18-year-old who was shot in the stomach being treated at a nearby hospital is expected to meanwhile police tonight are looking for a man they say is between 16 and 18 years old. we have asked where they think he might be. they know. scene though. a heavy police presence here. this is the block where that officer involved shooting took place. investigators trying to understand exactly what happened here. >> reporter: in this exclusive cell phone video obtained by eyewitness news you can hear a man screaming at officers moments after a detective fired his service weapon. the video of the scene on monroe street was shot from just a few feet away. brooklyn chief ofatives patrick connery says at 6:40 in the evening detectives were looking in to a robbery that had been reported earlier in the day. >> one of the detectives was

attempted to rob him at gunpoint. the detective fired one round from his service weapon striking an 18-year-old male, apprehended at the scene. >> reporter: surveillance video from a nearby store captured the it 18-year-old being taken away on a stretcher. investigators say a 16 -year-old was arrested and another man is on the run. >> i heard a gunshot like boom. like 30 seconds after that the captain was already here. >> reporter: investigators say this gun was found at the scene. >> it appears to be a semiautomatic firearm but we don't know right now if it's a real gun or a fake gun. that will be looked at by a laboratory. >> investigators initially said they were looking for someone between the ages of 16 and 18. we're now learning they believe they're looking for a man that is 20 years old. if you take a look out here you can see evidence markers, investigators at work. they also told us that

earlier today, they say they do nack believe that was connected to craigslist. they've not gone in to specifics. new at 11:00, firefighters successfully put out a multi-house fire in queens. they responded to a call at a house forest hills about 7:30 tonight. that fire quickly spread to houses on both side. that forced the fdny to send that call to three alarms. one of those homes was unoccupied. everybody did manage to get out of the other house. neighbors say they feared their homes were in danger. >> my house over here, luckily the debris was falling but the wind blew the other way. >> the fire chief is right now calling this fire suspicious because it was so large. he says he's not sure yet where or how it started. fire marshals

an afternoon playing with friends turns to tragedy for a family on long island. a pit bull suddenly malls a 9-year-old girl. the attack only stopped when police shot and killed the dog. the young girl did not survive. tonight friends remember her vibrant personality. eyewitness news reporter lucy yang is in valley street. >> it was quite an emotional scene here at the hospital tonight as family and friends left with the grim reality that doctors could not save their little girl. not after what she suffered in the jaws of a pit bull. >> she was an angel on earth. >> reporter: and that's how they will remember the precious 9-year-old girl who was mauled to death by a pit bull. >> i just wish i could turn the time back. i really do. she was too sweet to go. >> my granddaughter is 8 years old. please don't ask me no questions. she's been through enough.

>> reporter: three little girls including this one were playing in the backyard of this home when a pit bull attacked one of the young girls. witnesses say the dog latched on to her neck and head and shook her like a ragdoll. >> the woman in the house went outside and attempted to pull the pit bull off the girl but she could not do it. she called 911. >> reporter: by the time police arrived we're told two officers ran through the back while one went through the house to the rear. >> the pit bull was distracted, came charging at the officer. she discharged her weapon, fired. >> reporter: the victim was rushed to franklin hospital but surgeons could not mend what the dog had done. she was pronounced dead a few hours later. >> it's hard. it's hard. >> reporter: meanwhile the dog's owner, 29-year-old carlyle arnold was arrested at the scene on a separate charge of violating an order of protection. officials do not

believe he was home at the time of the attack. it's not clear if he could have pulled the dog off in time. >> we're still waiting for authorities to confirm the child's name and also for some sort of explanation as to why that dog turned so vicious. we're live in valley stream, lucy yang, channel 7 eyewitness news. an elderly woman is now the 11th pedestrian killed by a vehicle in new york city in a week. police say a cab struck 88-year-old louisa rosario as she crossed 109th street this morning. the driver was arrested on failure to yield charges. we'll hear from friends of rosario's who call her death a great loss for the community. a long island man remains behind bars tonight after police say he posed as a cab driver and attacked a woman. prosecutors

say 22-year-old adil raja pretended to be a car service driver and offered a woman a ride in patchogue about 4:00 yesterday morning. when the woman was inside the car raja apparently threatened her with a bb gun and sexually assaulted her. she got away and called police who arrested raja a short time later. now police are trying to determine if there are other victims. investigators of a deadly russian plane crash say the flight recorder captured a mysterious click seconds before the crash. exactly what that investigation. at this point u.s. officials say all signs investigators are now searching for evidence of an explosion at the crash site. all 224 people died when the jet went down while in route from a popular egyptian resort destination to moscow last weekend. tomorrow president obama will meet with israeli prime minister benjamin netanyahu at the white house. before decan

parting israel, netanyahu the trip will focus on security in israel and the conflict with the palestinians. the visit comes with controversy surrounding the spokesman. he's made facebook posts hinting that president obama is anti-semitic and that secretary of state john kerry should not be taken seriously. republican presidential candidate ben carson says he supports giving statehood to puerto rico. carson attended a rally with statehood supporters. he pledged to advocate for admission of puerto rico as the 51st state. he also spoke about recent questions about what he has written and said about his history. >> the burden of proof is not going to be on me to corroborate everything i've ever talked about in my life. once i start down that road every single day from now until the election you're going to be spending your time doing that.

police hope surveillance video will lead to the arrest of a man who robbed a business in the bronx using a machete. investigators say jose argillan was recorded walking behind the laundromat in hunts point. the suspect pried open a locked took off. injuries. the governing body of the university of missouri system will meet tomorrow morning to discuss the growing calls for down. and the meeting comes amid protests that the school failed to address issues of

they were testing the balloons that will be in this year's macy's thanksgiving parade. workers blew up the giant balloons in the parking lot at citifield. we got our first look at some of them. a different version of ronald mcdonald. the prehistoric squirrel from the ice age movies. and this throwback, sinclair oil dinosaur, remember from the olden days? >> i don't. >> come on. >> oil dinosaur? the lakers finally got their first victory of the season friday night with a win over the nets in brooklyn so this afternoon they were looking for their second and a new york city street. los angeles meeting the knicks today with what could be kobe bryant's final game at the garden if he retires. early jumper here. his good friend carmel o anthony had still bine trying to find his groove this young season. porzingis. after the break they langston 99-95 the knicks move to 3-4. the schedule does not get any easier for the islanders who leave for the west coast in their first major road trip of the season this week. a win over the bruins at home today would have gone a long way as the isles look to avoid a loss. advantage.

we're following a developing story. a 20-year-old man is in the hospital after being shot by police in brooklyn. police say he pulled out a gun and tried to rob a plain clothes detective near monroe street in bed-stuy. police also arrested a 16-year-old boy. a third suspect is still on the loose. a 9-year-old girl is dead after being mauled by a pit bull. the little girl was playing with two friends at a home in elmont in nassau county when the dog attacked. a police officer shot and killed the animal. police arrested the owner for violating a protection of order in a different case. also topping our news this half hour, a community in manhattan is mourning an elderly woman struck and killed by a taxi.

louisa rosario as everyone's grandmother. she was killed this morning as she crossed 109th street on the upper west side. the 11th pedestrian to be killed in a week. >> eyewitness news reporter cefaan kim has the story. >> to me she meant a lot. she's an amazing lady. every time she used to see me she was always telling me good things. she wanted me to do better for myself. >> reporter: to vargas, she was like a mother. 88-year-old louisa rosario struck and killed while crossing the street early sunday morning on the upper west side just steps from her home. in fact residents here say many consider her family, always there for you in times of need. >> everybody's grandmother, everybody's mother. if you ain't got a mother, that's your mom. if you're crying, you can cry with her. >> reporter: rosario was struck by a cab as she was crossing 109th here on columbus avenue. a candlelight vigil grows in her memory where the 88-year-old lost her life. sunday night the family stopped by to pay their respects.

too distraught to speak with us on camera. elvin garcia had just seen her laughing and joking hours before she lost her life. >> if you needed a plate of food, she had a plate of food for you. >> reporter: the driver was arrested, charged with failing to yield to a pedestrian. rosario was the third pedestrian killed while crossing the street since friday. a man was killed in ozone park, queens. just after 5 p.m. friday a crash claimed the life of an elderly woman crossing west end avenue 11 pedestrian fatalities since last week had mayor de blasio saying his plan to curb vehicular deaths is working saying there's a 16% drop compared to last year. >> driving too fast. i still think that's our number one problem and not being mindful and not respecting pedestrians. >> reporter: friends say even at 88 her life was cut too short.

a woman full of life and a step ahead. >> 88 years old was nothing to her. >> on the upper west side, cefaan kim, channel 7 eyewitness news. on long island four men are charged with burglary for allegedly robbing a home in west islip. suffolk county police say the man hit two people with the bat and then stole several items just before 3:00 this morning. using descriptions from residents, an officer found all four in a vehicle nearby. two victims were taken to the hospital. their injury said to be nonlife-threatening. one year ago a heartless crime devastated the small city of port jervis in orange county. the local shoemaker, a beloved man in town, died after a store. his next door neighbor decided to take action. and now 12 months later something good has emerged out of something so tragic. >> reporter: port jervis has a new set of electronic eyes keeping watch on all things good and bad. four cameras installed

earlier this year. >> we were going to get those cameras and we were going to get them donated. >> reporter: you heard that correctly. maria mann worked five months to get the cameras donated. her long time neighbor, 77-year-old josef kucher, was beaten and robbed inside his front street store. video from maria mann's security cameras led investigators to dennis mcbee of port jervis. investigators charged the 29-year-old with kucher's murder. as a tribute to a man she considered a second father, maria mann phoned, e-mailed, and ultimately persuaded samsung to give a $3,000 camera system to port jervis. >> to deter crime, vandalism. to keep our residents safer. >> perhaps no one appreciates

mann's efforts more than the korean war veteran's family. mike kucher allowed us in to his father's 43-year-old shop where the tools of a master craftsman sit frozen in time. >> sometimes terrible things have to happen for things to improve and for changes to happen that move communities in a better drexz. -- a better direction. >> reporter: city workers installed them in an area often marred by vandals and drug activity. the cameras are not yet linked to police headquarters but that should happen by thanksgiving. the police chief told us he's also working to get cameras in the downtown area. all part of a lasting legacy to a simple hardworking man who kept generations of customers comfortably on their feet. >> in these trying financial times it is very hard for us to purchase equipment without years of planning. it affects the taxpayers. so this is very

but didn't give details. an 18-year-old former student and two 15-year-olds face conspiracy to murder and other charges. two young men are back on solid ground in australia. >> after spending two hours trapped on a ledge, more than 150 feet above the ocean. officials say a group of friends was hiking in a national park south of sydney when one man fell off the cliff and landed on a ledge. his friend tried to help him. he also became stuck. one false move and the pair would have plummeted in to the sea. emergency crews were able to lower down and rescue them with ropes. one of the men suffered a back injury but is expected to make a full recovery. a connecticut mother could lose custody of her daughter for letting the girl ride on her motorized wheelchair. christine

seasonable in to the next weekend. bill evans has much more starting in the morning. as veterans day approaches, stolen service medals now replaced. >> a woman who lost two brothers in world war ii has held on to their medals for decades. four years ago though two purple hearts were stolen in a burglary. >> a ceremony was held in brooklyn to replace those medals. eyewitness news reporter mallory hoff was there. >> reporter: 93-year-old anne burns sang along as the songs echoed through. burn is the only surviving sibling of lieutenant andrew doyle who disappeared while flying a her other brother hugh patrick doyle was killed in action in germany. she's been the keeper of their

two purple hearts were stolen from her four years ago. now they're being replaced. burn's daughter maureen o'neil reached out to congressman dan donovan to request replacement medals. >> she realized they had been stolen. she was very sad. her brother hugh 's medals were not stolen because they had been engraved. andrew's had never been engraved so they were stolen. it's a devastating moment for her. but she's a woman of great faith. she's 93. >> reporter: in a formal medal presentation ceremony, congress dan donovan and brigadier general graham honored lieutenant doyle's sacrifice. >> worked with the army tirelessly to replace these medals for the family as a representation of this man's heroism and commitment to the nation. >> i know what this family has gone through and it's wonderful to be able as part of fort
