windowless bedroom in the basement. marissa's mother said she paid $1500 a month for her two bedrooms. >> when you put people in harm's way and you recognize the risk then taking money on top of it, you're a criminal. >> reporter: wendy kroner saw the smoke from the road this morning and was the first to call 911. >> it's really sad. the kids were in that house and there were so many people in that house. it just bothers me. >> the red cross is working tonight with the families. the victim is identified as jarnel cower. her husband is being treated for smoke inhalation. i'm told he could face

cause of the fire but ongoing enforcement of illegal conversions is being stepped up tonight. n.j. burkett, channel 7 eyewitness news. a man stabbed several times on a city bus in a fight over a seat. it happened around 1:45 this afternoon on a bus in the stapleton section of staten island. police say two men got in to an argument over a seat. that's when one of the men began stabbing the other. the 24-year-old victim was stabbed several times in the hands and chest. he's in serious condition at the hospital. police arrested and are questioning a shooting outside a nightclub in manhattan. investigators say the man who had been thrown out of the club returned early monday morning. he fired in to the crowd, leaving at closing time, hitting three women, 23-year-old walikque faussett died.

a woman arrested for an abduction that ended with a teenager jumping out of a moving car will stay behind bars. towanna randall charged with unlawful restraint, sexual assault, reckless endangerment. randall told the investigator she was giving the teen a ride and noticed the 17-year-old stole money from a car. to politics now. the democrats take center stage in the race for president in their first debate. candidates will take the stage in just a few hours from now in las vegas. frontrunner hillary clinton will be joined by bernie sanders, martin o'malley, jim webb. there will be an extra podium nearby just in case vice president biden suddenly decides to show up. you can see the reactions tonight at 11:00. benjamin netanyahu

tonight after a string of brutal and deadly palestinian assaults against israeli civilians. three israelis have been killed in jerusalem today by a pair of palestinian men who began shooting and stabbing passengers. another attacker caught on camera running a car in to a bus stop and got out of the car and stabbed bystanders. the attacks are the latest in a month long wave of violence in that area. as we continue with eyewitness news at 6:00, a man charged in the beating death of a toddler faces a judge today. disturbing and heartbreaking details about the child's injury. >> an out of control dump truck crashes in to a dry cleaner's on long island. >> the clouds are rolling in. a couple showers as well. still comfortable, about 69 degrees. the radar in

calling him a monster. that is a direct quote. after revealing a long list of injuries that he was killed at the boyfriend's home in uniondale. here's sager. >> reporter: 26-year-old lord pardo said nothing to reporters as he headed to court today but a judge set his bail at $10 million, and authorities were quick to share their assessment. >> it's clear the defendant has no soul. he is truly a monster. because the autopsy report in this case is so disturbing. prosecutors say pardo murdered his girlfriend's 17-month old baby, mason robinson, while babysitting here at his house in union dale on sunday. the baby's marie, was working here at whole foods in jericho. according to the autopsy, little mason had fractured ribs and a fractured skull, a lacerated liver and diaphragm and massive internal bleeding.

paypal is giving its u.s. customers a holiday gift. the company is sure they will love it. paypal says it will help pay the return shipping costs, up to $30 for its customers. there's a catch, however. paypal will only cover up to four returns through january 31st of next year. the company offered a similar service in nearly 40 other countries before rolling it out here in the u.s.

there's a shower threat through the early evening then partial cooling. a little on the cool side. 40s north and west. breeze picks up during the day tomorrow and more clouds mix with sun tomorrow. overall a partly sunny day. while we've had a break in the showers and now they're playering -- flaring up over the front. they seem to be weakening as they get in new jersey. as they hold together there are about 60 miles. this from citifield and on that track. moving around 35 miles per hour. you're talking about 7:30 to 8:30, they're right in there if they could hold together. if you look at the futurecast, widely scattered showers, 8:00. things will move through with a quiet radar. this is a close-up futurecast on citifield again insisting on that one heavier shower, not far from flushing. i'd say it's about a 30% shot of seeing that shower hold together. 66 degrees. at worst a minor interruption then the game would go on.
