in a sort of swaddling clothes it we were able to bring it in to cleaner towels, new towels, warm towels so that it would be warm. the baby was still umbilical cord connected. so it was truly a newborn baby. >> the baby was then taken to jamaica hospital where he has since been recovering. we're told surveillance video did capture some of this and police would like to catch up with the mother. not so much from a law enforcement perspective but they want to make sure she's okay. under the safe haven act, a baby can be abandoned inside a church. a church is one of the places that a mother can leave her baby. once again, this custodian hears the baby crying. he's setting up this nativity scene. a little too early for the pastor's liking. but in fact it was a miracle because the pastor had forgotten to tell him to take it down. we're also

has already come forward because they would love to adopt this newborn baby boy. stacey sager, channel 7 eyewitness news. tyrone howard, the accused killer of a new york cop tonight indicted for that murder. a career criminal now charged with murder, robbery, and criminal possession of a weapon. police say he shot and killed detective randolph holder in east harlem last month. a u.s. postal service worker facing hate crime charges tonight for allegedly harassing muslims in brooklyn. police say 34-year-old coley seen in this surveillance video. two sisters say he insulted at them, swore at them and swit at them. postal service police helped detectives identify him. it might be the safest place to be in new york city on thanksgiving, that according to authorities. a big parade perhaps with some of the most intense security since the

terror attacks since 9/11. local and federal authorities insisting there are no known threats. still the beefed up security will be palpable. eyewitness news reporter tim fleischer with the story. he's at columbus circle for us. >> come thursday morning, this place, columbus circle and the entire parade route down 6th avenue is going to be crammed with people and with it a lot of new security layers. >> reporter: utilizing more police officers than ever before, along the two and a half miles of the macy's thanksgiving day parade route, the nypd is confident people will be safe. >> we're very comfortable that we are able to secure it as we there is the parade, credible threat. >> reporter: now in the aftermath of the paris attacks there are new levels of security. >> this will include extra uniform police officers and traffic agents plus additional mobile cameras, helicopters, k-9 and mounted units.

dogs will be used to find explosives. for the first time -- >> our force will be supplemented by approximately 200 freshly trained armed critical response cops working along with our police officers from the strategic response group. >> reporter: large bleachers are lining the parade route and record crowds are expected because the weather is expected to be warmer than normal. starting wednesday at 11:30 they'll begin inflaitding the yinet parade balloons, 17 in all. parents are encouraged to breed children and family members. it will feature 27 floats, 13 marching bands and 8,000 total marchers. urging people to be vigilant but not fearful, the nypd wants people to enjoy the parade and go on with their normal routine. officials are confident the city is safe. commissioner william bratton spoke of the challenges the nypd faces now. >> we have prepared to protect this city. we've prepared to

protect our officers and members of the department. we've prepared to protect the public. >> that higher level of security, mr. bratton says, will carry through the holidays. reporting live at columbus circle, tim fleischer, channel 7 eyewitness news. a show of solidarity by president obama and french president francois hollande today. the two leaders stood united during a meeting at the white house. president hollande pledged his country will receive even more refugees from iraq and syria and president obama pledged support on the fight against isis and made another appeal on behalf of the refugees. >> the statue of liberty, a gift from the people of france. words we know so well. give me your tired, your poor, your huddled masses yearning to be friend. -- yearning to be free. >> o -- hollande is pushing for the closing of the border between turkey and syria.

the fate of two russian military pilots unclear tonight. their fighter plane shot down by turkey for violating turkish air space. russia claims the plane did not cross in to turkey from flying from syria. turkey says it gave the pilots 10 warnings before firing. one one killed by ground fire. russian president putin is warning turkey of, quoting now, serious consequences. good news for people living in hoboken. a boil water advisory has been lifted but work continues main and a valve that left some areas without any water at all. anthony johnson is in hoboken tonight with an update. >> you can see right behind me the road is a lot cleaner and a lot clearer than it was last night. the water in this area certainly has gone down. what they actually did, hoboken is

now tied in. most of the water has been restored. about a mile away from the scene over in jersey city, they still have a serious problem. >> reporter: residents are filling buckets of water to take to apartments on the higher floors to cook, flush toilets and drink at the newport center high rise. the faucets on the upper floors are still bone dry. many high rises in this part of jersey city still have low pressure, discolored water or nothing at all. >> even now everybody keeps asking each other what's the status, when are we going to get water and we don't know. >> reporter: anyone living above the third floor is still without water. building management has purchased gallons of water for residents and they're trying to keep everyone happy. >> this is a time of this is a time for us to band together and make the best of it. >> reporter: suez water, once called united water, is working on a fix for the main break

which happened sunday. >> we're going very systemically, prag matically. these are very old valves. >> reporter: businesses say they've lost thousands from the water main break and street flooding. jack's cabin lost customers because there was nowhere to park on water filled roads so they hope the day before thanksgiving will make up the losses. >> thanksgiving eve is typically larger than new year's eve so we have a dj that night. we have specials throughout the day. so we're looking to typically -- that's a very large day for us. >> the best case scenario, suez water says they hope to get everything fixed, maybe by tomorrow night. although it looks like it will still be sometime after thanksgiving. that is the latest live from hoboken, anthony johnson, channel 7 eyewitness news. now to the deadly crash involving a stolen van. police say two young people in that van just 14 and 16 years old. they

and a woman driving home from work was killed. the question now, did a police pursuit of that stolen van play a role in this deadly accident? eyewitness news reporter marcus solis is there with the latest. >> police say those teens had been spotted breaking in to parking meters and that they were riding around in a stolen van but yes, there is an investigation underway after that crash that left those teens critically injured and an innocent woman dead. >> today has been an extremely from cliff manor. member of the family today. >> reporter: a school community in mourning over the death of a valued teacher killed on her way raising questions. aftermath. the van that plowed in to sharlene stinson's car. inside, two teenagers who had they're in critical condition. >> it's just situation. >> reporter: the accident

happened on warburton avenue in yonkers. this is surveillance video obtained exclusively by eyewitness news. the van with stripes can be seen going through a red light. seconds later a police cruiser comes in to view. police say the van had been stolen and the suspects had been seen trying to break in to parking meters. officers tried to pull over the vehicle with a 16-year-old male and 14-year-old female inside but the van would not stop. police say it's too early to know how fast the vehicles had been traveling and whether the chase should have been called off. >> we're going to do the investigation and we're going to see what are the circumstances that surrounded this. again, we have one dead woman. >> reporter: the victim's relatives didn't want to speak on camera but stressed stinson was an innocent victim. she leaves behind a young son and devastated coworkers. >> fantastic educator. someone that always put the children first and their needs first and

hangers had to keep company with symbols of hate from world war ii during their commute to and from times square. >> pretty upsetting. >> disgusting. >> reporter: the images were supposed to stay up until december 14th but amazon tv yanked the ads for the show "the man in the high castle" after some commuters saw them and had to blink twice. >> we're living in a time now when you see those images, it could mean any number of things. >> reporter: one of the biggest complaints about the ads is commuters would come in and sit on the seats which had the nazi symbol on it and they would not immediately associate it with the posters on the wall. >> there's lots of ads that talk about world war ii and the holocaust and other things but there's usually a context put around them. the difference here was when people walk in to that subway car, they don't have a context. they just see this image. >> reporter: the mta said the

it's just kind of nice knowing this cold weather is not going to last. >> last year, i don't know if you remember, we have a trace of snow on thanksgiving. 38 degrees. inch and a quarter and travel wednesday. it's incredible. >> not this time. >> not at all. so gorgeous out there once we get past this chill which really the coldness has passed, still a cold night,

and we start to recover tomorrow. outside tonight we go where there's a few more people on the sidewalks on the streets. what i saw, it's good to see you. we'll see you again at 11:00. our temperature is at 45 degrees. 42% humidity. west wind at 12 miles per hour. this is how sade looks right now. 45 degrees. 42% humidity. west r lae erly -- westerly wind at 12. pressure is now on the rise. there are your sunrise and sunset times. still chilly tonight. twepts in the coldest spots and then it's just tranquil travel weather tomorrow. seasonal sunshine after the chilly start. low 50s and lots of sun. it is milder but a lot more cloudiness on thanksgiving. i'm a little concerned it might be a touch of spotty drizzle. no question after that it's really warm on friday in the upper 60s. look at the lows this morning. teens and 20s.

the first freeze in new york city pretty much on time and a decent recovery. in the mid 30s to mid 40s. a chilly night but at least very light wind. mainly clear. mostly sunny during the day and highs will reach around 50, 52 degrees during the afternoon and a couple clouds earlier in the day. there are a few more off to the west that are spilling in. that's temporary. high pressure is here in the tennessee valley. on the western side of that high, look at the numbers here. in the mid 60s. that will replace all our chill which is already starting to retreat. one thing we're noticing is there's a storm coming out of the rockies here. for travel wednesday, the one place going to have delays will be the rockies and parts of the west. also showers developing. parts of texas in the upper midwest as well. things do deteriorate in the middle of the country if you're planning on thanksgiving travel. for us we're really fine even through friday. it's this narrow strip of showers that may get here by saturday in a weakened fashion while a wintery mix is going on from denver down to dallas.

for us it's tranquil travel tomorrow. sunshine, 52 degrees after the chilly start. feels great. but look how the futurecast is doing, doing a nice job on picking up some of those low clouds. i think we're going to cloud over. mostly clear, chilly. near 30s in the suburbs. 37. tomorrow is 52. chilly start, sunny and nice. 45. on the 7-day accuweather forecast, the parade forecast, at the very least would have added more cloud cover. we'll see. it will be mild no matter what and it will be fine walking around the west side. will be great on friday. 64. maybe even 68 degrees. >> just don't walk in front of the weather camera. >> you guys planned it. rob is up next with sports. >> real cool stuff here. 17 americans recognized

medal of honor time. >> willie mays, yogi berra. >> long time coming for both of them. highest civilian honor, 17 americans recognized this afternoon at the white house by president obama, politicians, entertainers, activists and baseball royalty. the presidential medal of freedom, late yogi berra was honored today. his son larry in washington. yogi died in september at the age of 90. an all time yankee great. 10 world series titles. one of a kind.

willie mays honored today as well. started his career with the new york giants. 1951. wrapped things up with the mets in '73. 24 all star games. 660 home runs . two of baseball's all time greats. giants get back to work this week. eagles, redskins both lost sunday. that helps out big blue. you know what else would help this week? a good pass rush against washington. giants beat them in week 3 by 11 points. jason pierre paul is back now. he can be a big reason the giants stay in first place. >> coming off the bye week, we played last week passed us now we're just studying for washington. we know what kind of team we have here and we're going to keep fighting. nets in oklahoma city. knicks in or lando. the knicks laid an egg last night in miami. lost 95-78, shot 32% in the game. had a four-game win streak snapped.

hadn't trailed in double digits in their last eight games. rookie chrisops porzingis missed 11 of his 18 shots but finished with 20 points and 14 rebounds. how's this for an early season college basketball game? st. john's and indiana. even better, they played hawaii. day 2 of the maui invitational. red storm fell behind again early. thomas brian for the hoosiers. federico scored 17. indiana pulled away. st. john's loses 83-73. the red storm will now play in a seventh place game tomorrow. tuesday generally a day off for nfl players but laura behnke found some of the players on and doing big things. >> willie colon returning to his old neighborhood each holiday for a turkey giveaway.
