shirleen allicot on the scene shirleen? >> reporter: that is a question that probably won't be answered for several days, bill. i can tell you 17th street between 7th and 8th avenue is still closed to traffic. have been allowed back in. i will move out of the way. you can see the scene is still very active. officials at this point believe that the building will not collapse. they can't be certain yet that smolder. firefighters need to get that out first. it's a job that likely will continue through the night. flames ripping april apartment 218 this morning. >> for me the scariest part was waking up to the entire street, flames out the windows and you saw it escalate. >> a blazing fire. i watched it for 2 1/2 hours

then went back to bed and five minutes later police were ringing the bell to evacuate us. >> reporter: this cell phone video was taken by people at a nearby cafeteria restaurant. >> as a result, we sue the street pitch black and within five minutes, the flames started coming out and within 10 the flames are two stories high. >> reporter: the unoccupied building was set to be transformed into multimillion dollar condos. the fire department says the renovation project helped feed the flames. >> the sprinkler system was removed. there were numerous holes in the floors. they were putting in a center shaft, elevators. usually you have construction materials throughout. >> to be that close to that many flames and the intensity. you could see the smoke getting sucked back into the building. >> reporter: the office of emergency management tells me they will be back and reassess

the building's integrity in the morning. no injuries reported. that includes the watchman who was inside the building at the time. we will keep you updated. shirleen allicot, channel 7 eyewitness news. >> shirleen, thank you. we are learning new information about a breaking story in the bronx. three people are injured in a serious crash involving an s.u.v. this happened at 167th street in the morrisania section. one woman, a pedestrian, is in critical condition at this hour. the two other people including the driver are in manage serious condition. a police pursuit in suffolk county came to a dramatic end with a wrong way crash killing a suspect on the run and an innocent driver. police say the female suspect was driving westbound in the eastbound lanes of the northern state parkway in dix hills around 2:40 this morning. officers tried pulling her over for allegedly driving drunk and in a stolen vehicle but she refused to stop.

here is marcus solis. >> reporter: a site that is too familiar, the fourth bomb threat this month. emergency response followed byner vows parents racing to check on their children. >> it has to be a sick person, somebody that has nothing better to do with their lives. >> not just what goes through my mind but his mind as well. he is wondering why are we having so many lock downs. i don't know what to say to that. >> reporter: the school went into lock down. police determined the children, kindergarten through 5th grade were safe but for little ones sitting quiet for an hour unable to talk, go to lunch or use the bathroom. >> our heads are going through what is going on, who will help us. >> my daughter tells me she is locked in a room not being able to eat or use the bathrooms, both of my daughters, that upsets me.

we have some surveillance video to show you before the point of impact where there was so many children in the area and certainly the injury toll could have been higher. we understand a female pedestrian was struck by a black s.u.v. this afternoon around 4:00. she was taken to albert einstein hospital in critical condition. the driver of the s.u.v. was also taken to the hospital, to lincoln hospital in serious but stable condition. a third person was also taken to the hospital. all this happened around 4:00 this afternoon. our news copter was overhead at the time. now we are learning that the third person has now -- one driver has now been arrested. police believe he tried to flee the scene, not the driver of the black s.u.v. which struck the woman but the driver of yet another vehicle. obviously investigators are trying to sort all of this out. we do have a female pedestrian in the hospital in critical condition. live in the bronx, lucy yang
