we'll see 35 miles per hour wind gusts tomorrow. we didn't get the cold today because yesterday's weather system is still offshore. the clouds are breaking up. snow and flurries. we could even see a few snowflakes in our area later tomorrow. as we go through the evening hours, i think we'll drop below. by tomorrow morning, look at the stray flurries north and west. we start the day at freezing. we barely get to 40. wakeup wind chills in the teens and 20s. it's the coldest of the season. we'll let you know if it sticks around. >> okay. we'll see you soon. strong words tonight from the nypd's top cop about the latest prisoner to escape custody. suspended.

before they go back to work. eyewitness news jim dolan is in tribeca. >> reporter: they were just a block away from the first precinct when that alleged shoplifter out witted those police officers and escaped from the back of a police vehicle and ran into the subway station and vanished for several hours. the shoplifter is back in custody. those two police officers are in a heap of trouble. the nypd held a ceremony. fair to say it will be a while before two other officers in the news today will find their way to that stage. >> this will impact their future in the department. >> the commissioner was livid. another suspect in police custody managed to escape, this

back of a police cruiser. >> the suspect feigned an illness. he bolted out the back door and ran into the subway station. >> police had to shut down whole subway lines to find him. countless people inconvenienced, some for hours. finally this morning, police recaptured 20-year-old barry tune, arresting him at his brooklyn group home where he stayed. tune was originally arrested for shoplifting, so he's made his situation worse and that of the two police officers. >> we cannot tolerate it. needless to say i am not pleased. nor is any leadership in this department placed at the failure of the officers to effectively arrest a prisoner and keep that prisoner in custody. >> police officer suspended for a minimum of 30 days, but for them that's really just the beginning. the commissioner said it will

loom large in the future for any promotion considerations. jim dolan, channel 7 eyewitness news. >> jim, thank you. the driver of a porshe that crashed into a school bus in queens killing his passenger is now charged with dwi. the car slammed into the empty bus just after 3:30 this morning. a woman in the porshe was killed. the driver, 29-year-old song of threatening injuries. a man accused of killing a woman inside her home is a no- show today. he was supposed to be arraigned on one murder charge this morning, but he refused to appear before a judge it's unclear why. he's accused of stranging the victim. a bomb threat forced the evacuation of a movie theater showing the new star wars movie.

that theater were found inside the men's room at 11:30 this morning a. search turned up know explosives, and movie goers were allowed back in hours later. the ceo is stepping down. he was arrested yesterday and charged with securities fraud. the 32-year-old was rivaled for hiking the price of a life saving hiv drug by 5,000%. he said business will continue as usual. within the pass hour, president obama signing a 1.1 trillion spending bill, avoiding the government shutdown. he said congress' approval of the transportation and education measures ends the year on a high note. the president says he's not wild about everything in the spending bill but is glad the budget invests in the military and middle class. part of it includes an act that provides health benefits for first responders and survivors

here is a look at the upper west side. we're talking chill appropriate for the season. it will get blustery. 46 degrees, air is dry. 18-24, gusts over 30 tomorrow. the high goes in the books at 57. that was just after midnight. so still running 14 degrees above average. only 6 degrees away from a record high. we drop below 40. 43 in cliffton. we'll see these temperatures nosedive as we go through the evening hours because of the gusty wind. already some of the wind chills like white plains at 44. 38 in newark. it feels like 28 in montecello right now. clouds will be breaking through the evening hours. winds gust around 25. during the day tomorrow, gusts above 30 or 35 miles per hour. mix of sun and clouds, start out not too far from freezing in the morning and struggle to

the last of the showers leaving montauk right now. skies are breaking and colder weather comes in. a lake snow machine is coming in. that could be as much as 8-24 inches of snow upstate. look at the medium gray. some of that getting into the poconos. you see that on the futurecast. look at these star temperatures tomorrow. freezing. couple of snowflakes in sussex county. you can see a flake in the air. during the afternoon hours, blustery, around 40 degrees. now, in terms of those wind chills, tomorrow morning, we haven't seen these levels. 22 in newburgh. 25 in the park. daylight hours, it will feel at best around freezing during the afternoon hours. sharply coulder tonight. a wind chill in the 20s.

five robberies in just one hour. gun wielding thieves on a crime spree hitting one gas station after another in new jersey. now cops are trying to hunt the suspects down. cops say the criminals targeted unsuspecting gas station attendants across newark. >> and now police have confirmed five incidents so far. anthony johnson, live in newark with the latest details. anthony? >> reporter: well, police have been on patrol. there are several gas stations in this area, including one behind me. one of the gas stations that was hit this morning. this all happened between 6:30 and 7:30 in the morning. and now gas station workers are being told to beware. >> he had a mask. he had a hoodie and a black mask.

you only see just enough to see out. >> renee said he's looking to be alive after he pulled a gun, demanding money. >> he put a .45 and took my i didn't give it to him. he put his hands in my pocket and took off. >> he's one of five gas station attendants robbed in a brazen rash of robberies at busy gas stations located along park avenue, bloomfield avenue, and carter highway. >> did he say anything? >> he said that's all the money you have? i said that's all i have? he was a military veteran. he realizes the job is dangerous there. 's good video surveillance from another one of the crime scenes. as we showed you first on eyewitness news at 4:00, the suspects drove up in a late model infinity vehicle and moved in quickly to target the gas station workers.

the winds are starting to pick up. between now and sunrise, i think we have a 12-25 mile-per- hour wind. the gusts are in the shades and the numbers of sustained winds are happening pretty frequently. look at the reds there. gusts up to 35 miles per hour. anywhere from 15-30 miles per hour north and west. a blustery day tomorrow. even depicting a couple of flurries getting into new jersey. starting off the day around the freezing mark. about 38-41 during the afternoon hours, clouds mixing with sun and that gusty breeze. less harsh on sunday morning. panthers an giants, pretty good football weather. 44 degrees. look at your wakeup temperatures. this will only be the second time they reach 32. i think we may dip below freezing on sunday morning and recover at 44 in the afternoon. monday is a bounceback day. the daylight hours are dry.
