police say there was no interaction. >> he's wearing a surgical mask and has surgical gloves object. she is slashed in her face twice. once from ear to her throat, the middle of her throat, and another part of the face as well. >> the victim is a student from china who attends this small private school. police need help from a community unaccustomed to having to work with police. >> there's no excuse for a young girl going to school to be attacked. they shouldn't feel fearful of the authorities. we want to make sure they feel comfortable working with us in trying to catch the assailant. >> reporter: police are not calling this a random attack but they are saying there was no relationship between the suspect and victim and there was no interaction before this happened so clearly this could happen again. he could strike again. police are hoping they catch him before that happens. reporting live from whitestone, jim dolan.
