lot less expensive than last year. >> all heightened security at the night's airports -- nation's airports and airlines expecting 65,000 more passengers each day than last year. hit the roads and airport in just a minute but we're going to begin with meteorologist bill evans and the holiday accuweather forecast. bill? >> well, david and shirleen, hello everyone, happy thanksgiving. that really tells the story, we have some absolute gorgeous here here at -- weather here at noontime. marry a cloud in the sky. the temperature is 47 degrees. pretty much close to where the temperature should be for this hour of the day for this time ridgewood queens. 50 cambria heights and 48 newark. the numbers are going to be very nice, we have just a light wind to a calm wind today. lots of sunshine. beautiful weather all the way back to the great lakes if you are traveling today, your trouble spots are going to be here in the rocky mountain states up into the northern rockies and divide up into the northern plains. with the snowstorm there. we are looking at great weather for getting away today or coming into the city.

and prepared for whatever comes their way. >> i'm not really nervous about it. it's so many flights. it's kind of like -- why would you worry about all of them? >> reporter: this thanksgiving holiday travel period, experts say more than 25 million people will board u.s. airiers -- carriers despite there being a worldwide travel alert in place warning the threat of terrorism is real. >> we don't even think about those things. like i travel every week, if you think about that you kind of freeze. >> reporter: something many here at laguardia simply will not let happen. there is a visible security presence by mid-morning. the sunrise rush to catch a flight had settled down. the longest line we spotted was at security. officials warn things will run slower here as tsa agents meticulously look over all bags. experts say in particular, looking at liquids since those claiming to have taken down a russian airplane killing 224

to hit the roads for the holiday. a lot of those people of course stopping here at this location just to take a little rest. possibly even to get some gasoline before they continue on their way. so far, no traffic problems to report in this area. especially no major traffic problems to report in this area. and most people we talked to are giving traveling so far this morning a thumbs up. what's the old expression? the early bird gets the worm? well with driving on this busy travel day, motorists who left before sunrise are rolling along pretty well. >> we didn't start running into traffic until we got kind of down here, the signs out on the highway are really, really helpful in terms of letting you know what's going on. >> we left early. that's the key. beat the traffic. >> reporter: drivers aren't getting a big break on gas prices this year. >> this thing used to take $60, now it's down to like $36. >> wow. >> reporter: according to aaa new jersey, today's national

average price for a gallon of regular gasoline is $2.14. that's 74 cents less than the average price on thanksgiving last year. when it was $2.88. in new jersey today's average price is $1.98. 76 cents lower than thanksgiving 2014. so what does it mean when prices are that low? >> oh man, i put $30 in this joint and it fills up. my wife is like that ain't going to be enough. but i got the concept of 15 gallons, i get it. >> reporter: so far things are moving along well. the weather and the metro area is ideal so road conditions are smooth. for now, it's full speed ahead. >> it's been -- it's actually been good, we haven't hit too much traffic. and we just had a couple of crying babies but besides that it's been fun. >> reporter: and she's dealing with that. but there's still traveling on and you are looking at the western spur of the new jersey turnpike. that's heading northbound towards the george washington bridge. and you can see that traffic in both directions north and

new information about the mother who police say left her newborn baby at a church nativity scene in queens. investigators say that mother may be charged. eyewitness news reporter kristin thorne is live in richmond hill outside the church. kristin? >> reporter: well, shirleen, that's because holy child jesus church here is a safe haven. but under new york state law, an abandoned child must be physically handed over to a person at the safe haven and simply that's not what happened here. this is surveillance video we just got into eyewitness news. it was taken from a 99-cent store up the block from this church. it shows a woman buying a

towel. the manager there told me that this woman bought a towel and police are very interested in speaking with this woman to see if she is the person who left this child behind. meanwhile, i spoke with two parishioners who were two of the first to respond to this child. they're just glad everything turned out okay. we're now hearing from the woman in this picture, regina san toro. she's a parishioner at the church and was in the reactsry office when the custodian called frantically. having just found the baby boy lying in the nativity scene inside the church. >> we went over there and there was just a leg like out of the towel. and he -- the baby had some blood on him. and at that point, we really didn't know what was going on. and i just picked up the towel and you know, opened up the towel. and his little face was there and he started to move around. >> reporter: she called for geraldine walsh. the school nurse at holy child

>> we assessed the baby respiratory-wise, he was fine, he was breathing okay and he was fine and he was moving so i just tied knot in the umbilical cord and we wrapped him up and kept him comfortable until the ambulance came. >> reporter: meanwhile, parishioners here are calling this a little miracle. >> i think it's the baby was meant to be left there. we have a fantastic family in the community of holy child. >> reporter: the baby is fine. he is in good health at jamaica hospital. now under the custody of the administration for children's services. live in richmond hill, queens, i'm kristin thorne, channel 7 eyewitness news. >> thank you kristin. that's one of the stories that touched so many people.

the custodian found the baypy in the church's nativity manger yesterday and hello fen, i'm david novarro -- again, i'm david novarro. >> and i'm shirleen allicot. all new this half hour we are learning new details about the who woman shot -- two women shot in a car in new jersey. >> new jersey reporter toni yates live in linden with the toni? >> reporter: yes, and we are starting with the best update possible. when you're talking about a tragedy like this. the doctors at university hospital in newark say that mother who was shot several times, she is going to live. now this was the scene last night 7:30 after the 41-year- old injured mother was able to drive two blocks away from the gunman and she crashed her toyota camry into the fence and a utility pole but her get away daughter's lives. linden police say the gunman approached the mother and the daughter outside of their home. >> they were leaving their house. they were going to a sporting event. and the mother got in the car

and the daughter was getting into the passenger's side of the car when she observed a man approaching her. apparently words were exchanged between the man and the younger girl. and the mother became concerned and told the daughter to get in the car. once the daughter got in the car, and they were starting to pull out of the driveway, the man then drew a firearm, a handgun, and walked around to the front of the car and proceeded to fire multiple gunshot wounds -- gunshots at the car. >> reporter: now, captain says that police do believe that the mother or the daughter were the intended target of the gunman. why they are still trying to figure that out and they are questioning the daughter right now and they have not been able to question the mother because she has been in surgery. they also of course want to find out who this man is. there's a $10,000 reward for information leading to his capture. for now we're live here in linden, toni yates, channel 7 eyewitness news. thank you. jury deliberations have wrapped up for the day in the

corruption trial involving former new york state assembly speaker sheldon silver, jurors worked through the morning before adjourning for the long holiday weekend. prosecutors say silver collected nearly $4 million in illicit fees and exchange for official favors to real estate developers and others. deliberations will resume on monday. a new at noon, police shot a man in the leg while serving a search warrant in brooklyn this morning. the police were searching for firearms in a house on pine street in east new york at about 7:30 a.m.. in the basement, they encountered a man who lived there and during the confrontation a detective ended up discharging one round and hit the man's right calf. the nypd says the man is in stable condition at the hospital. hoboken's water woes may be coming to an end today. crews are installing new valve at this hour to fully restore service. a massive water main break on sunday cut the water supply and prompted a boil water advisory. the city was able to receive some water from the weehawken

the new valve could be in place as soon as this afternoon. well, a russian airman who has survived the downing of his war plane says the turkish jets did not issue any warnings. the navigator also told russian television that his plane was flying over syrian territory and did not violate turkish air space. russian special forces rescued one of the pilots after a turkish missile brought down the war plane for they say violating their air space. a group of police officers are under investigation following a bar brawl in brooklyn. a fight broke out between customers and sunset park and officers subdued one of the men who was pushed out of the bar. the bar's owner's son kevin cuzco says the officers were being too violent so he spoke up. moments later he was pushed back in the car and bake -- bar and taken down by police. >> i'm on the floor and my hands and knees on the floor and from there, he has me with the flap jack. i seen blood and i'm like all right. you know.

from more than a year ago. the mayor and police superintendent now calling for calm as the chicago police officer now faces charges in that shooting. abc's elizabeth hur has the story. >> reporter: david and shirleen, good afternoon to you. that officer is now in jail being held without bond. as for that video, it is being made public now because a judge ordered it to be released. this is the dashcam video the victim's family didn't want you to see. it is graphic and shows the moment chicago police officer jason van dyke opened fire on 17-year-old laquan mcdonald. we will freeze the rid owe here but after mcdonald collapses shooting. 16 bullets in 15 seconds. it is chilling. >> reporter: a court order led to the release of the video and despite the mcdonald family calling for calm -- overnight, hundreds of protesters voiced their anger shutting down traffic and confronting police.

[ chanting ] it was on the night of october 20th, 2014 at 9:47. police responded to a call of a suspect with a knife breaking into cars and walking in the street. in just ten minutes after police spotted mcdonald, authorities say officer van dyke began shooting. the video shows another officer kicking a knife away from mcdonald's body but investigators say mcdonald officers. just yesterday, van dyke was charged with first degree murder for now his attorney not answering any questions. only telling reporters this -- >> this is not a murder case. courtroom. >> reporter: van dyke's attorney is arguing the officer feared for his life. the city in the meantime has reached a $5 million settlement with the mcdonald family. eyewitness news. meanwhile, the families of nypd officers who were murdered over the past year will comfort thanksgiving meal.

on this getaway wednesday. either coming into the city or getting away. or -- driving. air land or sea. either way you go it's going to be really nice travel weather. we are looking at temperatures that are close to normal. 47 degrees the humidity 41% the winds are northeast at 5 the pressure way up there. now normal high pressure over us or normal pressure for fair weather is about 30.00. so look at that we're almost up to 30.8. yesterday's high was 46 and a little warmer today and it's already warmer right around brookhaven and babylon. and over to oyster bay and then you go down to the south shore here right around hempstead hampton. and without the wind, you know, the sun is weak this time of northeast wind. feels nice. so we have this high pressure ridge that will slide eastward and makes for some great weather really all the way to the great lakes and the plains and eventually the high kind of slides eastward. so our tranquil day today becomes a warmer day tomorrow the atlantic. it makes it milder on

a few clouds on thanksgiving day as well. as you carve up the turkey on thanksgiving. 9:00 tomorrow morning with the parade, 50 degrees. 57 by afternoon. this afternoon, we're at 52. tonight is a great night, 35 in the suburbs and 43 around the five boroughs and then we're looking at sun and clouds a milder day tomorrow. 50 at the start of the parade. and getting close to 60 in the afternoon. your accuweather seven day forecast. friday, if you are doing that shopping thing, it is going to be wonderful. you can wear almost a t-shirt and go shopping on friday. couple of showers saturday morning with a front. then we're sunshine and 52 saturday. and then you see we've got clouds and sun and a little cooler on sunday. sunday night 7:30 as i said the red bullsplay and they're playing the team from south carolina. that'd be the columbus crew. from south carolina. so -- be some good weather sunday night for that. then next week we warm back up into the low 50s. no harsh cold on the horizon anytime soon. happy thanksgiving.

well, it is time for the feed. and here's a story that will certainly reassure you and your faith and your fellow man. this a picture right now is tony. every day this 50-year-old rides a bicycle to his job in white lake, michigan seven miles a i way. snow, wind, rain. he makes the trip because he can't afford a car. most of the money he makes the local supermarket goes to caring for his sick wife. a motorist spotted him making his trip in the snow and offered him a ride and after hearing the story the good samaritan said he would drive him anytime he needed and then and then, this is the best part. started to go fund me campaign online to help buy the man a van. so far the good samaritan raised more than $18,000 and is going up enough. >> imagine trying to ride a bike in the snow. >> do what you got to do. >> thank goodness for good people like that. >> you can get a good car. >> exactly. you have a good story for us. well the man who praised patti labelle's pie is -- he's going to her house for thanksgiving. >> oh. >> james wright's singing pie
