facing serious charges after police say he abducted his child and stabbed the child's mother. >> police arrested the suspect after a traffic stop in new jersey. police issued an amber alert only hours earlier and now we have learned that he is a former police officer. we are live in paterson with more. >> reporter: well, we did get a chance to talk to an attorney that had represented the suspect a few years back a little earlier this morning. he says his former client is here at the county jail. and now we are anticipating an extradition hearing to send him back to new york, possibly as early as this afternoon. overnight, the suspect was moved back and forth from the new jersey state police police department in bloomfield. he had to return as paper work was completed on the 47-year- old suspect. as for his 3-year-old daughter,

members in bronx after last evening in the trooper d department. >> we did stop the traffic before the incident was supposed to happen just in case it went wrong but thank god it didn't go wrong. it was a high-risk stop. and just thank god that he went willingly, he didn't put up a fight. >> reporter: eyewitnesses gathered some details. he was a former cop where he had another family and other children that are now adults. he left the police force after being accused of assaulting a cabbie while working off-duty at a yard in 2002. his attorney says he was charged with filing a fake police report. in 2007, those charges were dropped and his pension was restored. his latest job was working as a motorman for the mta since 2013. as for the latest case, no word on what sparked yesterday's attack and kidnapping of his

car was tracked down on the garden state parkway where the suspect gave up peacefully. and the woman that the suspect is accused of attacking yesterday over in bronx is listed in critical condition but she is expected to survive is. that is the latest live from new jersey, channel 7 eyewitness news. >> thank you. a fire that firefighters thought they had extinguished overnight suddenly flair up again on staten island. the fire broke out in a vacant home on clove road in west brighton and quickly spread to two other homes. crews knocked down the flames but the fire reignited this morning and threatened a nearby deli. firefighters were table put it out before it could cause anymore damage. >> this is traumatic. traumatic. it's a loss. it's a loss. and you know, you think of -- i

in regard to fatality bus the reality is that it's devastating. >> four firefighters were injured while fighting the the initial blaze. a pet cat was killed. there's no word yet on the cause of the fire. a police shootout in brooklyn ends with one man in custody and another on the run. this happened last night at railroad playground. someone shot at two narcotics officers as they responded to a call about gunfire in the park. the officers returned fire, took a 24-year-old man into custody. police are still searching for the other man involved in the gunfire. and police search for three suspects in a possible bias attack in queens. the victim was beaten, robbed and sexually assaulted by three men they said who were shouting anti-gay slurs. now this happened in jackson heights monday morning. police say the suspects chased a 23-year-old victim for several blocks, struck him over the head with a pipe and attacked him. he was hospitalized in serious condition. police have identified a

mother in bronx. investigators say tyrone lowe is also the victim's ex- boyfriend. detectives believe lowe left the scene in morris park in a gray 2006 honda mini van. investigators say he was inside the home of the victim when she was shot in the head. her young son was also there but police say he did not see the killing. three pedestrians struck by vehicles in separate incidents in manhattan overnight. now none of the victims were believed to have suffered life- threatening injuries. this morning, a woman in her 70s was struck by a private garbage truck. the driver was questioned at the scene. a court appearance today for the mother of two the teenage boys beaten so severely in a church counseling session that one died and one was injured. she is facing first and second degree assault charges for the death of her 19-year-old son lucas and the assault on her 17- year-old christopher. her husband and several members

breaking news in queens. a woman injured in what police say was the attemped robbery inside the central terminal at laguardia airport. >> what did k you tell us? >> reporter: well, what -- what can you tell us? >> reporter: this appears to be an attemped purse snatching but because police could not be sure precisely what it was, there is an ems response and there is a police response. you can see the ambulance here now. the victim apparently suffered scrapes and bruises i'm told. in an incident that happened around 11:00 this morning inside the central terminal. apparently in the lady's room. and the woman apparently got into an altercation with someone who was attempting to steal her purse. the thief, the would-be thief apparently got away and has yet to be the woman who got into the altercation, the victim in all of this suffered some scrapes and bruises.

been deployed to rescue people in the worst affected area. nearly 200 people have died. a police officer is recovering after a frightening fall. the officer plunged off a roof while chasing a suspect. it was caught on his body cam. police in utah say they were called because the suspect was loitering. he charged at the officers and one of the officers fell off the roof of a strip mall, about 10 feet to the concrete below. the suspect is was arrested. the officer was treated for bumps and bruises but is otherwise doing well. a stop at a 7-eleven ends in a food fight. two women were upset they couldn't buy store. so they launched a soda bottle at the clerk and then the fight started, bananas and chips started flying. and then a male friend knocked out the clerk with a punch. yikes. it ended with one woman hitting the clerk below the belt with a

leash and that dog, a rescue park. that launched a search by not only the owners but also the community. and even app officials themselves. some who flew in for the effort. the search lasted about a week until the news came tie local vet that the dog had been struck by a car near the park and had not survived. the owners are blaming the now for not having properly trained dog walkers for waiting about an hour to inform that them that the dog was missing in the first place and not before he was killed. they want this story to be a others. >> hope that people can better hearing ducky's story. that's what we hope. >> reporter: now we expect to talk with some company officials from wag later today.

joe, what can you the tell us? >> reporter: here we are. a little bit two hours after this happened. it all unfolded just after 10:00 this morning. we are on rockaway boulevard. literally in the middle of the street here. and you can see police officers have two blocks ofaway boulevard blocked off as they investigate what was a shooting incident involving a police officer here. we understand there were two men having an argument with a third man 2 . two men had a dog with and they had their dog attack the man. he was bitten numerous times. police responded to the scene and in the response we're learning that one of the -- the dog in fact turned towards the police officer who then opened fire, shot and killed the dog. how did the men get injured? it seems one of the men was injured when police opened fire. and perhaps the other man was hit by a bullet or debris. we are told they are both okay. and they were taken to the hospital.
