hours after the crime took place. we understand the young victim is now back at home recovering from a gun wound to the front of her head below her hairline. she's lucky to be alive. this is following the pursuit of a 19-year-old suspect that police say began shooting as an asbury park police officer. the suspect has been identified by friends as dante allen. he was approached by the officer and while the cop was doing a body search he felt a gun apparently around dante's waistband. it appears dante took out and a foot chase began. shots were fired and one went into the house where her little girl was watching television. her mother came out screaming her daughter was shot. the girl was grazed and allen was hit in the girl. authorities aren't sure if the bullet that hit the

little girl was fired by dante or the police officer. >> i know for the fact that he didn't shoot at no cop. i talked to him 10, 15 minutes before this happened. i know he didn't go outside and say i'm going to go shoot a cop. >> reporter: we understand from authorities that a gun has been recovered out here at the scene. at this point in time allen is recovering at the jerry shore medical center. we understand his mother is still trying to get into the room to talk to him about this incident. anthony johnson, channel 7, eyewitness news. >> thank you, anthony. new at noon, police are investigating a deadly pedestrian accident in the bronx. a commercial truck struck a 55-year-old woman as she was crossing the street at 8:30. the woman was pronounced dead at the hospital. her identity has not been released yet. the driver remained at the scene and so far no charges have been filed. also new at noon, a large

the officers feeling insulted by the latest contract offer on the table. >> [screaming] >> screaming our lives matter hundreds of officers gathered in front of the upper east side home of lead arbitrator who decided to give only a 1% pay increase in the next 2 years. officers are frustrated by the proposal feeling it lacks understanding of what officers risk and sacrifice every day. >> since this contract expired we lost seven new york police officers. this arbitrator says those lives are only worth 1%. >> during the held out signs pointing out that some fast food workers will have their pay raised by 15% while they are only being offered 1%. chilling. now to a deadly plane crash in queens. crews recovered the body of a man believed to be the pilot of a small plane that went down in the water off breezy point.

are trying to figure out what went wrong. eyewitness news reporter drake clark is live from the scene there. drake. >> reporter: good afternoon . behind me you can see the nypd's mobile command unit. the search is happening three-quarters of a mile behind us where there's more emergency vehicles. dense fog moved in and that produced poor visibility forcing the nypd to suspend their search until this morning. >> in the water, along the air and from the shore the nypd resumed the search for the single-engine airplane that crashed into the atlantic wednesday night off the coast of breezy points, queens. >> he was really low. you usually don't fly that low and go straight along the ocean. >> john norton said he was on the beach with friends when they noticed the plane's low altitude. other people reported hearing something strange in the air.

>> it sounded like in distress. sort of a rumble ing ing. -- rumbling. we didn't know what it was. >> the plane went down just before 8:00 wednesday night. the nypd launched a massive search and rescue effort. an hour later the aircraft's tail was located and eventually a body recovered. the pilot, believed to be the only person on board, the two seater plane. >> very sad. >> it's believe ed -- believed the pilot was headed back to new hampshire where the plane was registered. several flight tracking programs indicate the plane made a sudden drop in speed and altitude before it disappeared into the water. >> reporter: among the items recovered so far from the water, a from the aircraft. the name of

train tuesday afternoon. police say stanley gary slashed the men with a box cutter and ran off the train at the ralph avenue station in bedford. he was arrested and charged with felony assault. the other victim was treated and released from the hospital. a popular pastor found dead in his church in new jersey will be remembered at a viewing today. reverend ron christian will lie in state at his christian love baptist church. his funeral will be this saturday. christian said he was called to the pulpit after spending time in prison and a battle with heroin addiction. the cause of his death won't be known for several months. a boy missing for 13 years, how did he finally manage to solve his own kidnapping mystery. >> out of control. how did cars end up stacked up like toys in brooklyn. >> what did his camels do to earn a special blessing.

un day de a boy missing for 13 years has finally been reunited with his mother. julian hernandez was just 5 years old when he vanished from his mother's home in alabama in 2002. she had rights to the child at the time. within a decade later he was applying for college and he learned his name and social security did not match. after research he learned he had been abducted. that's how he found

the fbi received a tip that julian and his biological father, bobby hernandez, were in the cleveland area. >> he said he was from alabama but it's about all i know. i knew he was in the navy. that's what he told me. i never got into his personal life. you know what i mean? >> the biological dad, bobby hernandez, is now facing abduction charges in alabama and tampering with records. a construction worker is being hailed a hero for stopping a college student in california he burst into a classroom at the university of california and stabbed a staff member and students. he fled and was shot and killed by campus police. all four stabbing victims are expected to survive.

held over night for a high school football player in kansas who died after collapsing during a game. luke shem fell down after scoring his fourth touchdown of the game. a medical examiner will determine how he lied. he's the 11th high school football player to die this year. george h.w. bush will publish a new biography next week. it blasts key figures including vice president bill chaney saying he built his own empire in the administration and ronald rumsfeld who said he was arrogant. workers digging under washington square park uncovered a piece of new york city history, a burial vault that likely dates back to the 1800s. it contains the remains of around a dozen people.

haze into the afternoon. the sunsets at 12 minutes before 5:00. dense fog means delays at airports. it's still mild despite more clouds. low clouds and drizzle tomorrow morning. we could have a little sprinkle this afternoon and tonight. a cooler breeze will be coming in for saturday. we'll have seasonal temperatures on sunday. a cold front will go by friday night. 65 white stone queens, 70 belmar, 70 wrightstown. that's where the sun is out right now. a passing sprinkle came through the five boroughs. fairfield county, north shore, long island, the l.i.e out towards smith town some sprinkles. a few showers tonight and then cloudy, warm and 63 is the over night low. normal over night low is 45. then tomorrow it's sunny and warm. record high is 74, we'll break that heading to 75.

arriving early and taking all the seats then one man tried to rush down chambers and drag down the city manager who tried to stop him. police threw him to the floor. he was arrested. a police officer in california is in hot water for punching a man. officer nicholas nunez was rushing into he bumps into a man's wife and he tapped the police on the shoulder and he punched him in the face. finally, a burglar in florida miscalculated where the stash was and came crashing through a packed restaurant. this surveillance video shows the moment it happened here at the habachi grill. he was

our top stories this afternoon, a young girl caught in a cross fire during a police shoot out in new jersey. doctors say the 9-year-old will be okay after she was grazed by a stray budget in asbury park. officers were chasing a teenager at the time. he was shot in the leg. investigators are trying to figure out how a small plane crashed off the coast of queens last night. rescue crews recovered a man's body who is believed to be the pilot. russian officials questioning the police by u.s. and british officials that terrorism may have been a factor

the u.s. secretary of defense agreed with u.k. officials that the plane was more likely than not downed by a bomb. we begin with new details about a wild crash involving at least a half dozen vehicles in brooklyn. >> this happened over night in coney island. a large truck slammed into a row of cars and then drove off. the impact sending an suv right on top of eyewitness scene with details. >> reporter: take a look at this school crossing sign. that out of control truck not only knocked that sign down it ripped off the sidewalk beneath it. neighbors said it woke them up from their sleep but said the truck was already more than a block down the street. like a bomb. it was it started from there all the way across. it got seven cars.

avenue said it woke them up from their sleep. police say it was around 2:30 in the morning when an out of control truck slammed into multiple park cars by avenue r in brooklyn before taking off. this cell phone video and pictures showing how the impact pushed an suv on top of another parked car. >> neighbors say they still can't believe what happened. >> it was crazy. it was like a movie. i didn't think it was real. i still think it's a movie. is it a movie? >> witnesses say they think it was a red truck responsible for the over night mayhem. there are red streak marks smeared into damaged cars. local merchants said the owner of this mangled suv was on his way to work this morning when he was greeted by this, shocked by what he saw. >> he was just upset. it's very upsets to see -- upsetting to see your property demolished. >> others say they're more concerned for people's safety. based on the destruction this speeding truck left behind if it struck a person the result would

and if they were involved in the fraud and/or suicide. carla baradara, channel 7, eyewitness news. investigators are planning to meet with the city marshalls who opened fire on a car in louisiana killing a 6-year-old boy. the marshalls were attempting to serve a warrant to the boy's warrant on tuesday night. chris fugh drove off and officers chased him. when he got to a dead end he backed up at the they began shooting hitting his son in the head and chest. new claims reveal a positive sign for police and community relations in new york city. controller scott springer said the personal injury claims against the nypd have declined sharply. a new report released today shows that the claims against the police have fallen nearly 13% during the past year. stringer praised the department's training programs and a culture of restraint for officers now. police in queens trying to find three masked robbers who

springfield high schoolteacher who did the same for her 2 years ago. she was liveing -- living in a shelter and did not have day care for her child so her teacher allowed her to bring the baby to class. she posted a picture of her and the teacher at her graduation. >> congratulations to her. that's amazing. there's a photo of a police dog clinging onto an officer's leg that's going viral. you have to see this. this is why. take a look at that . this is nico as he holds on for dear life as his owner repels down the wall. people are amazed by he was safely fastened and not in danger. it was part of a necessary training session for vancouver police and they posted it on their facebook page. just so you know, nico was rewarded. he was given a lot of praise and a game of tug of war. >> he's like i know i'm safely attached but i'm not letting go. >> he was scared.
