search for the gunman. hello everyoning i'm joe torres. >> and i'm lauren glassberg in for sandra bookman. police have released few details about what happened inside the store in zoo city. >> it happen -- jersey city. >> tonight the search is on for any clues that could lead to the gunman. >> eyewitness news reporter aj ross is at the scene now with the latest details. aj? >> reporter: lauren, joe, for the past several hours police and crime scene investigators have been here outside this clothing store here on bergen avenue trying to piece together evidence from this deadly shooting. neighbors say the owner of the store was a hard working family man supporting his wife and daughter. and he didn't deserve this senseless violence. >> it hurts, it is crazy. it's crazy. >> reporter: the holiday lights in the jersey -- in the heart of jersey city, after gunfire erupted inside the clothing store here along bergen avenue saturday evening. >> saw that happen.

feel better and speaking of the unseasonable run of mild temperatures, almost every day of is this month has been -- so far this month has been either in the 50s or 60s until today where the high was only 40 degrees. so it's the first time this month that we had high temperatures which were below normal. 39 your temperature right now in central park. we got up to 40 so we haven't fallen that much so far in the city but it will dip down further overnight tonight. you're down to 27 in monticello and down to freezing at newburg right now. mid 30s down the jersey shore at belmar and toms river and you take into account the wind. it feels like below freezing in the city. especially between the buildings between you get the -- when you get wind gusts and 15 is the windchill at monticello. finally it feels a little bit more like winter out there and you see our streamline showing the wind from the west right now coming in pretty strong at times but that will be diminishing overnight. some clouds out there and there were even a couple of snow

it took 60 firefighters to get the fire under control. still no word from investigators about the cause of that fire. from brooklyn to new jersey, jersey city specifically where a first responder was injured and dozens of people displaced after a fire ripped through an apartment building there. eyewitnesses posted video of the firefighters responding to the scene this afternoon. authorities say it started on the first floor and quickly spread to the second. falling debris injured one firefighter. the red cross is helping six families find shelter. the cause of the fire is under investigation as well. new surveillance video gives us a closer look at the man accused of sexually assaulting a woman in the stairwell of her brooklyn apartment building. it happened wednesday night around 8:00? east flatbush. authorities are looking for this man seen entering a subway station on new kirk avenue shortly after the assault. he's accused of attacking a 33- year-old woman as she was entering her apartment building and stealing her phone and

two firefighters came to the rescue of a boater trapped and queens. it happened in forrockaway around 5:00 this afternoon. the man was working on his boat when he fell into thed wearment first responders rushed him to the hospital in serious condition. the two firefighters who jumped exposure. a long island man is accused of assaulting two arrest. authorities say they found numerous drugs inside a car during a traffic stop in long beach on friday. when they began to place the 33- year-old charles rodriguez under arrest the officers say weapons. additional officers were called in to help bring him under control and three other people in the car are also now facing drug charges. the mother of amadou diallo speaks out denouncing the promotion of the officer who was involved in the death of her son.

bratton to review the promotion process within the nypd. elevated to sergeant this week. he was one of the four officers acquitted in the 1999 shooting of diallo in the sound view section of the bronx. >> my heart was broken. like a knife through my heart. because i believe if someone -- if a police officer has been in power by going his gun and abusing it and killing innocents, they should not be able to do the same work. >> he was shot to death in the vestibule of his bronx building as he reached for what turned out to be his wallet. boss is the only one of the four involved officers still with the nypd. and ann inmate at the jail tested positive for tuberculosis. the 45-year-old inmate is being treated at the medical center.

quite a scene in queens this afternoon when fire and smoke spiraled toward the sky. authorities say a crew hit a gas line while working at a construction site in long island city and gas began to leak and then erupted into a cloud of flames. one person was hurt but not seriously. firefighters had to wait for a conedison crew to turn off the gas before they could extinguish the fire and one nearby building sustained damage on the outside. happening tomorrow, police and city officials will pay tribute to two nypd officers on the one year anniversary of their deaths. detectives rafael ramos and wenjian liu were fatally shot in bedford-stuyvesant last december. there will also be a memorial plaque dedication at the brooklyn precinct where they worked average community in

high school football player killed while shielding three girls from gunfire. mourners organized a vigil for 15-year-old zaevion dobson in knoxville. a man opened fire and dobson doe on top of three -- dove on top of three teenaged girls. the young women were not hurt but he was shot in the dead and didn't survive. now his coach and brother are among those praising his character. >> he's a sophomore only and already successful and already living a life that's contagious and people following so very swell liked by his -- well liked by his peers and teammates. >> he wanted to make it out. >> police athe suspected gunman was killed in another -- say the suspected gunman was killed in another shooting a short time later. they were not the intended target of the spotting. a -- shooting. a u.s. army reservist is

34 white plains, farther out into the suburbs and you get a bit colder. down to freezing in mid 30s down the jersey shore and still a pretty stiff westerly wind out there. that will be calming down overnight and the clouds will tend to clear out and move to the north and east. here's the futurecast overnight into tomorrow morning. you wake up to temperatures right around 34 in the city and a lot of 20s in the suburbs. we get up into the low 0s during the day again a sunny day less wind than what we had today. i think monday some more clouds around but also a milder afternoon. temperatures getting up into the 50s and the first little bout of rain comes in monday night in the form of a few showers. but there are steadier batches of rain where that came from with a pretty strong mild flow from the gulf of mexico and loaded with moisture and warmth as we head throughout much of the upcoming christmas week. accuweather forecast overnight clearing brisk and cold we're down to 31 midtown and 25 in some outlying areas. it's mainly sunny and cold right around sunrise at 7:16 in the morning. 34 in the city.

the candidates also clashed over gun control and isis. also topping the news this half hour, investigators in brooklyn try to figure out what caused a deadly fire there. >> it started around 10:5 this morning on east 52nd avenue and firefighters discovered body of a woman inside. the victim a former city worker whose neighbors describe as a beautiful person. >> eyewitness news reporter cefaan kim has the story from flatlands. >> she didn't look well like she was blind. and she had a walker. >> reporter: resident and flatlands, brooklyn having a hard time grasping what happened after learning their neighbor alma crosby perished in a fire around 10:00 this morning. it took 60 firefighters to get it under control and all hands on deck blaze. neighbors say the 64-year-old was a sweet down to earth woman. who mostly kept to herself and a retired city employee.

and a little old lady but very wonderful lady. beautiful person. >> beautiful. >> reporter: frank lives a few houses down he says he smelled the smoke from his home and ran over to try to save his neighbor but with flames spewing out of the side door and the smoke pouring out, it was just too much to handle. >> just saw a whole bunch of smoke coming out of everywhere and you saw the fire come out of here and getting bigger and bigger and bigger. >> reporter: detectives meanwhile spent much of the day combing the neighborhood for clues as fire marshals searched inside the home for any signs of what may have caused this. crosby was a longtime resident and and it was well-known she lived by herself. many say they tried to help her over the years by preparing meals or offering her rides to the hospital but she would also refuse they say. preferring to be the thought of her trapped inside her burning home helpless has left many here stunned. >> it's crazy. you wouldn't think that something like this would happen here because it's such a nice neighborhood and we all look out for each other.

it's kind of like one loss. >> reporter: neighbors say crosby moved into home about 20 years ago with her mother but more than a decade ago neighbors passed away -- her mother passed away and she became very rescuesive then. again at this time police only saying that the cause of her death and the cause of fire still under investigation. in brooklyn, cefaan kim, channel 7 eyewitness news. police have a warning for homeowners in new jersey at a community that's been targeted by burglars. authorities are investigating four break-ins yesterday in saddle brook. police say the burglars entered by forcing open windows and doors and then took cash, jewelry and electronics and authorities are urging residents to remain vigilant and report suspicious activity and have motion sensitive lights on their property. police have not determined whether the burglaries are linked. a new jersey man faces weapons charges after police say he tried to bring a loaded

tsa agents detected the handgun in the man's carry-on bag at a security check point this morning. the man had a ticket for a flight to houston. it's the second gun arrest at newark liberty airport this month. new tonight police in the hudson valley arrest a suspect in a vicious armed robbery. investigators say christopher dam is the masked gunman who threatened a store owner and demanded money on tuesday night. detectives say dam was identified through surveillance video of the attempted robbery. the suspect did not get away with any cash because the owner chased him out of the store. dam was arraigned in hyde park and is being held without bail. bill cosby's lawyers are fighting an attempt to require his wife to give a sworn deposition in a defamation lawsuit against him. seven women who accused cosby of sexually assaulting them filed the lawsuit. camille cosby is scheduled to be deposed next. but cosby's lawyers filed a motion on friday to stop the

firsthand knowledge of the issues in the lawsuit. the pharmaceutical company executive who stepped down speaks out. martin shkreli says the allegation against him are baseless and without merit. he tweeted today i am confident the 32-year-old pleaded not guilty in brooklyn federal court this week to securities fraud and conspiracy charges and he is accused of losing investors' money through bad trades and then looting his company to payback clients, first responders and their families are celebrating permanent health care coverage for health issues stemming from the 9/11 attacks. local leaders gathered alongside first responders today at ground zero to applaud the extension of the zadroga act. president obama signed a federal spending bill yesterday that guarantees enough money for the victims' compensation fund through 2021. it also ensures the world trade center health program is renewed until 2090.

warning went out in the country's capital. officials issued the severe air pollution warning during the unhealthy smog because of the unhealthy smog levels in beijing. people are advised to avoid outdoor activity and school is canceled in some parts of the city. the dangerous smog conditions are expected to remain through tuesday. it is incredible video. a truck goes off the road, flips down a hill and lands inches from a house. and somehow, the driver still manages to walk away unharmed. tonight, the homeowner speaks out about the crash that nearly took out his entire home. >> talk about a crash landing. the homeowner who shot this video joked he thought santa claus arrived early. this, after he heard a loud boom outside the house and found an unexpected guest. >> it shook the house and yeah the tires blew and i couldn't quite figure it out and there was something still like making noise. >> that was the truck still running after tumbling down a steep hillside and then landing

the crash sent debris everywhere. lance anderson said he heard the driver screaming as the man climbed out of the back window and stumbled off into the darkness. it happened on the sharp curve of this pierce county road in washington state around midnight wednesday. and wanterson's house is roughly 20 feet below and it's equipped with surveillance cameras. >> spare bedroom. no one wants to stay here anymore. [ laughter ] everyone who sue that video was like -- saw that video was like i'm not sleeping in there. >> thankfully no one was in the room but the crash startled anderson and he still has no idea what happened to the driver who managed to walk away without serious injury. the house avoided major damage as well. >> this week? a few hours of sleep. and still running on adrenaline. so yeah i'm ready for the weekend i tell you that. >> it's unclear tonight if the driver was arrested.

install a guardrail at the curve. a sanitation worker is caught on camera picking up not trash but averages left outside a maryland home. the homeowner couldn't believe it. a sanitation worker made a mad dash for two packages on the driveway. they con trained christmas gifts. the gifts have been reordered and police are trying to track down the thief. a state trooper became a big hero to little girl when he went beyond the line of duty to reunite her with her beloved toy pear. earlier this month 4-year-old emma lost the favorite stuffed polar bear when it fell out of the window in massachusetts. her mother called the state police's non-emergency line and trooper dan mather managed to track down the bear. after being reunited with her favorite friend, emma and her mom sent a sweet thank you note. >> oh. that's nice. >> a florida woman found a stowaway inside the car and

but say now that he is here, they're not sure when they'll have time to go see the new "star wars" movie. i guess they decided not to name the baby chewbacca. >> that's quite the truth. >> lots to talk about as he's growing. >> i. well yeah. i hope he becomes a fan. >> a knight. tonight would have been a good night to get inside for the first time in a while. >> i didn't want to step outdoors all day today because it was the first time that it really felt biting out there. we had the windchills in the 20s and for much of the day today. temperatures only topped out right around the 0-degree mark which is -- 40-degree mark which is finally below average for this time the year, a live look right now down toward the empire state building and 39 now. cloudy skies and that wind coming in still gusting up to 23 miles per hour. so it is still pretty brisk out there but the wind will be calming down overnight and that will actually allow temperatures to fall a little bit more quickly. we're probably down to about 34 during the wee hours of morning. maybe even bottoming out just below the freezing mark by the

highs today 40 in the park. again, that was the first time all month that we had a high temperature that was below average and virtually every other day this month has been either in the 50s or the 60s especially during the past week. look at this. monday, tuesday, highs in the upper 60s to near 70 degrees across much of the area. right now, 34 new city, you're 32 newburg and 34 middletown and you're 27 at monticello. you fell down into the mid 30s down the shore and upper 30s on the island and southwestern parts of connecticut. you add the wind in there and that's a biting windchill. it feels like 33 in the city but a lot of 20s in the suburbs for windchills and even feeling like 15 at monticello. as we still have a pretty brisk westerly wind but that will be calming down overnight. and in addition to that the clouds will be clearing out gradually and both of the factors actually allow the temperature to drop more quickly and i do think we get down to about 31 in the city. lots of 20s in the suburbs and even

up to about 44 and a few degrees warmer than today. we have a lot more sunshine and a lot less in the way of wind and it's going to feel better out this tomorrow. more bearable to head outside and 36 your high in monticello. so that area of high pressure will move offshore and behind it we get a return flow of much milder air as we head into the week. and check out this pattern we're heading into here. opening up the flood gates for air from the gulf of mexico to move on up the atlantic seaboard. it's mild and at times, we will have some bouts of rain during your christmas week. so here's your accuweather forecast. sun rising at 7:16 in the morning. not as windy during the day and mostly sunny skies and we're up to about 44 and partly cloudy tomorrow night down to about 38. here's your accuweather seven day forecast. turning milder on monday. 54. it's a mix of sun and clouds. maybe a couple of showers in here. monday night into tuesday, tuesday is 60 degrees. and then steadier rain moves in during the day on wednesday. 60 degrees.
