friday, billy joel. speaking of singing, the metropolitan opera conducted by mr. met who is under orders never to speak. both teams hungry. the last time the royals won the world series, 1985. >> rob powers and marcus solis are in kansas city where it's been raining for most of the day. heavy rain here tomorrow we'll begin this afternoon with rob. >> a couple developments since we saw you on eyewitness news at 5:00. it's still raining but not nearly as hard. there's been movement on the grounds crew and the mets themselves have come out. they're warming up in the outfield right now. they'll do what they have done, most of the pregame work inside. the mets and royals get ready for game 1 but job 1 is to dry things out and get this game started. the tarp has been on the field for much of the day. they have blowers out here underneath the tarp. they'll be fine playing through drizzle.

terry his guys would be fine to start. the problem for matt harvey would be a rain delay during the game. >> matt will be fine pitching early. supposed to stop in the middle of the game sometime, but if it doesn't, and we get some heavy rain or something has to stop the game, that would be a situation both teams would have a tough time in. >> then again, that's why colon and niese have been moved to the bullpen. the other people who will be apart of this game 1 tonight, marcus solis outside the stadium with more on the fans. marcus. >> as a mets fan, i know how it is when the team gets good. lots of people jump on the bandwagon but the fans who traveled to kansas city, you know their true blue and orange. perhaps no better example than that than this family. >> the it dark knight shall conquer all. >> reporter: of all the mets

fans in kansas city, john might be the most passionate. he literally wears his mets pride on his sleeve, orange and blue inked in to his arm. >> there's something magical about this team just like '69 and '86. we're going to come through. >> reporter: lo knrks -- logi is from staten island and will be working. he flew his nephew and sister to kansas city. the real highlight of the trip, going to game 1 with his family. >> a year and a half ago my father had triple bypass surgery. he was a diehard fan. they left. it earned me in to a met fan and this is something i wanted to do from him so i flew him up from tampa and we're going to the game. >> it could be a little rough especially at home with some of the yankee fans could be rough but we're winners all around. >> reporter: met fans have traveled in to enemy territory.

question, could it delay tonight's start? we're also seeing a good deal of rain here tomorrow. meteorologist lee goldberg is timing it all out. he's over at the weather center with more. >> i like what i see in rob's shot it all, even the visibility from the 3rd base line to right field looks better. rainfall in kansas city has been fairly light. the field isn't soaked. a little slip pery and of course they've had the tarp on the infield. the steadiest rain we saw at 4:00 and 5:00, shifting off to the north and east. hasn't rained much on the west side of town. seems to be weakening. futurecast also showing yes, showers in the area around first pitch but the heaviest definitely shifting east so at worst it's a short delay off the top. probably an on-time start and 54 degrees. this is the western edge of the big rain that's heading our way. rain is trying to come up the coast right now. still a good 12 hours away from the tri-state area. around daybreak in new york city, a little earlier south and west. easily going to be an inch of rain around the area.

could even top two inches, especially north and west. the worst of this is going to be tomorrow afternoon into tomorrow evening. coastal flooding, minor during the times of high tide there's an advisory. rain arrives around dawn. heaviest from afternoon to the first part of tomorrow night and there will be ponding and flooding on area roadways for the evening commute especially. we'll have more on this, the halloween and marathon forecast a little later on. back to you for now. we're going to turn now to the other news of the night. we'll begin tonight with officer holder and a grand jury this afternoon indicted the suspect of the murd er of nypd officer randolph holder. tyrone howard was formally indicted on first degree murder and robbery charges for the shooting death of officer holder last tuesday in east harlem. eyewitness news as learned the gun used in the shooting was trace today a gun shop in south carolina where it was legally sold back in 2008. it has not been linked to any other shooting. meanwhile the final

farewell for the 33-year-old officer holder now underway. the wake for the third generation cop ending in jamaica, queens. thousands officers showing up from around the country. they're still there tonight. a police honor guard earlier today escorting holder's coffin to the greater allen a.m.e. cathedral. we're getting word reverend al sharpton invited to give the eulogy tomorrow, has now backed out, fearing his presence might distract from the family's mourning. political reporter david evans. >> it was indeed a bit of a surprise that the family and pastor asked reverend sharpton to give the eulogy but a lot of people objected so he's backed out. he said to me today he wants to keep the focus on the family and their grief. i spoke with him here in midtown late this afternoon. >> i withdrew because i felt that the attention must be on

officer holder and the fact that the city's lost a police officer >> reporter: al sharpton confirmed he won't be speaking at the funeral. some feared it would turn in to what happened to the mayor last year when officers turned their backs on him. >> there are those that want to make this about them and i'm going to engage in that. >> reporter: police officials declined to say much when they heard sharpton backed out. but the head of the detective's union was happy to weigh in on sharpton. >> probably uncomfortable for him to walk in to a church full of cops just the way it would be uncomfortable for the devil to walk in to heaven. >> you're comparing sharpton to the devil? >> he's been a police basher all his life. >> reporter: sharpton today noted he's spoken to police graduating classes in the past and in a letter, he writes i've

never been and never has national action network been anti-police. sharpton said he had hoped for a new spirit at tomorrow's funeral but now he says that won't happen. >> i was going at the invitation of the father and the pastor. i would think maybe people respect the fact they wanted to set a spirit of unity. >> i asked reverend sharpton whether he'd still be attending the service even though he won't be giving the eulogy. he said absolutely not. he wants the focus to be on the family and their grief. but he said he and national action network would be donating $5,000 to help with the cost of the funeral. dave evans, channel 7 eyewitness news. >> eyewitness news is going to bring you coverage on tv and online, the funeral service for officer holder tomorrow afternoon. funeral scheduled to start at 3:00, it will be anchored by liz and david novarro.

he's under federal investigation but tonight the chief of the suffolk county police department insists that has nothing to do with the sudden resignation. >> chief james burke said he resigned for personal and family specific. he didn't announce it. >> latest. >> shortly after that we heard from the suffolk county police commissioner that indeed chief james burke is stepping down and will officially step down within the next 15 days. burke is under investigation by the feds for an incident that happened several years ago when a man stole burke's gun belt and ammunition from burke's department issued vehicle which was parked in burke's driveway. that man alleged he was arrested and beaten by burke and several other officers while he was detained. federal investigators have been looking in to those claims.

burke has been with the suffolk county police department for the past 30-plus years and has always said he did absolutely nothing wrong in that case. his attorney says he's stepping down, has nothing to do with this federal investigation, but has everything to do with personal and family reasons. could the commissioner of the department, edward weber, released this statement to eyewitness news a short time ago saying chief burke is one of the most outstanding supervisors, investigators, and trainers in the history of the suffolk county police department. i thank him for his many years of dedicated service to the people of suffolk county. the commissioner said that the chief of support services, stuart cameron, will serve acting police chief. kristin thorne, channel 7 eyewitness news. now to the race for president. tonight donald trump has lost his bragging rights as the gop frontrunner. in a new york times cbs poll, ben carson is now on top with 26%. trump's

new jersey by 7:00 in the morning closing in on new york city. wind gusts along the coast could be near 40 miles per hour. wind driven rain, lots of leaves blowing around and storm drains could be clogged and slippery on area roads. clouds thinning to the north. we have a fair amount of dry air in place. this will happen in about 12 hours or so. checking in on the kansas city radar, that's right where kauffman stadium is right here. light drizzle. looks like they'll have a good shot at starting on time. big system right here. there's the low. lots of gulf moisture and atlantic moisture. remnants of hurricane patricia. starts at daybreak tomorrow then as we go through the afternoon, gets heavier especially north and west. heaviest may be in to tomorrow evening. leftover shower early thursday and the afternoon looks great. we could push 2, 2 and a half inches north and west. likely to be localized street flooding. plenty of clouds overnight becoming breezy. late rain south and west of new york city.
