>> reporter: ms. guzman is from elmwood park, new jersey but she was here in paris leaving the soccer stadium when attacks there started friday night. >> i was in the middle of such a panic. all i remember in my head are just running and seeing people falling but people just running on top of each other because we're just trying to run for our lives. >> she said she wants to finish her semester here in paris. she's made good friends. she doesn't want to leave. she admits she is a little spooked by what happened. she's not alone. a whole country spooked by what's happened here. jim dolan, channel 7 eyewitness news. >> in response to the terror attack in paris, a lot more security tonight at the barclays center for the barclays say they work closely

with the nypd to add measures scenes. tonight we saw the nypd deploy officers with a new critical response command unit at lincoln center. they're heavily armed and specially trained to respond to attacks. >> we operate on the assumption if we have one of these attacks, their intention is to kill everybody they get their hands on. we'll move very quickly to move in to stop that threat. >> the nypd will also be sending teams to paris this week to learn everything they can about the suicide vest and technology used by the attackers. tonight isis issuing a direct threat on our nation's capital. an isis fighter in iraq vow s to attack washington, d.c. like paris. the mayor of dc city is always at a heightened level of security and ready to respond.

backlash tonight across the u.s. against syrian refugees after it was revealed one of the terrorists likely came in to france as a refugee. saying they don't want syrian refugees in their states. governor cuomo reflecting existing federal law, says states do not have a right to ban refugees. in connecticut governor malloy supports accepting refugees. governor christie says he's wait ing for more information on the vetting process. president obama says it's un-american to block syrian refugees who will be heavily vetted before entering this country. governors claim terrorists will infiltrate the u.s. by hiding among the refugees. >> anyway you can do a background check of someone living in syria is absolutely ridiculous. these are dangerous times. we are at war whether the people want to admit it or not and we want to keep mississippi out of that war. >> immigration experts questioning the legality of

food takeout to this red hook community when disaster struck. >> i saw him from my window. i was like, i heard the guy yelling whoa, and then bam. it hit him. >> reporter: we're told the tree fell right on top of the worker. his loved ones rushing to the scene. from newscopter7 you could see his crushed bike underneath. >> hardworking sweet by and everything. everybody liked him. always said hi, how you doing? okay, i gotta go. real nice person . >> reporter: the accident happened around 1:00 monday afternoon along this path which cuts through coffee park. the parks department confirms an outside contractor was in the process of removing trees damaged from superstorm sandy when one fell on top of the victim. the big question tonight, why wasn't this path closed off? >> there seems to be negligence on behalf of the contractor who were working with only two people. they did not caution off the area. >> reporter: the restaurant ling gee closed shortly after

the accident. this fellow delivery man said they crossed paths on their bikes just seconds before the horrible accident. >> he passed me. then i heard the noise and i looked back. he was on the floor. >> did you hear anyone saying watch out, tree is falling down? >> i didn't hear anything. >> so there are conflicting accounts tonight as to whether or not those workers issued a warning before the tree fell down. it's also not clear if the man would have understood what they were saying to him. we're also learning residents say that when crews remove trees from different areas of the park a few days ago, they did block off that section of the park. we're live outside methodist hospital in park slope, lucy yang, channel 7 eyewitness news. the nypd just releasing surveillance images of two suspects wanted for stabbing a teenager at a subway stop in brooklyn. police say the suspects robbed two young men at

knifepoint in the highlands section late today. the suspects punched a 20-year-old victim then stabbed a 17 -year-old twice. the suspects got away on foot. the victims are in stable condition. a stabbing in brooklyn to a shooting. two people shot in canarsie, both then near a bus stop, apparently shot for no reason. cops looking for the gunmen who shot them both. josh einiger at the 69 precinct with the latest. >> just in the past half hour the father of one of the victims came by here to talk to detectives with the 69 squad, claiming his son did not know his attacker and that his only crime was to wait for a bus when someone for some reason opened fire. >> reporter: police spent hours tonight trying to piece together this sudden outbreak of violence. >> i heard about three gunshots go off. >> reporter: gunshots at the height of rush hour as a 44-year-old man was waiting for the bus but found himself in the crossfire.

ward i see people running. >> reporter: police believe the shooting was targeted at one of the victims, a 21-year-old man hit in the leg. other victims minding his own business when he took a bullet in the chest. police searched for surveillance video but said despite several cameras in the area none captured this shooting. they're hoping witnesses will come forward to help them crack this case. >> the world is not as safe as you think it is. >> both victims are expected to survive their injuries. in the meantime police have not said if they have a suspect or even a motive in this case. live outside the 69 precinct station house in canarsie, josh einiger, channel 7 eyewitness news. we have shocking new video tonight showing a man viciously beaten with a bat. just got this video from the nypd. it shows two men chasing the victim. landing several blows. it happened early sunday morning in the mount hope section. a third man can be seen yelling at the victim.

new at 11:00, a second chance at life. 100 adorable puppies once slated to be euthanized now saved from animal shelters in california. the small breed dogs arriving by plane to long island about an hour ago. joe torres tweeted this photo of the few pups on their cross-country journey. he was there when they landed in farmingdale. >> it was a six-hour journey for about 100 small breed dogs who traveled not only from los angeles but from death to life. >> unfortunately the fate of these dogs, many of them faced euthanasia in municipal shelters in california. >> reporter: is the city shelters were overcrowded by the small breed dogs. to free up the much needed space in the
