police lost sight of the car but it reappeared crashing into a number of cars. one suspect was arrested in the vehicle but a second ran into the park which runs alongside the highway. >> nypd officers pursued and a confrontation ensued. one shot was discharged from new york city police officer's weapon killing the second suspect in the wooded area. >> reporter: the incident triggered a massive response. initially it was believed there was a third suspect involved. the sawmill was shut down in both directions between exits 3 and 4 while officers flooded the scene snarling traffic. >> it was weird. they made us turn around on the one end where it's divided, they made us come around and take the next exit out. i found that strange. >> reporter: police won't comment why officers tried to pull over the vehicle in the first place. as of now, it appears the suspects were not armed. >> the officers are hospitalized. they haven't been spoke condition to yet and there are no direct witnesses to the event.

where it joins up with the henry hudson parkway. all that traffic is being forced to mosholu parkway. that is jammed up. you can see where it comes in there, this is where 87 meets up with the major deegan expressway and the deegan delays take you back to the 230s. that is the stream of headlines heading toward you. it's broadway and the local streets are picking up the alternate volume. the northbound lanes are not going to reopen any time soon. reporting live over yonkers, channel 7 eyewitness news. >> worst i have seen in a long, long time. thank you, shannon. new developments in the other big story. a fight in the hallways of a new jersey high school that lead to one student getting shot a block way. at 5:00 we are hearing from an eyewitness to the shooting. as police question other students at dickinson high school in jersey city. eyewitness news reporter josh einiger is there now with more.

high you can see is a huge school building where students are not immune to violence. there are fights on a normal day. today it spilled on the street and down this block where cops say one student let's show you video in the immediate aftermath of this incident from newscopter 7. investigators tell us it happened before 2:00 this afternoon with a fight between two kids inside william dickinson high school. it wound up on the street at palisades and newark avenue. one student had a gun and opened fire hitting the other student in the leg. because the gunman, the student with run for some time, police locked down dickenson and when they finally caught the 16-year- old suspect, they let students out of school and lifted that lock down. but it was a scary experience. all new at 5:00 we talked to a woman that witnessed the shooting.

prosecutors say he then tried to pay the other driver a thousand dollars to keep quiet. roadside was ordered to pay a side and turn over his driver's license. he is suspended without pay. police are looking for a minivan driver in a road rage incident in the meat packing incident. a 27-year-old man was leaving a club when he hit a gray minivan at 4:00 this morning. the two drivers argued then the minivan driver shot the other man in the arm and leg. he drove to the hospital and called 911. investigators are looking at a suspicious 28,500 deposit made to one of the attackers in the deadly mass shooting in california. the fbi is looking into possible accomplices of the shooters. it appears that syed farook and tashfeen malik planned the attack well in advance. the fbi obtained surveillance video of the couple doing target practice around the los

he says that will allow them to assist new york in ensuring public safety in places traditionally targeted by terrorists. the order takes effect today and will remain in effect for 30 days. the nypd is asking for help as they try to catch a serial arsonist terrorizing a neighborhood in queens. police held a meeting in forest hills to give information and ease fears. seven homes in the area were torched the past six weeks. police recently put out video of a suspect seen walking near the scene of one of the fires. the nypd said detectives and patrol officers are working around the clock on the case but they need the community help. >> community sources we need to solve the crime. we made the statement we will solve it together, not just the police department but everybody coming in. >> we live in trying times. this should gratify all of us that we can make a statement together that we are ready,

we have new information about the building where hundreds of bricks fell on the upper east side. the building department issued a violation and ordered changes to the construction site. until those changes are made, a part of first avenue will remain shut down. a lot of viewers are checking out the story on our facebook page. eyewitness news reporter sandra bookman is on the upper east side. sandra? >> reporter: sade, to tampa bay clear, the contractor that was already working on facade renovation had the proper permits and had erected, as required a proper sidewalk shed. we call those scaffoldings. the department of buildings issued this for failure to safeguard the site as it investigates whether the work was being done properly. curious onlookers lined first avenue pointing upwards and

collapse that sent hundreds of bricks falling. 30 stories up, evidence of where the debris came from. >> nobody was hurt. that's the most important thing. >> dr. farrington lives on the 64th street side. she and others feared the worst had happened. >> i just heard unbelievable noise and it was like blast from some bomb or something like that. >> i thought it was terrorism. it was scary. you didn't know. >> reporter: frightened pedestrians running and flecks of debris can be seen on a local security camera. no injuries, just this bashed in rear window on a jello cab. >> due to the hour, i would say that was the one thing that worked for us. at that hour, generally new york city, you have pedestrian traffic. it's remarkable no one was injured. >> reporter: first avenue

closed to traffic as department of buildings and inspectors survey the damage and determine what needs to be done to fix it. the city has issued a violation for failure to safeguard the site to the contractor that was already working on facade repairs to the building. the next step will be to put up protective netting beneath the damaged section of wall to guard against future collapse. back live on the upper east side, i was explained there is a two step process. when the netting gets put up, they work with the contractor to figure out whether scaffolding needs to be put up on the top of the building or some other safety apparatus to make the needed repairs. just a few moments ago we spoke to a spokesperson from the contractor who said they are doing everything they can to work with the city to try to get the needed repairs and make

about 25 yards out here in this parking lot. it happened after he noticed something suspicious inside the motor vehicle agency. authorities quickly gathered these two photos of a man and woman police believe hit a cop while trying to escape. the incident began inside this motorcycle tore vehicle agency where they tried to use fraudulent document to get i.d. being questioned, the male suspect ran to a car in the parking lot where the woman was waiting in the passenger seat. as he jumped in the car and started it, he left the driver's door open. as the officer was attempting to take control of the suspect at that point from fleeing, the car went in reverse and scooped the officer backwards dragging him with the door. >> reporter: the fleeing suspect hit two cars in the parking lot while trying to escape. investigators searched the area looking for any evidence this afternoon. cops were able to find the male

now police want help finding the gunman. kristin? >> reporter: sade, the woman is recovering at brookhaven after leg. shooter. they are investigating whether the woman's boyfriend should be charged for participating in the road rage. police say edward pontis was driving on sunrise highway around 9:00 last night with his girlfriend and infant daughter when he saw a minivan driving erratically in front of them. after that was classic road rage. >> the vehicles engaged in dangerous conduct throughout the road rage incident, passing each other, flashing high beams. at one point the couple pulled in front of the other vehicle and put their brakes on. >> the minivan pulled alongside the couple's car. someone inside fired two shots. >> one round hit behind the

pulling off a terrifying bank heist on long island. the two men held up a wells fargo bank this afternoon. police say the suspect held a gun to a teller's head and demanded money. the men made off with cash but police aren't saying how much. authorities confirm that 80 college students that ate at a chipotle in boston and got sick got the norovirus. a restaurant employee got at sick on thursday and that spread the norovirus. this comes as chipotle tries to reassure customers after an e. coli outbreak made 52 people sick in nine states including here in new york. well, this is a sad day for members of the nypd grieving the loss of one of the best canine officers in the department. blaze, a german shepherd originally from the czech republic died after a long and distinguished career. he fought crime for eight years and retired in 2011 and

police are investigating a possible hate crime in philadelphia. the severed head of a pig was found outside a mosque. surveillance foot tanning taken outside the al-aqsa shows a red pickup truck. someone on the passenger side tossed out the pig's head. it was found in front of the mosque yesterday morning. pigs are considered insulting to muslims.
