a scramble for safety when a car slams in to a restaurant packed with mets fans. tonight witnesses tell us why it could have been so much worse. good evening at 11:00. i'm liz cho. sade is off tonight. >> i'm bill ritter.

three stories break ing right now. first that car slamming in to a restaurant in rockville centre on long island. josh einiger with breaking details. >> let me show you right now. a car came barreling in to monahan's restaurant at the height of the dinnertime rush. people who might otherwise be hanging out by the window instead crowded around tvs inside the restaurant watching the mets and none of them were hurt. >> reporter: it happened in the blink of an eye, this red sedan buried itself deep in the front of monahan's, an irish pub loaded with mets fans watching owner niall gunn watched it all happen in front of him. >> he hit the gas. crazy. >> it sounded like a huge thunder, like a huge clap of thunder.

in his 50s, mistaken the gas for the brake and plowed in front of the bar. amazingly no one was sitting at the window at the time. >> his car seemed pretty good when it got pulled out, very little damage to it. by the luck of the irish, i don't know. tough day at the office here. >> in fact a pretty lucky day after all because no one inside this restaurant suffered even a scratch and the driver of the car had only minor injuries. you can follow the tire tracks back here to the street. it's not entirely clear what the driver was trying to do when he lost control. police here in rockville centre trying to get to the bottom of that. driver released here at the scene. live in rockville centre, josh einiger, channel 7 eyewitness news. other breaking news story, former basketball player lamar odom tonight reportedly fighting for his life after he was found

odom at the love ranch found by two workers, taken to a local hospital. they tried to airlift him to a hospital but he was too tall so they took an ambulance. the mets in their game against l.a. at citifield tonight, the mets lost. just minutes ago, 3-1. series tied at 2-2 i we're heading back to l.a. rob powers here with all the highlights. >> the champagne was on ice and soon it will be on a plane. no celebration for the mets tonight at home. if they're going to beat the dodgers in this playoff series they're going to do it in los angeles. mets missed out on the chance to advance at home tonight. they ran in to a buzzsaw named clayton kershaw. rookie steven matz, the kid from long island, pitching for the mets started out well. mom and dad proud as heck in the stands. but the dodgers get to him here in the 3rd inning. the one-time met justin turner with runners on 1st and 2nd in to the left field corner. both runners came home.

two other young women were wounded. eyewitness news reporter jim dolan is at the police precinct with more. >> police say 26-year-old dalone jamison killed ms. faussett. you'll see him in just a moment. we spoke with her father at his home in the bronx tonight. drained and devastated and trying hard to cope with this sudden and wrenching loss. >> reporter: police are right, dalone jamison started shooting outside a nightclub early monday morning. it's not clear who he intended to shoot. but police say he did kill 24-year-old walikque faussett and left a hole in the hearts of her family that cannot be filled. >> i'm just trying to be strong. i have to be strong for them. i have my moments. i've got to hold everybody together. >> reporter: it is so hard to do. two other women were injured in the gunfire that morning. they will recover. walikque's family is left only

with her memory now. >> she was a sweet girl. she was everything you could ask for in a daughter. she was very independent. great mom. just overall good person. everybody would say the same thing. >> reporter: as for the alleged gunman, the man police and witnesses say killed his daughter, mr. faussett could barely conceal his contempt. >> he was in a gang, wanna-be rapper. that's basically it. >> mr. jamison claims he is innocent but several witnesses do identify him as the gunman. no gun has yet been found. reporting live from the 13 precinct, jim dolan, channel 7 eyewitness news. we have new details about the murder of a taxi driver in newark. tonight police have made an arrest. a 14-year-old boy.

an explosive plane crash at a mobile home park tonight and at this hour it's unclear how many people have been killed or hurt. a small plane went down in palm beach county, florida. the faa says the plane exploded

after hitting several trailers. cause of the crash is still under investigation. dutch investigators confirmed today a russian made missile is likely what brought down malaysia airlines flight 17 in ukraine last year. the dutch safety board released an animation of what they believed happened. investigators say the muscle detonated outside the left-hand side of the cockpit and shrapnel caused the nose to break off. 298 people onboard died. investigators are trying to understand why the plane was flying over a conflict area. >> the answer is as straightforward as it is disquieting. almost all operators were flying over that area. and why? because nobody thought aviation was at risk. >> russia disagreed with the report calling it biased and said the missile came from the ukraine.

after he hugged her at his 8th birthday party and she broke her wrist. her nephew jumped to greet her. she claims she fell and broke her wrist. connell who lives on the upper east side of manhattan claims she has huge medical bills and still has pain, so she sued her nephew for $127,000, saying her 8-year-old relative should have known he could have hurt her when he hugged her. jury took less than 30 minutes to disagree. grammy award singer alicia keys will be among the tens of thousands of athletes running in the new york city marathon. keys is running to raise money for her charity, keep a child alive, offering care and support to children affected by hiv. the new york city marathon sunday, november 1st, and will air live right here on channel 7. >> good for her. >> maybe she'll be singing as you're running by too, you know? >> we'll be right there.
