a boeing 777 spotting the drone as he came in for a landing. eyewitness news reporter josh einiger at the airport with the developing story. >> even if you have a permit to fly, the federal government prohibits you from flying it over 400 feet off the ground. in this case the altitude was 2,000 feet and smack in the middle of one of the busiest flight paths. >> reporter: the boeing jet came way too close to someone's flying toy. if you listen to the fast talking jargon of air traffic control, you'll hear the crew of british airways 177 from london operating with the handle speed bird telling them about a strange sighting over floral park, long island. >> about 300 feet above us i'm pretty sure it was a drone. >> okay, thank you. >> a very strange looking balloon. >> reporter: the faa says this

was no balloon, hovering between 1800 and 2200 feet above the ground. the unmanned drone was flying above approaching jet liners. >> 177, do you have any other description other than what it could possibly be, like a color, direction of flight or anything else? >> it was going roughly toward the west and it was about i would say -- difficult to tell the size of the thing but about 300 feet above us and was black and looked like one of those on each corner. >> reporter: in the past year the faa says pilots have reported more than three dozen drone sightings in the air space just near jfk. last weekend american eagle crew reported seeing an unmanned aircraft while on approach to laguardia. controllers dispatched an nypd helicopter to investigate as they urged other pilots to keep an eye out. >> no other pilots reported

ba177 landed without dein. -- without incident. the nassau county police taken over the investigation. if they find the person responsible for the drone he or she could face a fine of thousands of dollars. a fuel leak the suspected cause tonight. the dynamic airways plight was preparing to take off from fort lauderdale when an engine caught fire. the pilot in another lane alerted them of the fire. passengers were forced to jump down emergency chutes to escape the flames. >> i heard a loud bang, turned around, saw the lights, saw flames, ran to the front of the aircraft. he opened the door, let the chute out, the chute opened to the sides where the flames were. >> one person suffered serious burns. investigators are now

new video tonight of the chaos during a deadly biker gang shootout. a fight in then a shootout erupts just off camera between a group of motorcycle clubs. panic suddenly erupts. the video shows some motorcyclists duck for cover while others pull out guns. nine people were killed. tonight investigators are trying to figure out who leaked the video. in tonight's health alert, the age old tradition of singing nursery rhymes to calm a crying baby. researchers at the university of montreal found babies stay calm twice as long when they listen to a song as they do listening to speaking. previous studies found singing can calm and relieve pain by

football this weekend, giants at new orleans. jason pierre paul won't play in that game but he might travel to that game. lost a finger in a fireworks accident. suffered other injuries as well. he's back in the fold now. showed up in shape. signed a contract. he did run plays with the scout team in practice. now pierre-paul tries to get in football shape. the jets in oakland sunday. nick mangold said he intends to play even though he missed practice today with a sore neck. he was injured last sunday. said it was a scary time. only missed three games in 10 years because of injury. and right now he says he feels, quote, peachy. good hockey game in brooklyn tonight. islanders won six of their last seven against the hurricanes. you won't see many goals prettier than this. fourth of the year. one more look here. but the game goes to overtime and carolina finishes. the isles lose at home 3-2 in o.t.
