madness. >> they said lay down on the floor, don't move. turn off all lights. that is what i did and i hit. >> reporter: when we a looked out the window, this resident said, we saw so many security force, police and army we thought it was a war. well, it was a war all right. only this time the french were fighting back. two suspected terrors were killed, seven arrested and men clearly planning additional attacks. >> last night protests were neutralized. >> reporter: given their weapons and determination this commando cell was prepared to act, but it is still unclear if the police and military got who they came for. investigators have reason to believe that this man, abdelhamid abaaood, was in the apartment. they believe he is the mastermind of the attacks against paris last friday. even at this hour it remains unclear if they got him.

for small children to be brought in. is this what he wants to see happen to people, children? we don't accept that here in new york city. >> mayor de blasio is comfortable with refugees settling here in the u.s. because he says the federal government has a very careful vetting process. meanwhile isis is claiming responsibility for a small bomb weighing a little more than two pounds hidden in a soda can that brought down a russian airline last month. abc news contain this had image showing the soda can and a blasting cap and electric initiator. eyewitness news jim hoffer? the newsroom with more. jim? >> in the image of the soda can the message from isis is clear, all it takes is an aluminum can and a few ounces of explosives to bring down the plane of a major power. it could just be isis propaganda or real proof that a crude bomb made out of a soda

embarrassed when classified information leaked that undercover agents were able to sneak fake explosives and weapons past airplane screeners 96% of the time. >> everything had been consistently poor. >> reporter: weeks ago the inspector general told congress of widespread human and technology failures found undercover testing. the report finding in the last six years $540 million spent on checked baggage screening training. despite the investment the report concluded that tsa has not improved checked baggage screening since. >> we did test the imaging machine and we tested it with significant numbers of prohibited items and again, the results were disappointing. >> the tsa says in response to these glaring fail rates they have increased training and stepped up their own threat testing as well as the use of more random checks to detect explosives. back to you.

we want to turn now to local breaking news. we have more where a car was on fire, taken out right now. shannon, this is happening on the georgia washington bridge? >> reporter: yes. this is the outbound upper deck of the new jersey bridge near the new jersey tower. second ago the entire car was ablaze. in fact, we saw it explode into flames as it hit the passenger section of the vehicle. the fire department got on the scene and quickly nut fire out before it reached the trunk of the car. you see them prying the trunk open. what you need to know as you travel through this area, all lanes shut down on the outbound upper deck of the georgia washington bridge. everyone is waiting to get moving. even as you come inbound on the bottom part of the screen a lane is taken out there, as well. everyone stopping to take a look. this is a rough time of night for this to happen. it will be a mess for traffic. hopefully they will get this cleared off of here soon.

washington bridge, eyewitness news. >> thank you, shannon. back to the isis threat and jeb bush saying the u.s. needs to send ground troops to fight isis. he spoke at the citadel in south carolina and says the u.s. needs to increase its presence in the middle east and work with nato and arab partners. the u.s. and allies will not achieve the results we want unless troops are sent in by land. on the democratic side hillary clinton is expected to lay out her plan to combat isis while visiting new york tomorrow. the former secretary of state will outline her standard for combating rat cal jihaddism and the role she feels america should play in supporting its

and take a look at this on west 28th street, the scaffolding stopped. the worksers were not injured but they had to be pulled to safety. no worden what cause the equipment to fail. and another elevator falls in brooklyn at fulton and downing street. the nta worker tumbled eight feet while lowering cable into the vault. it took rescue crews 15 minutes in order to reach him. >> there was an individual working with him. they were lowering cable into a hole, apparently. either he lost his balance lowering the cable and lost his balance and fell head first into the tunnel. >> again, he is doing okay. the worker managed to escape the orlando with just a shoulder -- ordeal with just a shoulder junior. and take a look at this video of a man, a man and 34-year-old man, shot in the utica avenue station.

embryo the 71st precinct. -- block from the 71st precinct. this 24-year-old was taken down by the nypd. >> he stopped right there. he kept right on running. the police were chasing him. >> reporter: investigato rs say an officer from the 71st springtime spotted this white mustang at empire and flagbush in crown heights, brooklyn. hard to miss it because police say he was out of control. >> the mustang proceeds behind him, speeding and driving recklessly in and out of traffic. the officer turns around and begins to follow him. >> reporter: it was during pursuit on empire boulevard witnesses say the mustang was speeding, crossing over to the opposite lane of traffic, crashing into this truck but stopping short of hitting an

>> the bus was making the turn and the call came on that side of the street. >> reporter: police say after the crush the suspect ran a block-and-a-half of brooklyn avenue with this gun in hand. he fell on the ground they say, and still reached for his gun. >> the officer standing a short distance away giving several warnings, warnings which were then heard by at least one eyewitness, don't pick up the gun, don't pick up the gun. the individual does not heed those warnings. the individual a reaches for the weapon and the officer discharges his firearm twice. >> reporter: now, that suspect was struck in the lower abdomen and taken to king's county hospital. at this point the nypd has not released the name of the 24- year-old suspect but they have said he has 15 prior arrest, including manslaughter. reporting live in crown eyewitness news. >> thank you, darla. we will tell you where a

. and we are keeping a close eye on a back up because of a car fire betold you about washington bridge. the fire is out as you can see. we have an update with shannon on the massive delays. it looks like they are about to take the car out of there? >> reporter: i tell you what, what is left of the car is hooked up to a tow truck. look at what this looked like literally a few minutes ago. from beginning to end this took all of 20 minutes but this car was completely ablaze. in fact, as the fire department came up to it it almost seemed to explode into vehicle. what we know at this point this. we want to take you back to our live pictures because still all lanes shut down on the outbound upper deck of the george washington bridge. night. this is the worst time for anything like this to happen.

lane shut down as well but the delays take you back to the bronx. reporting live over the george washington bridge, shannon stone, eyewitness news. >> thank you, shannon. what a mess. if you ask firefighter adam velagos, he would tell you he was just doing his job but last night he rescued a three-week- old baby from an attic of a home engulfed in flame, but for the parent os it have baby, he did more than just his job. we have joe torres with more from manhattan's east side. >> reporter: recovering inside the medical center is the three-week-old baby boy. years from now what a story he will have to tell, a story about a fire inside the family home and the brave firefighter who came to his rescue. as firefighters return to 3440 106th street in coroan in a, one of otheir colleagues

that saved a baby boy last night. >> i don't know if hero is the right word. this is what we are trained to do. i am glad it worked out. >> reporter: hero is exactly the right word, actually. velagos and his firefighter brothers rushed to the brown family home on 106th street corona, discovered a house on fire and parents yelling about a three-week-old newborn trapped in the attic. he entered the home and searched for the narrow staircase leading to the top floor. >> i wound up bumping into the crib. i heard very faint noises. the baby was making very faint noises and i reached in and felt the baby and i just grabbed him and took off. >> when he came out with the baby he was like -- i was so happy because i could not get to him but i didn't have the equipment to get to him.

i was inhaling the smoke and i was on fire. >> reporter: the baby is anita brown's nephew, and now the infant is under the watchful care of the doctors here at the cornell medical center. >> sanjay is fine. he is doing okay. right now they just want to get him to eat. the mom is doing all right. my sister is right besides her baby and they are doing fine. >> reporter: velagos has firefighting in his blood. his uncle is the fire commissioner and his grandfather, years ago, served in the very same firehouse where the lieutenant works today. as for little sanjay, he is recovering. his mother is by her side. she preferred not to talk to reporters today. his aunt who you saw has two words for the fire department and especially the lieutenant, thank you. live on the east side, i am joe torres, channel 7

here in the lower middle 50s. the temperatures will stay this way for much of the night. areas like huntington and west hatch oon the could see big rainfall -- hampton could see big rainfall totals if this front stalls, maybe half an inch or more. poo kipcy is 57. 58 in newark. cloudy skies and comfortable for the first part of the night. nothing more than drizzle and patchy rain for the morning commute. question will see the showers pick up after the morning drive. you can see this expansion of the picture. this is what the radar will look like though back tonight at 11:00. more to the north and west. the storm center is right here. the worst part of the storm that has the snow in the mountains and tornado threats is actually headed up to hudson bay.

band that will swing through the area tomorrow. there may be a rumble of thunder east of new york city. a lot of mild air. ahead of that we will be in the 60s and windy and wet. i will pause this late tonight to early tomorrow morning. the initial front weakens over us and stalls. there may be a heavy burst of rain tomorrow evening in connecticut and long island then it gets kicked out by friday morning. something to watch. 58 degrees, breezy and brighter on friday. tonight spotty drizzle late. 55. 54 and rain tomorrow. wind gusts 25 to 30 miles per hour. tomorrow night rain could get heavy the first part of the night and 53 before it moves out. at 5:30 do we have to talk about 2 inches of rain for connecticut and long island. will it dry out by friday? and how about sunday? more on that and the blustery conditions that will come in the seven-day forecast after 5:30. back to you for now.

terrible about what happened, and who wouldn't. but she says -- >> i am blessed. i am blessed. that is all i can say. god is good. >> reporter: this little 2-year- old amir carter is the mosted a vend rouse toddler in new york, perhaps. here is the window and the steep drop that the boy tumbled three stories straight down from, landing on soft grass in the backyard. then he stood up. >> it is a miracle. i am proud that he is still alive. >> reporter: there was a flimsy screen in the window frame that apparently broke free when he pushed up against it. relatives say his mom and left him alone in the room for no more than a moment. >> we came back, heard a loud thud in the backyard and he was laying there. he got up. he was crying, but he got up and he said he was okay. >> reporter: it looks like he will be okay. he is being treated for a

the man seen flying the drone picked it up after it hit its car and took off. a woman in the hamptons is upset the man she says killed her mother is facing nothing more than a slap on the wrist. the well known cookbook author was popular in her community. her daughter spoke to us today. long island reporter kristen thorn is live in bridgehampton with more. kristen? >> reporter: yes. her mother, anna pump, was in the prime of her elder year, emergencyic, creative and love -- energetic, creative and loved living life everyday. she was hit and killed by a man on the montauk highway driving without a license. that is, in fact, the only thing he is being charged with and now anna kemp says the laws must be changed.

the law must change. >> reporter: yes. her mother was a ball of energy, evens at 81 years old she walked two miles everyday and graciously met guests at her inn in bridgehampton and at the shop next door. >> she loved standing in the store, greeting everyone. >> reporter: on october 5th she was walking in the crosswalk across montauk highway in bridgehampton when she was hit and killed by a car. >> it is pretty terrible. we miss her so much. >> reporter: the driver of that car, louise ortega, was charged were driving without a license, a misdemeanor that only comes with a small fine. >> i think it is not safe, and to have people like that putting themselves behind the wheel of a car without a driver's license, breaking a lot of laws, there should some recourse. this is not right. something must be done. >> reporter: ore day ga was

a family of refugees from syria will start a new life in connecticut after being turned away in indiana. the mother, father and 5-year- old son are now settling into a temporary home in new haven. the governor of indiana is among those as opposed to accepting syrian refugees over fears of terrorism. we have more with governor dan malloy that met with the families today. >> i told them that people in

today kicked off one of the largest thanksgiving turkey collections in our area. that is the federal credit union and island harvest collected more than 1,100 turkeys for the 11th animal turkey drive. people dropped off turkeys all day in bethpage.

hundreds of long island food pantries, just in time for thanksgiving. wow, lots of turkeys there. i love all that good stuff. >> good soup. >> um-hmm. absolutely. >> can't wait. >> yes! looking at the long range there, a couple of things to be concerned about with the big get away day. that looks quiet. i am not worried about big wind it's for the parade. no bitter cold so overall a nice holiday weekend. we are delivering there. but tomorrow not so much. outside we go tonight. the camera bouncing a little bit as the southeast wind picks up. the winds are picking up out of the southeast. southeasterly wind at 6 miles per hour. past the half way point here in november. wanted to keep you post that had we are on pace for the warmest november. 6 degrees above average right now. rainfall is an inch-and-a-half below, but we make up some of that during the day tomorrow. through the evening hour as lot of clouds and very comfortable. the numbers have probably bottomed out.

remainder of the night. in new jersey they are still mild and bumping up a little bit. the first areas of drizzle may sneak into the western suburbs first in places like sparta to orange county, and the hudson valley, then make its way to the coast by morning. so, off and on light rain or drizzle for the morning commute. super might. go with a light rain jacket and don't dress too heavy. it will get hot. temperatures will be in the low and mid 60s and it will be balmy and muggy out. then the rain picks up with the afternoon and evening commute. travel will be slow in the evening hours with heavy pockets of rain. watch the future-cast here, a nice job indicating the drizzle in the northwest suburbs later on tonight. a little more widespread by morning, occasional sprinkles and drizzle. you will need the umbrella and more so through the afternoon as the rain gets steadier from 3:00 on through tomorrow night with heavier pockets of

we are in the 60s. after the heaviest rain shifts east during the evening hours and the radar gets better there may be one more surge of rainfall if the front stalls to the east. that would enhance some of the rainfall amounts over connecticut and long island. i am not sure that will happen just yet but the computer model plane connecticut and long island. we will have to see if that message continues through the evening hours. an inch is a good forecast for the area but there may be heavier amounts east of the city. tomorrow is a soaker. tomorrow it will be drying out very late at night. the cold and wind will be over the great lakes on saturday. sunday an early shower again and gusty winds. i bumped up the temp a little bit because is coldest air is delayed sunday night and monday. 40s sunday, monday and maybe tuesday, as well. might get above 50 that day. get away wednesday 52 degrees,

i think we are similar on thanksgiving even though clouds may try to gather, we will be on the western fringe of the storms. overall a nice, quiet holiday week. >> thanks. the surprisingly easy way that teenagers are ordering alcohol deliveries to their front door without their parents knowing. >> a mother tipped us off to this story after her two teenagers and friends use it. she doesn't want to be identified but wants other parents to be warned. >> here is the story. >> reporter: there it was, vodka delivered right to the door, no questions asked. great, unless your teenagers are doing it. >> it is readily available with a little button on your phone. >> reporter: the same moms us two of her teenagers were ordering alcohol and had it delivered. that begs the question who is responsible for checking i.d.
