i'm bill ritter. cops right now questioning witnesses. this after the 16-year-old's body was found in the claremont section of the bronx. >> aj ross on the scene for us. >> it's a tragic story, just 16 years old when her entire life ahead of her. police have been here off this apartment off east 171st for several hours, trying to piece together just how this deadly shooting occurred. at this hour they're still collecting evidence and interviewing several eyewitnesss who were inside the home with the victim. >> reporter: a desperate 911 call brought police to the first floor of east 171st and college avenue after 6:00 this evening. when detectives arrived they found a 16-year-old girl dead inside, shot in the face. police quickly secured the scene, limiting access to the building as they collected evidence and talked with witnesses.

a young man was escorted from the building in handcuffs along with a woman who was placed in the back of a detective's car. investigators say there were several people inside the same apartment with the girl when the deadly shooting occurred. so far no gun has been recovered from the scene. we spoke with a neighbor who believes she may have seen the victim in passing and says she's now praying for the family. >> it's really sad. you send your kids to school and they don't come home. it's really sad. >> at this hour you can see police still here at the front door of this apartment at east 171st street. police confirmed this 16-year-old girl, she did not live here. she was just visiting. so far no arrests have been made in this case. live in the claremont section of the bronx, aj ross, channel 7 eyewitness news. >> we'll have the latest tomorrow beginning at 4:30. new york about to become

tonight provided by the real windy city. the 8-mile long chicago skyway bridge shut down tonight, just too dang windy. so what are we in store for? meteorologist lee goldberg tracking it all at the weather wall. >> waves on lake michigan big enough for surfing earlier. now our cameras starting to react to some of that wind picking up. we're at 58. we'll be dropping. temperatures not the problem. west wind sustain ed at 15. gusts off the north and west. just the beginning. we were able to avoid the heavy rains with this system. showers the last of them moving away we had a couple hours ago. it's a huge storm and we missed the heavy rain but we can't miss the impact of the big wind field. sampling those winds underneath that low we're gusting to near 40 miles per hour. that's in our future tomorrow afternoon. clearing and breezy tomorrow night. by dawn look for wind gusts around 25 miles per hour. because it's a lot drier

this building in the baruch houses to fix the lock that's meant to keep intruders out. didn't work this morning. >> why did it have to happen now for them to fix the doors? >> reporter: police say this man had been trolling lower manhattan, hunting for a woman to rape. he followed a 33-year-old in to her james street apartment building and grabbed her but she fought him off. he then followed a 24-year-old woman in to her building but she screamed and he fled. an hour after that the baruch houses. he walked through the unlocked door and up the stairs, encountered a 40-year-old mother as she entered her apartment. pushed her in and raped her. >> she was always very polite. said good morning to you, how you doing. very calm person. >> reporter: nifep -- nicha takes the security seriously. security cameras here did work to give detectives the footage they need. >> look at this.

jihadi john reportedly killed in a u.s. air strike. officials tell abc news the masked terrorist who beheaded several western hostages and was in charge of propaganda for isis was hit by a drone in the city of rocka earlier tonight. the militant raised in london but traveled to syria to join isis in 2012. new at 11:00, how did new york city emts declare a woman dead but she wasn't? an investigation now underway in queens. emts and new york cops at the woman's apartment this morning in the richland hills section. the 32-year-old had shot herself in head. emts declared her dead. they left. an hour later police heard noises coming from her. surprise. she was alive. tonight she's in critical condition. we have new video. a drive-by shoot ing on a bicycle and it was caught on camera in the bronx. tonight the shooter is on the loose. police say the man rode past a 15-year-old boy. happened last week in the morrisania section. the boy was

not hit by any of the bullets. surveillance shows a suspect walking up to a car in stanford on sunday dousing it with some sort of accelerant, then lighting the vehicle on fire. the car erupts in a ball of flames and is gutted. police are searching for the man who was driving a light colored honda civic. a huge defeat tonight for federal prosecutors in new york. the mob boss who they spent decades investigating tonight acquitted of plotting the heist at jfk, one of the most notorious crimes in new york history and the plot for "good fellas." asaro now a free man. the jury believed he didn't plan the crime. >> if walls could talk, right? this used to be a bar called robert's lounge, a notorious mob headquarters for three decades and vincent asaro's favorite

former subway pitchman jared fogle facing 12 and a half years in prison. prosecutors asking for the maximum sentence on fogle's child pornography and sex crime charges. fogle's attorney asked for five years, the minimum under the agreement. sentencing comes a week from today. another scandal for the secret service. a you -- a uniformed agent under arrest accused of sending obscene texts to someone he thought was a teenage girl. lee robert morris surrendered today. he sent obscene pictures and chatted online with undercover agents pretending to be a 14-year-old girl, sometimes on duty checking i.d.s at the white house. wreckage found today of a cargo ship that sank in bahamas during hurricane joaquin. they

let's say 12 to 25 miles per hour tomorrow morning. fair amount of sunshine. there's definitely some cloudiness mixing in with the sun tomorrow. gusts to 30 by midday and certainly 35 to 40 during the afternoon. you've got your highs in the 55 to 59 or 60-degree range. doesn't feel as warm as today because the humidity is so much lower. one round of showers, we talked about the front that still had to come through and a couple showers impacted the area. they've now moved out. it's a massive storm. you can see how expansive it is and huge, wind snow on the backside of the storm so it's carrying pretty chilly air. it will be dropping over the next couple of days especially noticeable tomorrow night in to saturday. in the 30s to near freezing and wind chills that are dropping in to the teens and 20s. good news for us, this is a quick cold shot. only going to last through saturday then will start to recover after sunday morning. here's your futurecast. by tomorrow morning, sunshine, a few patchy clouds. more off to the north and west. 45 to 50.

the rex man returns to his home stomping grounds. close. it was kind of cool though. they brought out new uniforms, empire state building all gustied up. fans could hardly contain themselves. rex ryan is in town. here's the moment just after 6:00 tonight when ryan entered the stadium. last year he was the jets head coach fired after a four-win season, landed on his feet in buffalo. back in his old stomping grounds for the first time since. rex ryan returned, old team against his new team. game still in progress just barely. 22-17 bills 4th quarter. offense coming on strong in the 2nd half. both teams trying to sprint to the playoffs. they're going to fight the rest of the way. jets trying to get to 6-3. this has gone final now. bills win 22-17. jets had it on 4th and goal. couldn't get the extra points they needed. yikes. both the jets and the bills now chase the patriots in the standings. they're 8-0 and they come to town sunday. the giants
