stop them from serving customers as they hauled in port-a-potties. hoboken woke up to empty faucets and flooded streets when a large water main, which feeds the entire city, broke. >> 8:30 i was in the shower and all of a sudden the water turned off, right in the middle. >> reporter: water trucks were brought in. businesses lost a busy day of sales, as water crews worked to fix the problem. by night fall, service was restored to most of the area, but caution remains. >> it is important to residents in hoboken throughout the city, continue or boil water for at least one minute for con sump tiff purposes. that would be for drinking, baking, taking medication. >> i'm really upset we missed out on brunch this morning. i'm glad we're finally open now, letting people in. it was hard to turn away all of those people this morning. phones are ringing off the hook. >> hoping it gets back to normal pretty soon. >> reporter: some of the apartments on higher floors may still be experiencing water

problems. we're told crews are working to restore service as quickly as possible. meanwhile, the boil water advisory remains in effect until samples come back showing the water is safe enough to drink again. live in hoboken, lucy yang, channel 7 eyewitness news. >> okay, thank you, lucy. new at 11:00, an armed robber on the run. he tied up his victims. police in suffolk county say a masked man held up the pier 1 imports in huntington station and restrained people in the store. he got away with an unknown amount of money. air and k-9 units are looking for the man. there are no reports of any injuries. and morris county, middle of the night canoeing ends with one of two men missing. police responded to 911 calls about an overturned canoe in white meadow lake about 3:00 a.m. they pulled one man from the lake and began searching for the other. they searched for hours, but have not found him. we're going to hear from friends of both men in our next

new at 11:00, raids and arrests tonight in belgium. in a massive security sweep, police carried out 22 raids, 19 near brussels and three in other cities, 16 people arrested. no firearms or explosives were found during the raids. brussels will remain on lockdown through tomorrow, with troops patrolling the city. schools, malls, the subway will remain shut down over what the prime minister called a serious and imminent threat. not among those arrested tonight, salah abdelsalam, the last surviving suspect of the paris attacks. he's believed to be hiding out in brussels. today, his brother says the family hopes to see him end up in a jail rather than dead. and french police released photos of another attacker in paris. they hope to identify this man, who they say was one of the three who blew himself up outside the stadium. during a conference in malaysia, president obama

people in this area tell us donald trump is painting a picture of something that just didn't happen. and tonight, they are speaking out. members of the muslim community in jersey city say they shed tears with new york on 9 1. >> i used to live across the river from world trade center and me and my wife were crying like crazy, like it was our own coming down. >> reporter: their responding as donald trump is standing by his accusation that members of the muslim community in jersey city celebrated the tragedy. >> i watched when the world trade center came tumbling down, and i watched in jersey city, new jersey where thousands and thousands of people were cheering as that building was coming down. >> reporter: when abc's george stephanopolis challenged the

statement, mentioning it's a universally discredited internet rumor, he did not back down. >> please say it didn't happen. >> there were people that were cheering on the other side of new jersey. >> just using this as a ladder to get to what he wants. >> reporter: this man has a message for the candidate. >> i would say to him he doesn't know what islam is and he doesn't know muslims and this is really a cheap trick that he's using to gain publicity. >> reporter: the mayor of jersey city calls trump's statements absurd. >> i think it's shameful that he's politicizing 9/11. jersey city has no interest in being a part of it. so from our standpoint, you know, you really got to question where he's coming from, from a credibility standpoint. >> reporter: others who live in jersey city are reacting as well. >> i think he's a moron. a scare in the air and a flight diverted because of unruly passengers. the southwest airlines plane was heading from indianapolis to los angeles, when the airline says three men began acting suspiciously. the worried crew diverted the flight to kansas city. everyone got off the plane when it landed and authorities pulled the men aside for questioning. the flight eventually continued without the men. no charges were filed and they were booked on later flights. it's a war of words across the hudson. new jersey governor chris christie is firing back at new york mayor bill de blasio on national television. de blasio said chris christie's decision to stop taking in syrian refugees was inhumane. >> the mayor should worry more about getting something done in the city of new york to make it about criticizing anybody else. quite frankly, given the way he's talking and not worried about the security and the safety of the people of new york, maybe he of damascus.

windchills, right now around zero degrees. travel by air, also slow going. more than 1000 flights were canceled at chicago area airports. police identified the suspected gunmen accused of shooting a medical student who intervened during a robbery. authorities in new orleans say 21-year-old urich cain was the one caught on camera shooting peter gold in the stomach. investigators say gold stopped his car to help a woman cain was dragging down the street on friday. security cameras show the suspect attempting to shoot gold a second time, but the gun jammed and did not fire. the shooter stole the woman's purse and ran away. gold is recovering in a new orleans hospital. in the bronx, a search for a robber who hit a kennedy fried chicken restaurant on east tremont. investigators just released images from last thursday's robbery. the robber hopped the counter, pulled a knife and got away with $300 from the register. no one was hurt.

york city council looks at and commercial drones. the public safety and transportation committees will hold a joint hearing on bills aimed at regulating drone use in the five boroughs. in september, a drone crashed open. officials worry about more more popular. a warning tonight for anyone renting a car for holiday travel this year. in a new report, new york city controller scott stringer says car rental companies are charging customers excessive convenience fees to use an ez pass. as a result, customers are paying two to three times more than other drivers. for example, a four-day trip from brooklyn to schenectady costs $22.77. but rental car customers pay anywhere from $41 to nearly $86. stringer is calling for

degrees. we head out right now and check out the view over toward midtown, camera shaking a little bit at times. we have a wind coming in from the north about 9 miles per hour, but it's been gusting up times. temperature at the lowest level about 44. 55, by the way, was just after midnight last night. so in general today, temperature trend has been downward with that wind main ly coming in from the northerly and northwesterly direction. the average high this time of year, around 52. we weren't too far from that during the daylight hours. 72 was the record in 1971. sun coming up tomorrow around 6:51 tomorrow morning. we did receive 0.03-inch last night after a weak front moved by. more significant rainfall over long island during the day today with a coastal system that came close enough. brisk and chilly through tomorrow.

we warm up gradually through the week. this is the most important part. terrific travel weather for the big travel day on wednesday, for thanksgiving day and beyond for everyone traveling back home heading into next weekend. really no weather worries. there could be a little bit of rain late friday night and early into saturday morning. other than that, clear sailing. 30 at monticello. 39 at newberg and morristown. mid-40s onto parts of long island. radar and satellite showing that storm system moving far enough onshore we didn't get the rainfall from the city, but did get rain over eastern parts of long island for a time. that's movinoug t, giving way to the air moving in overnight tonight. coldest air of the season so far, matter of fact. we're down to 36 in the park, 20s north and west of the city. highs tomorrow only getting up to 44 despite sunshine. pair of fours tomorrow. we warm up a little bit on tuesday, mostly sunny, 47. as this high moves offshore, we get behind it and the return

top stories. water pressure has been restored for most of hoboken after a massive water main break. utility crews will work through the night to repair the line, but several streets will remain closed tomorrow afternoon. a boil water alert is in effect. police in belgium have arrested 16 people tonight in a massive security sweep. the arrests were made during 22 different raids carried out in brussels and other cities, as authorities there try to prevent another terror attack. people in jersey city call donald trump's latest controversial comments a shameful publicity stunt. today, trump said he saw thousands of people cheering after the 9/11 attacks. topping our news this half hour, a search called off tonight for a man who disappeared in a lake in new jersey. >> the man and his friend were canoeing earlier this morning when their boat capsized, but only one man could make it back to shore.

lake in rockaway township. stephan kim has the story. >> obviously for his family, they would want to know. >> reporter: the grim news is settling in. george realizes it's unlikely this will have a happy ending. 3:00 a.m. sunday, two men were in white meadow lake and their canoe capsized. one was rescued and rushed to a hospital. colin stone is a friend of the man, now home resting, but devastated his canoeing partner is still missing. >> he said he was physically okay. he said he was mentally wrecked from it. that was his best friend. >> reporter: kelsey gonzalez says it was one of her friends who heard a strange noise in the middle of the night. after 20 minutes, she realized something had gone terribly wrong. >> he was in the woods screaming, crying for help at, like, 3:30 in the morning. my friend heard him screaming, so she called the cops. >> reporter: rescue teams showed up right away and found

one man almost immediately. he was able to swim to shore, but unable to pull himself out of the water. after hours of searching for the second man, around 1:30 in the afternoon, dive teams pulled back, leaving only one rescue boat out on the water, slowly circling the lake, clear indications this rescue effort had turned into a recovery effort. by early evening, the search was called off, unclear if it will resume in the morning. officials have not released names or ages of the two men. but according to friends, they are in their twenties. >> definitely a shock. we've never had something like that happen around here. >> reporter: we still do not know what were the two men doing out on the lake at 3:00 a.m. at white meadow lake, stephan kim, channel 7 eyewitness news. new tonight, a harrowing bust at a haslet, new jersey hotel. police responded to the holiday inn because of a sick child on thursday. as they helped the child in a room, officers spotted heroin. investigators found nearly 1000 packets of the drug. police arrested the woman who

rented the room and charged her with drugs and endangering the welfare of a child. as investigators in europe work to prevent terror attacks there, security is a big concern here in the states. hundreds of emergency responders converged on a subway station in manhattan this morning, as part of an emergency drill designed to deal with a paris-like terrorist attack. eyewitness news reporter darla miles has the story. practice makes perfect. >> reporter: the fbi, secret service and the fdny all staged a scene of a mass shooting. >> the scenario this morning involved active shooting situations in our subway to test response to that. >> reporter: two practice drills, a year in the making. both involved two active shooters on the platform of the bowery street subway station, a test for the nypd transit police, who responded first in the first scenario. >> the police department
