and possession of stolen property. darla miles, end end. the pilot of the plane that crashed in queens last night has now been identified. according to his business partner the man is james brad mckey. he was traveling from a business trip in philadelphia to his home in new hampshire. he was the only person on the small plane when it went down near breezy point last month. the ntsb recovering most of the plane from the water and it's now investigating. new at 6:00, a luxury car theft ring that stole millions of dollars worth of cars as been taken down. the cars were stolen from different locations in the u.s. and about to be shipped to west africa. eyewitness news reporter m.j. burkett is in the saint george section of staten island with the story. >> reporter: at the interest of the kill van, one of the ships lanes, investigators say untold numbers of stolen cars are smuggled out of new york every year. while these latest arrests are intended to send a

>> this stolen after market mercedes cost $170,000. this custom range rover, $200,000. on the dusty streets of places like sierra leon they're worth double that to the drug lords and arms lords who see them as trophies. >> they took a hit after the indictment of seven people charged with stealing cars. some taken off streets, others stolen from rental companies using phony identification. >> investigators say all of them packed into shipping containers for a long trip across the atlantic aboard freighters from port newark decemberstined to west africa. >> you wouldn't know it from the outside but inside this container is a car. you have to

look carefully because the thieves don't make it easy. behind all of these boxes and bags of rice and the false wall in the back is a toyota rav 4. >> federal officials say the smugglers are very efficient. >> they would be sold to pro dominantly organized criminal organizations over there that had access to large amounts of cash to actually afford to purchase these vehicles. >> investigators say the ship captains often have no idea what's going on until agents open the containers or use x-ray machines to look inside. >> it's shaped like a vehicle then most likely it's a vehicle once we open that container. >> reporter: the cars worth an estimated $16 million. as we said a moment ago, seven suspects under indictment. this was a 19-month old investigation headed up by homeland security u.s. customs. burkett,

channel 7, eyewitness news. >> thank you. police tonight say surveillance video shows that a 20-year-old man started the shoot out with police that injured an 8-year-old girl last night. cops say an officer was frisking dante allen in asbury park when he began running and then shooting. the officer returned fire, a bullet went through into a house grazing a little girl's forehead. a 9 millimeter gun was found on allen's body. he's now facing attempted murder and weapons charges. new information about the suspect being charged with slashing two people on a subway train. stanley gray used three different names. he had at least 18 prior arrests for robbery, assault and fair beating but also a felony drug conviction. he's now accused of slashing two men with a box cutter on a c train on tuesday. new at 6:00, they are duty bound to keep the streets safe

but tonight many are wondering if new york cops will follow that mandate. they took to the streets to protest a 1% pay hike. that's about $10 a week. it was the police unix on that wanted arbitration and it was an ash ray to that decided this. bill evans is here to sort it out. >> reporter: the police union has done better by going to that outside arbitrator than what the city is offering. now a draft proposal by that outside arbitrator seems to be favoring the mayor and city hall and the police union not happy one bit. >> whose blood? >> our blood. >> this morning hundred s if not thousands of police officers protested outside the home of a arbitrator that will decide how much police should get paid. the early draft only 1%. cops are livid about that and marched with a coffin signifying the seven ature police

officers who died in -- seven police officers died in the line of duty. >> they offered 1% raises to new york city police officers after we buried seven new york city police officers. it's absolutely insulting. >> city hall offered police back in may 11% over 7 years, exactly what it gave to fire, sanitation and the sergeant union. police rejected that offer and went to an arbitrator. by law he can only settle things for 2 years. he's offering 1% for those years, similar to what other unions got. >> what i said all along is i believe the pattern that we set for our uniform services is fair and the vast majority of the union thought it was fair because they voted for it. >> police say they deserve much more and there are rumors of a work slow down like what we saw in december last year. for now police and their many supporters are focused on a contract earning more, certainly more than 1%.

in salary for our officers is outrageous and disgusting. >> reporter: today in puerto rico the mayor was asked about a police slow down. he said there's no proof of that. they said there's no such thing happening yet. bill and liz. >> thank you. president obama within the last hour weighing in for the first time on whether terrorism caused the crash of a russian plane in egypt. isis claimed responsibility for bringing down that plane. the president reiterating what his intelligence experts have been saying that while there was some chatter picked up among terrorists there's not enough hard evidence to say a terrorist explosive destroyed a plane in midair. senator charles schumer told me in an interview that signs do indeed point to terrorism. >> the signs are pointing more and more in the direction that it was a bomb. if it is a bomb of course the most likely

culprit is isis. both american intelligence and british intelligence are leaning in that direction. >> isil claims the plane was targeted in retaliation for russia's intervention in syria. an employee for jetblue is under arrest tonight for skipping the security check point at newark airport. authorities say baggage handler roberto rodriguez just finished his shift when he checked his own bags at the jetblue ticket counter. he did not go through security and used his employee entrance with his employee access card. tsa employees stopped him and his bags were pull from the plane. he's now charged with criminal trespass. a steady stream of mourners are filling into a church to say good-bye to reverend ron christian. he was found dead in

of seven parked cars on coney island in brooklyn that got banged up over night. this cell phone video and pictures showing his suv on top of another parked around. >> police say around 2:30 an out of control truck avenue r. the driver fled the scene. >> maybe he was drunk. i don't know. i don't have any words to say to him. >> this surveillance video showing the white tow truck carrying another vehicle slammed into the parks cars and then taking off. >> the impact so powerful it tore down this school crossing sign and ripped up the sidewalk. >> boom, real loud. like a bomb. it was like a movie. i didn't think it was real. i still think it's a movie. is it a movie? >> yotivich said it was a terrifying sound that woke her up. this is her red ford. you can see the mange led suv pinned next to her car. >> it sounded like a bomb went off. it was horrible.

down a mile and a half visibility at white plains. it's that lowering ceiling that could slow down airport departures. over night a light on shore wind. these are the numbers you'll watch tomorrow. you will clear out first. temperatures will be off to the races. upper 70s. we're forecasting 70 degrees for ing 80 degrees for philly tomorrow. north and east of new york city that clearing will be slow. it will be a mild day across the area. lots of clouds tonight, the occasional drizzle or spritz over night. it does look gloomy tomorrow morning so you won't think it will look like a sunny and warm afternoon. it will by lunchtime. in the afternoon temperatures will spike. we've had waves of drizzle that have move by. this is moving across the sound. this little drizzle on the merit 995 from stanford back to grannish bridge port.

this little area of rainfall is funneling in. i think that will tend to fall apart. the clouds will tend to break. that's ahead of a cold front that arriving tomorrow evening with a brief shower maybe around this time to 8:00 in the evening. that will take our 70s and move them back into the 50s and 60s over the weekend. some drizzle early on, clouds thin out during the day, we pop into the 70s. there's the shower that comes in during the early evening hours. record warmth tomorrow at 77 degrees. by saturday temperatures in the mid 60s. still not that cool but clouds linger south and east of new york city. tomorrow a pair of 7s. the record is 74. we will smash that. some rain returns to the area south and west later on. it will clear out on saturday north and west of new york city but it stays cloudy along the coast. 50s and 60s rather than 70s. warm again

because of tommy john's surgery. harvey won the national league comeback player oh of the year award. he went 2.74 e.r.a. he threw 216 innings, the most by a pitcher one year removed from tommy john's surgery. when the mets need him to make a pitch he did and he's a big reason the mets were in the world series. alex rodriguez up for the same award in the american league but prince fielder won it. his last season cut short because of surgery. he hit 23 homeruns and 98 rbi's. the ranger won the al west. >> the nets occur did granderson had surgery today to repair a torn ligament in his left thumb. he still had three
