>> if you recognize any of the men in that surveillance video, police from the 67th precinct would like you to call them. shirleen allicot, channel 7 eyewitness news. and developing news out of brooklyn where firefighters are on the scene of an apartment fire. we're told it started at around 3:30 on the top floor of an apartment building in park slope. fire officials say the flames were contained to one apartment. the fire is now out. one resident suffered minor injuries. no firefighters were hurt. the cause of the fire is still under investigation. we've just released new and exclusive video from the seconds a driver lost control slamming on to a bronx sidewalk killing three people who were trick or treating. police are looking in to the medical history of the man and whether he had a seizure. eyewitness news reporter darla miles is in the bronx with the latest on the investigation. >> a priest showed up here at the crash site early this morning to bless it. it's where three people died.

during a gas leak in mt. olive, new jersey are back open. police, firefighters, and the gas company responded to the scene on wolf road. a middle school and daycare were evacuated and the children sent home. no one was injured. police have identified a construction worker who was killed last week in a building collapse in midtown. pedro basilio was working on a demolition crumbled. his body was found in the basement. another worker was trapped in the debris for three hours. two people were hurt this morning when a piece of a ceiling fell at a construction site on the upper west site. the closed prep school on west end avenue is undergoing both people are expected to be okay. new details. a connecticut woman is denying helping her boyfriend kill his parents. jennifer valiante made her first today. she was charged with conspiracy to commit murder and

navin. the bodies were found buried in the backyard of a vacant home in westin last week. sheldon silver back in court as jury selection got underway in his corruption trial. the 71-year-old is accused of accepting nearly $4 million in pay-offs and kickbacks. he tells us he's vindicated. his lawyers claim prosecutors are unfairly going after silver for practices that have long been sanctioned in albany. if convicted he faces 130 years in prison. president obama is in new jersey pushing his plan for overhauling the political justice system. political reporter dave evans is here with more on the president's visit. >> the president is squeeding a -- squeezing a lot in to today's visit. a major push to help about a half million former inmates re-enter society. in his second turn the president is focused on breaking the cycle of incarceration, helping former

bodies begin arriving in russia and devastated families start the heartbreaking task of identifying their loved ones, new pictures of the victims including more than a dozen children are now on display at a growing memorial at the airport where the doomed flight was supposed to land. what went wrong according to airline officials, pilots lost control because of an external mechanical impact insisting there was nothing wrong with the plane. an isis linked group has claimed responsibility but u.s. intelligence officials say right now it's too soon to rule out a cause. >> does isis have the ability to shoot down an airliner? >> it's unlikely but i wouldn't rule it out. >> reporter: it was early saturday morning, the flight left the resort city of sharmel sheik. there were no obvious signs or distress calls before it crashed, killing all 224 passengers and crew onboard. investigators quickly recovered

armed with a rifle first shot a bicyclist then shot and killed two women as they sat on a porch saturday. he may have lived in the neighborhood. officers tracked the man down to a parking lot, killing him in a gun battle. new details about pope francis's visit to mexico next year. the pope will arrive in mexico city in february. he will reportedly stay in the country for about a week. most people there, as you may know, are roman catholic. during the visit pope francis is expected to address the violence in mexico along with immigration. and beginning today the main entrance to the south ferry white hall street subway station will be closed for the next nine months. it's another phase in project. the storm flooded the station with 15 million gallons of salt water. now water tight doors and other features are being installed. we're getting a better look at the devastation in texas from those deadly storms. at least six people were killed when

slammed the gulf coast over the weekend. aerial video shows homes in houston with roofs ripped off, piles of debris and yards. the houston area was hit with more than a foot of rain in just 24 hours. one family caught a tornado on their home security camera. fortunately their house was not destroyed. from one weather extreme to another. parts of oregon hit by their first accumulating snowfall. this is a welcome sight for skiers who say last season was rather disappointing. a couple inches of fresh snow has fallen at timberline lodge ski resort and mt. hood. they expect to get another couple inches today. >> we don't even need to wear a coat outside. >> no, not at all. they're going to do well in the cascades and rockies this year because there's going to be a lot of weather systems. the question is will we be cold enough for a

lot of snow. meanwhile a spectacular sunset, our first one here in the work week on standard time. a lot of activity on the waters. i assume that's because of the presidential visit. then you can see -- thank you very much. we have at least some partial sunshine to end the day in some spots and the trend will be to clear out tonight. the high today, 63 degrees. running 5 degrees above average, that's nothing. we'll be 10 to 15 degrees above average the rest of the week. last year in the state it was awful chilly at 48 degrees. this november off to a much warmer start and through the first week here compared to last year, we had a couple days in the 60s but this week we're going to have maybe four days in and around 70 degrees, maybe even record warmth as we go toward friday. there's a cool-down coming up this weekend. yonkers is coming westchester county and

new at 5:00, a church pastor in new jersey accused of lying about being attacked in his own church. >> police say jairon pena's hands were loosely bound and there was a bag over his head. the big question tonight, why would he make this all up? tonight. >> this is exactly the question investigators are now trying to answer. they say this pastor didn't have the injuries to match the story, a story they say changed multiple times. >> reporter: investigators say 36-year-old jairon pena made up a story about being physically attacked at the church where he's the pastor. now he's charged with staging a fictitious assault. >> he has a lost congregation. they're devoted people here. >> reporter: police responded to a 911 call at new covenant

missionary baptist church. that's where they say they found pena, his hands loosely tied behind his back with a rope, legs tied, and a cloth stuffed in his mouth. he also had a plastic bag over his head and taped to his head a misspelled islamic phrase. travis harris works nearby. >> a lot of undercover cop cars coming. seven, eight cars out here. they all went in to the church. 20 minutes later i see a person being wheeled out in a stretcher and being put in to an ambulance. >> reporter: investigators say pena told them he went to the front door of the church when he heard loud bang ing. that's when he said two men and a woman assaulted him. he said it didn't stop there. he told police they threw bibles from the pews, stomping on them while ridiculing his religion. >> i just hope everybody is okay. >> investigators say the pastor

a tiger at a nebraska zoo did not take too kindly to a drunk woman who tried to break in to its cage. the tiger bit the 33-year-old who police say was trying to pet the big cat. they say she was drunk when she broke in to the only ha zoo early sunday morning. hospital workers called police when the woman arrived in the e.r. with a severe hand injury. she's being charged with trespassing. australia is getting rid of the honorary titles of knight and dame. the honors granted for public service were first discarded in 1986 as outdated but revived by the predecessor. existing knights and dames will retain their titles. it's been a warm start to the month. we've got meteorologist lee goldberg showing us how the temperatures will be this week. >> what led some parents on

starts right now. a dramatic development tonight in the death of a woman on the upper west side of manhattan nearly six years ago. police at first thought it was a slip and fall accident. now her husband is charged with murder. >> but first, new video of a car before it went out of control and plowed in to a group of trick or treaters and killed three people. good evening at 6:00. i'm liz cho. >> i'm bill ritter. investigators right now trying to find out if some kind of medical event or condition of the driver caused this horrific crash. >> this is exclusive video of a 3-year-old girl who was injured but survived the accident. her 10-year-old sister and two adults were killed.
