of reporters covering the attacks in paris and house security officials and concerned residents in our area are reacting. first lucy yang has the latest on the wide sweeping investigation. >> this just in. air strikes in syria. the french confirm they were launched from jordan and the united emirates. the operation was carried out with u.s. help. there are tweets that power and water service have been disrupted in certain areas, as france lashes out after the horrific slaughter in paris. >> reporter: panic in paris as morning suddenly turns to mayhem. from the iconic problem, honoring the victims of the attacks. nearby more chaos

where a hail of bullets rained down terror days before. tonight french police report fireworks set off the frenzy. >> we have to act. there may be somebody with a gun. we just have to see. >> reporter: a day of false alarms had parisians on edge as investigators launch an international manhunt for 26-year-old. police believe the french national born in brussels rented the black volkswagon used. >> there was shooting for 10 minutes without stopping. >> reporter: is he from a family of terrorists, officials report he is one of three brothers with blood on his hands. one died in the attack. the other was arrested today. six other suspect s in belgium have also been captured. in france police have recovered a second car used in the killings and inside found three assault rifles. isis has claimed

responsibility for the attacks and today we're told there was advanced warning. iraq's foreign minister says senior iraqi intelligence officials warned france along with other coalition nations of imminent assaults from isis. most of the victims have been identified including american college student noemi gonzalez, a 23-year-old design student from cal state long beach who was having the time of her life. >> i feel lost. sadness. it was my only daughter. >> as for the advanced warning, we're learning the information was passed along just one day before the attacks and without many specifics. so it may have been too little too late for authorities to adequately protect all those victims. >> here at home beefed up

in the wake of those attacks in paris. included on that list, metlife stadium. >> here at metlife stadium, procedures. out of an abundance of caution it's increased law outside. all nfl stadiums throughout the country today. we see fans being padded down as there are more police officers here to and heavily armed vehicles. the emergency response unit posted in the parking lot. the league also says all nfl clubs use mandatory metal detector screenings and adds they've been

investigation underway in jersey city. police responded to a shooting at a mini market this afternoon. a man was fatally shot inside. this is the 18th murder in jersey city this year. the terror attacks in paris are dominating the agenda at the g20 summit in turkey. leaders began the conference with a moment of silence this morning. president obama said while the meeting is generally a forum for economic issues, the events on friday have sharpened focus on combatting terrorism. >> the killing of innocent people based on a twisted ideology is an attack not just on france, not just on turkey, but it's an attack on the civilized world. >> president obama met with the russian president during that meeting today. he did not provide details of the

on the need for a cease fire in syria and syrian-led political transition in the country. in the wake of the attacks in paris the nypd has stepped up its presence to keep us safe. this morning police commissioner bill bratton said while new york city has the best anti-terrorism forces in the country, the department can still learn from friday's tragic events. >> we have to be prepared to defend when an attack occurs. it will happen here. in our case we're going to learn from this event that reinforcing the idea that you don't stay outside waiting as police. you have to get in. >> commissioner bratton said friday's attacks may have presented a new type challenge. the attackers may have communicated through encrypted messages that cannot be monitored. we're going to shift gears now, talk about a gorgeous fall day. is this what you would

the jersey shore. this is our stream lines that show you which way the wind is blowing. we're getting a southwesterly wind on the north side. that's why we warm things up during the day today. colder air lurking to our north. this is going to seep through the hudson valley and down through new england late tomorrow night in to the day on tuesday. and that's why this week is going to be kind of a roller coaster ride in the temperature department. in the meantime though tomorrow is going to be a great day. there's where we call that backdoor cold front sinking in from new england. behind that, significantly cooler on tuesday. below normal for this time of the year. only getting up to 52. some locations north and west might not even get out of

the 40s and that's despite a lot of sunshine. it won't quite feel the part. it will be pretty chilly out there. there could be as this system approaches from the west. before that happens the warmth tries to return wednesday in to thursday ahead of that cold front. here's your accuweather forecast for tonight. clear, not as chilly. we're down to about 47 in midtown. even in the suburbs, a lot of suburbs not getting down in to the 30s like they did last night. as we head in to the day tomorrow, nice and warm, plenty of sunshine. the high getting tomorrow chillier. that's when that backdoor cold front moves on by. 30 to 35 degrees in the outlying areas. here's your accuweather 7-day forecast. tuesday. the high only getting in to the low 50s despite a lot of sunshine. it turns cloudier a little bit milder. there could be rain coming in late wednesday night. i think the daylight hours of wednesday would be dry. then thursday turns stormy.

busy day, busy night for workers at the garden. laura behnke? >> it certainly is. we may be an ocean away from paris and our sporting events may be continued to play as normal but there is no real normal after acts of violence occur, even games that are played for pure across the country all thoughts were on france including madison square

garden. kevin seraphin carved paris in to his hair. there was game. in addition to the star-spangled banner they also anthem. new orleans had the anthony davis led everyone with 36 points. the knicks begin their comeback. carmelo anthony, 29 points from new york. 4-point lead right here then there was seraphin. the offensive board plus the put-back. seraphin finished with 12 points in 14 minutes to help the knicks stay in front, which they did. knicks win. they're now 5-6. it took an extra 20 games to get five wins last year for new york. with 13 games on the nfl schedule today, the league was taking no chances with security, upping the police presence at every stadium including metlife where there was a much anticipated game to be played

between the giants and patriots. in addition to all that beefed up security, it affected the pre-game scene at the meadowland where a french flag was on the field for a moment of silence and damontre moore taped up his arms in the color of the french flag. keeping those in paris in their thoughts. the giants and patriots weren't the only ones to honor france. there was a moment of silence before every game in the nfl including in st. louis where the rams hosted the bears. there were also american servicemen and women on the field. while in philadelphia, also a moment of silence before the eagles hosted the dolphins and while there was a huge american flag on the field, the stand. in baltimore that sentiment made it on to the field as the ravens took the the jaguars. morgan cox running out of the tunnel with the french flag before they too held a moment of silence. that's just a small sample of what we league and beyond today.

member states of the european union will join france in a moment of silence. meanwhile security is tight in paris and right here in our area as well. people watching the giants take on the patriots right now will notice heightened security at metlife stadium. officials will be on high alert wherever a large crowd is expected. >> we have a team of reporters covering events here. first eyewitness news reporter lucy yang has got the latest developments on the investigation in to the attacks. >> tonight france is responding with force. an air strike has been launched over syria. the french 10 other owned fighter jets were launched from the united arab emirates and from jordan and with help from the u.s. as france lashes out with air strikes. in paris mourners are clearly on edge. today a false alarm sparked panic in paris as

camera running from their lives, from the republic plaza, the site of a memorial honoring the victim of friday's attacks. french police with guns drawn determined the fireworks caused all that chaos. investigators have launched an international manhunt for this man, 26-year-old salah abdeslam, a french national. we're learning one of the shooters, a 30-year-old man, had been five years ago. >> we don't have enough people to follow all the suspects on their list. >> take a look at this photo. this is the passport picture found on one of the attackers, refugee. he came through a greek island alone and unarmed.

france and other coalition nations of an imminent attack one day before the assault on paris but was that enough information to have prevented all that innocent bloodshed? new yorkers continue to stand in solidarity with the people of paris tonight. right now underway in brooklyn, an interfaith vigil organized by the borough president and members of the french community. eyewitness news reporter mallory hoff is in carroll gardens with more. >> as you can see here, things are now just getting started. members of this community tell us their hearts are with their brothers and sisters in paris. right now they're preparing to hold an interfaith vigil and walk to show their support during this incredibly trying time. the event will begin here in carol park. it will end at the agnus roman catholic church. this regularly offers mass in french.

this weekend as a musician played john lennon "imagine." >> celebrities and entertainers are now canceling their trips abroad in the wake of the paris attacks. u2 visited a vigil last night after canceling the rest of their european tour. they were scheduled to perform in paris tomorrow. actress natalie portman also canceled her appearance at her new film's premier in france. 20th century fox canceled plans for the cast paris. foo fighters offered condolences to paris while canceling the rest of their tour. we're going to turn now to the weather. we have a pretty good looking week ahead of that. except for that one day. >> that one day could be pretty stormy. we could be talking flooding downpours during the day on thursday. we head

over toward midtown from our camera in astoria, queens. that temperature sitting at 56 degrees, clear skies. wind coming in from the west at 5 miles per hour. so the wind really calmed down during the day today, compared to what we had yesterday and what we had during the day on friday when winds were gusting up to 40 here's your planner. 54 at 7:00 under clear skies. wind is stay light. we're back up to 60 by noon time and i think we'll top out in the lower 60s around 1:00 or 2:00 in the afternoon before falling back in to the 50s. look at that wind. starts shifting in to a northwesterly direction. that's behind a backdoor cold front and behind that front, significantly cooler for tomorrow night and in to the day tuesday. speaking of cool, it did get pretty chilly this morning. 39 in the park. even got down in to the 20s in poughkeepsie and sussex. got

in somerville, new jersey. got down near new jersey. near freezing on the island on islip. a nice recovery during the afternoon. some spots west of new york city and across much of new jersey as a matter of fact approaching and exceeding that 60-degree mark which is significantly above normal for this time of year. we should be in the mid 50s. 57 right now, middletown. 48 your temperature at monticello. even the suburbs overnight tonight, we won't have the widespread 30s like we had last night. 55, belmar. 52 on the island at islip. high pressure firmly in control off to our south. that's why we get a generally southwesterly wind during the day today. we zoom things off to the west. there's a storm system approaching the california coast. this is a typical el nino pattern. we get a small subtropical jet stream transporting moisture from the pacific across the lower 48 states. a lot of that moisture

is going to be around here during the day thursday. we'll track it for you on the futurecast. no weather worries around here during the next several days except for a big temperature change from tomorrow in to the day tuesday. we do become significantly cooler during that backdoor front. even by midday wednesday we start increasing our clouds. rainfall still off to our west by that point. this heavy band of rainfall with a connection all the way down to the gulf of mexico will be moving in here during the day thursday. that's why we could have very heavy rainfall rates which could cause some flooding especially during the thursday evening commute. in the meantime wake-up temperatures for tomorrow morning, basically our overnight lows tonight. 43 in white plains. the only places that get down in to the upper 30s are poughkeepsie, sussex, monticello. 62 in central park. getting in to the middle and upper 60s from belmar to toms river. nice and warm by

typical for this type of year. this next story harkss to cooler temperatures. the fdny issuing a warning after one person was killed in a fire caused by a portable space heater. space heaters are to blame for one out of three home heating fires and more than 80% of deaths. >> consumer reports just tested nearly 40 space heaters and says if you have an older one, consider replacing it. newer heaters are much safer. here's ken rosato. >> this is what's left of carom bell's house. a fire started here where a space heater was plugged in to an outlet. >> i'm very leery of using one again. >> reporter: the family got out safely but the blaze destroyed her home. today's heaters are safer than they used to be. this test simulates what would happen if fabric, say a curtain, comes in to contact with the space heater. with some there's
