in the kings park central school district who are now suspended for this week for allegedly texting or even viewing video of a student in a sexually explicit video. the kids were pulled in to the principal's office last friday. they had to write statements if they had sent along the video or even watched it. >> the original people that sent it out, they have no answers to any of this. just suspend whomever they want. >> reporter: the superintendent wouldn't confirm how many students had been suspended, only saying any student involved in any way with the incident is under suspension. the superintendent telling eyewitness news this is an open and active police investigation and we have been informed that arrests have been made in conjunction with this incident. the district will continue to work with police during their investigation. this parent, who didn't want to be identified, says his daughter was suspended for sending the video when she was at home. >> you have to warn the kids if you know there's danger out

there for them. not after the fact that we gotcha. and that's what they did. >> some of the students could be in even deeper trouble. police telling us they could be making arrests of the students who passed this video along. live in kings park, kristin thorne, channel 7 eyewitness news. two cars colliding on staten island, one of them into a utility pole and that killed one person. the 28-year-old male passenger of that car that hit the pole died. the vehicle's 25-year-old driver now in critical condition. an 18-year-old in the back seat and the 88-year-old driver of the other car had minor neck and back pains. >> police right now still searching for two people in connection with that shooting near penn station. one man was killed, two others wounded in what police say is a known drug area near 8th and west 35th. kemberly richardson has obtained new surveillance video showing

she's live for us now in midtown. >> this is where that shooting happened in a matter of second but people here tell me this area is a known hot spot for drugs and that that's what fueled this beef. an ongoing feud between two groups. >> it's unbelievable. broad daylight. >> reporter: police say just after 6:00 this morning a gunman opened fire at the bottom of the stairs leading to the subway. the man walking in the red jacket stops. he clearly hears gunfire. then in the far upper left corner you see one man stumble one of the victims. then two men take off on foot north. he saw the suspects seconds to >> he ran to the car. he had grabbed his weapon and came back, 10 seconds later shots were fired. >> reporter: police are now learning more about this case, what sparked the shooting. one

theory, a drug deal gone bad. >> right now we believe the motive is possibly narcotics. that's an active narcotics location that we've made 52 arrests so far this year in front of and inside that mcdonald's. >> the mcdonald's on 8th africa africa -- 8th avenue, police say two men in hoodies started talking with the trio then left. shortly after the victims also walked out of the mcdonald's heading toward those stairs to the subway. that's when one of the men followed the group and opened fire. two victims were hit in the leg and torso. a third twice in the head. he died. sources tell eyewitness news he was a known heroin dealer. >> is this surprising you that this happened? >> no, absolutely not. >> reporter: rob didn't want to show his face. he doesn't know the suspects but he says he knows what went down. >> they called them out and when they called them out they

bull attacked and killed a little girl. 28-year-old carlyle arnold was arrested yesterday and then charged on an unrelated matter. investigators have not determined if he was at home when amiyah dunston was mauled to death while playing in a friend's backyard. >> she was a phenomenal girl. touched many lives with her presence, smile, and laughs. we thank you for your support and prayer. please let us mourn our terrible tragic loss. thank you. >> police officer tried to save the girl. he shot and killed the dog when it lunged. investigators are also trying to figure out what, if anything, provoked the dog. she's been running for president since last spring but tonight hillary clinton officially a candidate for the nation's first primary in new hampshire. clinton dropping by the secretary of state's office in concord. she's signing a form declaring her candidacy and

paying the $1,000 filing fee. clinton now in new hampshire for five events over the next two days. they've bitterly included in the past but today president obama and israel's prime minister benjamin netanyahu actually finding some common ground. it was their first meeting in a year as the u.s. considers its military aid package to israel. dave evans is here now with more. >> the two have certainly clashed a lot in the last few months, especially over the u.s. backed iran nuclear agreement. today a different side of the obama-netanyahu relationship lately even as the white house is now making it clear nobody expects a new israel palestinian peace agreement before president obama leaves office in january 2017. >> reporter: the president and prime minister were cordial today and said all the right things. >> the security of israel is one of my top foreign policy priorities and that has expressed itself not only in words but in deeds.

officials say a worker at the airport where the plane took off likely smuggled an explosive onboard. investigators are scouring surveillance video and the records of airport employees for clues. a group affiliate would isis has claimed responsibility for the crash that killed all 224 people onboard. contractors working on the roof of a warehouse. that's what investigators now say likely start ed a fire. flames shot out of the roof. took firefighters about an hour to get it under control. fortunately nobody was hurt. police in brooklyn looking for the suspect in an attempted luring. the target, an 11-year-old boy who police say reported a man approached him. he said the man offer ed candy and basketballs and told the boy he had a vehicle which the boy said he never saw. the boy refused the offers then went to school. three men on a jet ski end up in the hudson. coming up on eyewitness news at 5:00, we'll hear from the good samaritans who saved them.

new at 5:00, a group of men who probably should have known better than to ride three guys on a jet she. today lucky to be alive. saved by good samaritans. joe torres talking to the rescuers. >> that jet ski accident happened 24 hours ago, right around this time yesterday. here on the hudson river in peekskill. three men on one jet ski. for one reason or another the jet ski overturned. the men went in to the water. every time they tried to up right it, the jet ski took on more water. thank goodness there were two good samaritans nearby. >> got no business being on the water when the water is 50 degrees. >> reporter: three men on one jet ski ended up in the hudson river around 5:00 sunday evening. they immediately called for help. >> we looked and we see this jet ski sinking with a person on it.

so they ran over to the club and grabbed their work boat and shot out there. we thought there was two then there was three people. >> john and his friend ryan who happened to be in the nearby boat yard quickly notices the men were not prepared for a night on the water. >> they're in jeans and sweatshirt with lifejackets. after a while that's not the best attire to have after being in the water. >> reporter: the three rescuers were wearing lifejackets so drowning wasn't so much a concern. the water temperature, that's a different story. a bone chilling 51 degrees. >> the one older gentleman there, he was really cold. i tried to warm him up a little bit as we were heading back. >> reporter: the two good samaritans and fellow boaters don't consider themselves heroes but were glad they were in a position to lend a helping hand. >> it's just something i hope someone would do for me if i was in the situation. >> it's a natural instinct. you want somebody

be there for you. >> the police here in peekskill telling us the three men from down river. they're all okay and presumably warm tonight thanks in large part to the actions of those two good samaritans. joe torres, channel 7 eyewitness news. somebody tried to assassinate a judge in texas. police are going through the old case files looking for suspects. somebody opened fire when the judge got out of her car. fortunately the bullets missed her. the judge was hit by shrapnel and broken glass. russian track and field athletes may not be allowed to compete in next year's summer olympics. the country's government is accused of covering up widespread doping. it claims the doping lab in moscow destroyed more than 1400 test samples during last year's sochi olympics.

sunshine and 57 degrees. 54, wrightstown. damp morning commute tomorrow maybe up to old bridge new jersey. it gets a little questionable once you get north and west of new york city. we'll go with cloudy in the forecast through the overnight and at 7 a.m. it may not be raining in new york city. awful close. there are showers off to the south. wind will be freshening off the ocean gusting to 20 miles per hour and there will be off and on rain, soggier along the coastline. the clouds are thickening up right now. there's an area of rain, looks like it wants to get in to southern new jersey. the thing is it's not just one system. it's actually multiple lows. they're sort of going away from this. if they continue to have a link, gnaw, we're going to get wet. the indication is this is the system that takes over. the wildcard is you've got tropical storm kate nudging this to the north as well. kate is not

bay extension, shannon sohn, eyewitness news. general manager of the new york mets sandy alderson will miss the annual general manager meeting for what the team is calling an unspecified medical procedure. he didn't want to make the details public and they insist this has nothing to do with the scare last week where alderson fainted during a news conference. alderson was supposed to have the procedure several weeks ago but had to be delayed when the mets made it to the world series. it was 50 years ago today that new york city along with the entire northeast plunged in to darkness during a massive blackout. the outage started about 5:30 in the evening at a plant near niagara falls. the problem spread, knocking out power all the way from canada to new jersey. at one point 30 million people were without electricity. thousands were trapped in stalled subway cars and elevators. this all across new york city and the lights, they did not start coming back on in the five boroughs until

investigation dealing with a church shooting. that's the latest from jamesburg, new jersey, anthony johnson, channel 7 eyewitness news. from new jersey to long island where a prominent cardiologist indicted in charges for an alleged murder for hire plot. accused of arson and selling rifles and prescription drugs. he was linked to a fire at that consider's office. due back in court on december 9th. closing arguments today in the infamous case played out in the movie good fellas. an attorney for vincent asaro tells the prosecutor's witness despicable people and accomplished liars. they say he helped organize the $6 million heist nearly 40 years ago. jury is expected to deliberate tomorrow. hundreds of yale students marched across campus today over concerns about racism at the ivy league school. a school of

students marched in the walk of rezilance. it follows recent incidents at yale including the allegation a student was turned away from a frat party because she was not white. the university will take action. meanwhile, the president of the university of missouri resigned today among student and faculty protests over alleged racial injustice on campus. even football players went on strike. elizabeth hur has the latest. >> reporter: cheers and chants from students celebrating the resignation of university of mississippi president tim wolf. >> it's really just about fairness, not just about tim wolf resigning but about getting equal rights. >> it really makes me as a student just feel glad that i know i could affect something if i needed to. >> reporter: wolf announcing he is stepping down. >> my motivation in making this decision comes from love. >> reporter: his decision following student protests, faculty walkouts and even football players and their coach refusing to take the field until wolf resigned.

to a 6-year-old boy who was killed by police officers in louisiana. funeral services held for jeremy in hattiesburg, mississippi. prosecutors say the 1st grader was killed by marshals who opened fire on his father's car. attorneys said video from a body camera said the man had his hands race before the officers began shooting. the two officers have been charged with murder. the city of boston banning so called replica guns. the toys look so lifelike, they could easily be mistaken for real weapons and that could lead to deadly results. police already confiscating the toys new law. sea world in san diego canceling the signature killer whale show. it will be phased out in 2016. they say customers made it clear they would rather see the whales acting naturally rather than doing tricks.

hss.edu/backinthegame we're back. we've got more breaking news. another accident, this in brooklyn. a car overturned on the sidewalk. you can see lots of activity in what looks like an ambulance or ambulet. >> just a horrible crash within the last few minutes. you see them taking one person away on a stretcher. at this point that's the only injury we can confirm for you. we did see them working on that gentleman in front of car. it's presumed that was a pedestrian on the sidewalk at the time that the accident happened. you can see this car completely overturned and is upside down on the sidewalk on flatbush avenue just between albemarle road and tilden avenue.

you for a second, this happened in front of 992 flatbush avenue. we want to bring you on the sidewalk to give you an idea how bad it was. there are pieces of the car strewn over the sidewalk. you can see where the tree was taken out. that one person now being brought to a waiting ambulance. you can imagine this was a terrible scene and no idea what caused this car to careen out of control. shannon sohn, channel 7 eyewitness news. lawmakers from new york rallying today to call for an extension of the zadroga act. members urging paul ryan to renew funding for the law that gives health benefits for 9/11 first responders. there are 72,000 first responders from all 50 states. they all helped out after the terror attacks.

de blasio says if it's not renewed they'll all lose critical medical treatments. >> this is truly a red, white, and blue issue. this is a question of patriotism. are we going to serve those who responded after an attack on our nation? the answer must be yes and it must be permanent. >> the law expired officially last month because we're told there is enough funding to last another year. after that there's a problem. also a proposal to extend the act for five years but they say it has to be made permanent. the white house launching the potus facebook page with the video showing the president giving a tour of his backyard which is also a national park. his first facebook post is a message about climate change. >> if all of america is joining around this critical project then we can have confidence that we're doing right by future generations.

area get an inch or two of rain and i can see how other parts get less than a 10th of an inch. we go outside right now, we have mainly cloudy skies but another dry pleasant november evening. the thing about the umbrella, when have you needed it the last couple months? two or three times a month? you have to think about having the umbrella handy for a couple days this week. cloudy skies. the wind is calm right now. this is entered around the five boroughs. a lot of clouds around, lower 50s. let's take a planner from monmouth county in neptune, new jersey. look how rain is coming in in the pre-dawn hours. north and west of new york city not necessarily a slam dunk there. i have put rain in the forecast especially late morning in to the afternoon hours for much of the area and then another round that will go in to tomorrow evening and much of the area will get at least a quarter of an inch of rainfall. might be higher amounts especially along the coast. the initial rain is starting to dry up.

this is a pretty big batch of rainfall. then you have tropical storm kate here. just an indirect impact because this is going way out to sea. no problem there. it is sort of pushing this coastal a little farther to the north. if it can't escape out to sea, we get on its western fringe. we get decent rainfall along the coast. look how the futurecast is suggesting that. rain at daybreak and then this is the radar which i'm not sure is going to verify. i think we're going to have steady rain eastern long island, jersey shore. this may not exist around here. may be lighter there will still be the opportunity for rainss that will go through you can see on veterans day we may start out with clouds and a shower then it thins out during the afternoon hours. lighter rain at 62. friday in to the weekend we get everything sunshine, 60 friday. a nice tip dry -- a nice typical november weekend.

[ laughter ] >> she means me and her. >> one woman finding out the scam. >> every year-round this time -- every year around this time the scams come. a local mom struggling to make ends meet part-time job. >> reporter: raising a growing boy by herself, franklin's their bills. >> i needed a second job and i thought i found it. >> reporter: she jumped at the offer, an e-mail to earn money as a mystery shopper. >> i saw the walmart hiring now and i was like oh, maybe i can do this. >> reporter: she was sent thousands in these postal money

orders, ordered to deposit them in her bank account, then withdraw the funds and follow her secret shopping instructions. >> i was supposed to buy something at walmart then send the rest. >> reporter: she wired the western union. >> i had to evaluate the way the store looked, how the customer service was. >> reporter: she completed three jobs before getting a call from her bank about those money orders. >> i'm like how is it counterfeits >> reporter: they were all fakes now she owes her bank $5,000. >> i just broke down. >> if someone is telling you to deposit any money, red flag. >> reporter: the u.s. postal service warns customers to always authenticate postal money orders. >> you have to investigate. you have to do your work to make certain that this is a legitimate company. >> reporter: remember the original e-mail enticing her to mystery shop for walmart? a closer look revealed a dead

giveaway it was not legit. >> i noticed walmart was spelled incorrectly? with two ts at the end. >> reporter: if she had noticed that, the young mom said she wasn't have fallen for the scam that cost her and her son their home. >> i'm just thinking about my son. it's around the holidayings. -- it's around the holidays. how do you tell a 6-year-old that christmas is not going to happen? >> call the u.s. postal service, go to the post office, find out whether it's real. just because a bank cashes a check doesn't mean it's good. the banks can come back to you months later with bad checks. never pay for a job. anyone being asked to be sent money is a scam. don't do it to people you don't know. taking christmas out of christmas. >> coming up, we'll show you the changes some malls in our area are making after customers' complaints went viral.

from starbucks coffee cups to mall displays, there's a growing backlash on social media when retailers try to take the christmas out of christmas. eyewitness news reporter michelle charlesworth has the story. >> i have never seen anything like this before, the whole glacier gate, bring the christmas tree back.

outcry seems to have started with roosevelt field mall. this person wrote, quote, i'm an agnostic and i don't like the cold blandness of the decorations. so a change happened. trees. the firestorm on social media continued. quote, keep christ in christmas. the power of the people through the media worked. merry christmas. then came another posting. the ice glacier came down replaced with this. >> i think this is a first time thing and it's a pilot project by simon malls. they tried this experiment in five different malls and it backfired in all five. >> reporter: roosevelt field mall is owned by simon malls which also owns the westchester mall. this was a picture posted over the weekend of the christmas display with santa and two snow men. this is what we saw walking in to today. a new nut cracker backdrop and santa claus and those two same snow men. the mall president sent us a statement.

ago that gunfire erupted inside this deli at the corner of east 166th street and college avenue. we know at this point it was two males that were shot. both of them taken to lincoln hospital. one in stable condition but the other in serious condition. you can see the flashlights really all across the street here. police are investigating inside and outside the deli at this point. they have no suspects in custody. no clue as to what caused this gunfire to erupt in the first place. as you come through this area, college avenue left to right, that's going to be shut down with an investigation between east 167th and east 165th streets. this is knowing to be an ongoing investigation and two people shot. both are now in the hospital. reporting live over the bronx, shannon sohn, channel 7 eyewitness news. >> hopefully surveillance video will help the police. now to that brutally
