developing right now, city swamped. parts of hoboken are underwater because of a massive water main break. a boil water advisory is in effect and a scramble is now underway to repair the damage. and lost at the lake. a desperate search for a missing man after his canoe capsizes. good evening once again, i'm joe torres. >> and i'm sandra bookman. we're going to begin with that huge water main break just across the hudson river. that busted main has turned

streets are swamped and as joe mentioned that boil water advisory is in effect for residents, city wide. even an armored truck had trouble navigating the high water. >> eyewitness news reporter kemberly richardson is in hoboken with the still developing details. kemberly? >> reporter: well, joe and sandra, right now most people here in hoboken do have water again. although again you should boil it for at least a minute until further notice. if you live in a high-rise building, on the top floors, you too should soon have water. i want to show you where that all happened. this is the same spot where the break occurred. where you see all that squishing water. this is sinkhole under there. because of that water tinkerers now in mice at the -- place at the hospital here in hoboken and outside of city hall. but for many businesses favor opened. -- they never opened. >> i thought it was in the restaurant.

took over many streets here in hoboken a break in the 16-inch pipe underground here at the corner of newark and harrison literally stopped this police truck in its path. back inside jack's cabin, no water meant brunch was a bust. >> all my servers and bartenders and hostess, all of them home. >> reporter: around 9:00 this morning, people living here and in parts oviger city noticed a -- jersey city noticed a drop in water pressure or -- >> i was in the shower and all of a sudden water turned off. right in the middle. >> reporter: crews isolated the problem and emergency repair teams got to work. >> thethe break is likely in the metered vault that's on the border of jersey city and hoboken. >> reporter: no water meant there was no way business after business here along washington street could stay open. things were anything but happy here at delight deli where all they could make were sandwiches. >> i lost a lot of today. a lot of business, no people can park. couldn't find anything

anywhere. everything is closed. >> reporter: this black nissan -- >> i had no idea. >> reporter: peter clearly picked a bad corner to park his car at midnight. at hoboken university hospital, officials say it was business as usual this water tanker was in place. outside city hall, this group was happy to find water. >> we live by here. >> are you nervous about this? >> yes. i am. because then do you remember? >> reporter: and at least she's laughing. again, back here live where repair crews will be out here all night hoping to fix this break by 6:00 a.m. tomorrow. until that time, officials are asking you to stay away from this part of hoboken we're in the southern section right near jersey city. also tonight, the businesses that were open and hope to remain open tonight health inspectors are going door to door to make sure everything is okay inside and that they can

kemberly richardson, channel 7 eyewitness news. >> thank you. we stay in new jersey a search is underway right now for a man who vanished after his canoe capsized. police already rescued one man in white meadow lake in rockaway township but the second canoeist still missing. eyewitness news reporter cefaan kim is in rockaway township right now. >> reporter: well, joe if you take a look behind me at white meadow lake you can see rescue teams have left the scene here. you were looking at the one state police rescue boat that had been in the water searching for the men but that seven was called off around 4:00 this afternoon. it's unclear at this point if they will resume that search at sunup tomorrow. but it appears that this has turned from a rescue effort to recovery effort. around 1:30 this afternoon, dive teams pulled out of here and was left here was emergency responders on that one state police boat slowly very slowly searching the lake. it was around 3:00 a.m.

two men in a canoe had capsized in this lake. one man according to him says he managed to swim to shore but was unable to pull himself out of the lake. he was rescued and released. the other man hasn't yet been found and at this point it's been more than 15 hours, the grim reality is tonic lie -- is it's unlike think this will be a happy ending. friends admit in their mind there's little hope for the man that's missing? they spoke with fa you are of the man who was rest -- the father of the man who was rescued. >> he was physically okay and he was mentally you know -- mentally you know, wrecked from it. that's the best friend. >> just a find him. just to get his body out you know. obviously specially for the family. they'd want to know where he is. but we're just going to let the guys do what they do and hopefully find him. >> reporter: now officials have not yet released the names or the ages of those two men. but the friends say they're in their mid 20s and that t

biggest question -- the biggest question of all. what were they doing on the lake at 3:00 a.m.? reporting live, cefaan kim, channel 7 eyewitness news. thank you very much. as memorials grow in paris french authorities are pushing to identify an attacker who died. french national police tweeted out this photo. police say he was one of three attackers outside the national stadium. meanwhile, neighboring belgium is staying on lockdown through at least tomorrow because of a quote serious and imminent threat. the prime minister there says the nation fears an attack similar to the one in paris. that involved several attackers and locations. schools and universities will be closed and the city's subway system is shut down. the manhunt is also growing in belgium for escaped paris killer salah abdeslam. authorities say he fled to belgium they believe, following the attacks in paris. as investigators in europe work to prevent more terror attacks there, security is a

states. hundreds of emergency responders converged on the subway station in manhattan this morning. all as part of an emergency drill designed to deal with a paris-like terrorist attack. eyewitness news reporter darla miles has the story. >> reporter: practice makes perfect. the nypd homeland security, and the fbi, secret service and the fdny all staging this scene of a mass shooting. >> the scenario this morning involved active shooting situations in our subway. to test our response to that. >> reporter: two practice drills, a year in the making. both involved two active shooters on the platform of the bowery street subway station. a test for the nypd transit police who responded first in the first scenario. >> the police department mitigates the terrorists. that act they create a warm zone. in which our firefighters emts can enter. and safely remove patients. >> reporter: in the second

exercise, the newly formed critical response command was first on scene. >> the participants while they have a general idea this is going to be an active shooter, they don't know all the nuances and given the tragic events in paris a little over a week ago, we introduced at the very last- minute one of the individuals a shooter, with a suicide vest. >> every member of the nypd is fully equipped with all of their counterterrorism gear but if you look at the blue and black guns, those are fake. >> would be of the things you see when you look at these exercises, is you see more coordination, more teamwork than ever before between nypd and fdny. >> you see a lot of the participants running around with the equivalent of go pro cameras. additionally the subway station was wired with over 40 cameras to allow us to monitor the scenario as it was occurring. >> reporter: a 360-degree view of how local and federal law enforcement responds to a terror threat. a scenario all hope doesn't

play out in real life anytime soon. >> we know of no specific credible threat of a paris-like u.s. homeland. we are and we continue to be and we have been, concerned about copycat-like attacks. >> reporter: on the lower east eyewitness news. a symbol of hope after 9/11 provided hope after the recent terror attacks overseas. [ bell dinging ] it's the bell of hope. in lower manhattan. it was rung this morning to honor the victims in mali, paris and beirut. the city of london gave that 9/11 attacks. it's in the st. paul chapel churchyard and rung every september 11th. we are not enemies, that was the message sounded by jewish and muslim leaders here in new york today in the wake of the paris attacks.

together for the good of both communities. they also say that they are standing against what they call increasing expressions of islamophobia and anti-semitism and other bigotry. a flight diverted because of unruly passengers today. the southwest airlines plane was heading from indianapolis to los angeles when the airline says that three men began acting suspiciously. the crew became worried enough to divert the flight to kansas city. everyone got off the plane when it landed and the men were pulled aside for questioning. the flight eventual little continued without them. no charges were filed and the men were booked on later flights. a call to action on a grim anniversary. coming up on eyewitness news activists here in new york and across the country are demanding justice one year after a boy in cleveland was killed by police.

robbery. authorities in new orleans say 21-year-old uric cane was the one caught on camera shooting peter gold in the stomach. gold had stopped his car to help a woman cane was dragging down a street on friday. security cameras showed the suspect attempting to shoot gold a second time. but the gun jammed. and does not fire. gold was taken to the hospital. he is expected to survive. records reportedly showed that 2,000 people on the no-fly list have legally bought guns or explosives -- the senator charles schumer says he wants that to stop. schumer is renewing the push for the denying firearms and explosives to dangerous terrorists act of 2015. it would give the justice department authority to stop a known or suspected terrorist from buying guns or explosives. >> we have to change this law. no fly, should mean no buy for

the giants will return to work tomorrow as their bye weekends and then it's time to really get to work with six games left in the regular season. and today, a chance for a couple of nfc east teams to join them at the top of the division including the eagles who hosted the buffs. things didn't go well for philly. jameis winston, he threw five touchdowns that one to charles sims. as for mark sanchez a pretty rough go. two touchdowns but three interceptions. that one a pick 6 for adams, 45- 17 the eagles fall. they are now 4-6. and tony romo is back. making his return for dallas in miami after struggling early got himself back on track. the passes to terrence williams for the score. the dolphins though would tie it. romo getting the lead back without dez bryant. 16 yards. it's their 50th touchdown connection. 24-14 the cowboys snap their seven game skid. they are now 3-7. and finally, washington visiting carolina. what a day for cam newton.
