jacoby medical center. he has 30 years on the job in the city of yonkers. no serious injuries after all of this. we are live at yonkers, josh, channel 7 eyewitness news. a new york cop dead tonight, one of six americans blown up by a suicide bomber in afghanistan. he was a 15-year veteran. the bomber was on a motorcycle and on a mission of death. afghanistan now in a state of crisis. the nypd is in a state of mourning. eyewitness news reporter jim dolan has the stories at police headquarters. >> reporter: no surprise that detective joseph lamb was in afghanistan, the most dangerous place on earth this week. he spent most of his adult life in dangerous places trying to make this city and the world safer for you and me, for the

squad, certainly the most dangerous and toughest job in the nypd, tracking down dangerous criminals. they raised flags tonight in memory of joseph lamb who had two children. cameras were rolling in 2013 after a 10-month deployment in afghanistan and surprised his step daughter. lemm had been serving nearly half of his two-year-old's son's life at that point. joseph lemm had reached detective grade in his years at the nypd. he worked on the warrant squad, as we said, often recapturing dangerous criminals and suspects. he also served in the air national guard doing two tours of duties in afghanistan and iraq. he had two young children. in a statement, commissioner william bratten said detective joseph lemm epitomized the

bill, back to you. >> thank you, lee. a disturbing story. a 16-year-old girl on the way to school in queens slashed in the face out of nowhere and by a complete stranger. that girl is afraid to show us her face and because of her injuries, unable to speak. we are at the scene of the attack. >> reporter: this 16-year-old girl came to america for the american dream, leaving her family back in china and came here to build a life for herself. after being here three months, her dream was shattered and turned into a nightmare as she was brutally attacked on this corner as she was going to school. >> the blood kept coming out, bleeding a lot. >> reporter: speaking through an interpreter, the 16-year-old victim randomly slashed in the throat last week says it's a vision she can't get out of her mind. so terrified her attacker is still waiting for her out there, she asked us to conceal her identity.

unable to talk, she's communicating through pen and paper. underneath the face mask she's wearing, there are stitches that run from her eye and ear down to her throat. nearly a week after the attack, she still can't eat solid food. >> my hope is to not have this happen again. >> reporter: this is home security video showing the team leaving for school wednesday morning moments before the attack, not a care in the world that she innocently puts on her back pack and heads off to class. minutes later, the same camera caught her stumbling home covered in blood. the images, though, too graphic for tv. this is video from a nearby home security camera capturing the assault. the victim says she noticed her attacker following her, and out of nowhere, without saying a word, he cuts her twice from ear to throat with a box cutter. the suspect was wearing a surgical mask and gloves and she felt the pain right away. it was a pain she says she had never felt before. all she was thinking at that moment was she needed to get to a hospital as soon as possible. >> it was too fast. i didn't have time to react at

>> reporter: the teen says the pain is bearable, but her mother who did not wish to appear on camera said to her interpreter that her daughter is trying to stay strong to protect her mother. >> she doesn't want mom to hurt, so she's saying everything is okay, but she said she is in pain. >> having a daughter of my own and over the weekend, when we saw security footages with the family, my wife was in tears as we saw her leaving the house, putting her book bag on, closing the door. these are moments that every single family knows what it's about. and this is every parent's worst nightmare. >> reporter: and the good news is doctors told the team today she's expected to make a full recovery, but it will be a long road ahead. it will take about a year and she will likely need reconstructive surgery. and that is, of course, just her physical scars. despite everything she's going through, she said she still wants her american dream.

as we got out, he saw my truck and just started yelling for help to let us know where he was. >> it took rescuers three hours to secure the hiker, get him into a stretcher and bring him safely down the mountain. another treacherous mountain rescue in new jersey. this one, not another sharp drop from a mountain but a bear with sharp teeth. a boy scout leader lowering himself into what he thought was an empty cave when he was attacked by a bear. the man's son and two friends, all of them boy scouts in the troop called 9-1-1 and used food to lure the bear out. the man suffered lacerations but we are told tonight he is going to survive. she was once the first daughter. now she says she's going to welcome her second child. chelsea clinton announcing she's pregnant again. the 35-year-old said she plans to step up her presence on the campaign trail with her mother. not sure how the pregnancy will affect that plan. hillary tweeting, we're so excited to meet our second grandchild.
