safeguarding of a prisoner. one to keep the prisoner safe, but to keep the public safe from them. last night two of our officers failed that responsibility in a very significant way. >> it all started back in june when 23-year-old that reek arnold broke away with his handcuffs on. >> it took a moment to catch him. four more prisoners would escape before yesterday when they let a 24-year-old shoplifter outsmarted them by faking sick. >> he bolted out the back door and ran into the subway station. >> tune was recaptured at his group home. it made residents wonder if having a home in a neighborhood like that is a good idea. >> we have children, families. we don't want this kind of homes coming in here.

now, this afternoon, a letter from timothy cardinal dolan went out. it said the accusations were found to be credible. it was turned over to a number of prosecutors. they took place in the 1980s when o'keefe worked at cardinal hayes high school in the bronx. one case occurred in virginia. meantime, the rockland county da's office also has opened an investigation. the allegations have not been substantiated and that o'keefe denies them and the church is also looking into it. >> our policy is it's not just the archdiocese but across the country that if we can substantiate that even one act of abuse as occurred, that montsenior o'keefe will never function as a priest again. >> now, the letter says the

the clouds over toward northwest new jersey. the clouds continue to break as we go through the overnight hours there. 's the last of the showers moving away with yesterday's storm system and behind it, blustery winds, colder temperatures, look where the trajectory is coming from. right down from the great lakes. look what's going on. the snow machines are going on for the first time in a while from buffalo south and north of syracuse. in these areas, 8-14-inches of snow. if you look, remember that trajectory, look at some of these showers. we'll get flurries to the cat skills. only a 5, 10% of a flurry getting down into new york city. tomorrow, 20s to low 30s. 38-41. cloud sun, gusty wind and a stray flurry. wind chills, something we haven't seen in a while. barely up to 40 tomorrow. clouds and sun. still brisk tomorrow night, only the second time this season. we get down to freezing and

in terms of the seven-day actual forecast, yes, we're going to get up to 44 degrees during the afternoon hours. the morning temperatures, still brisk in the upper 20s and low 30s. on monday, it's a bounceback day at 54 degrees. there might be a shower later tonight when winter arrives just before midnight. a big warmup comes in as we'll be in the mid-50s by monday and tuesday. then into the 60s by christmas eve. could be 65 to 70 across the area. we'll have more on that. >> perfect if you're in l.a. >> thanks. >> you got. it. rob is up next with sports. >> big game for the jets and the giants. it could be a playoff spot.
