>> reporter: those who heard gunshots ran along with others who saw police, sensed the fear and panicked. >> pure pandemonium. >> reporter: surveillance video obtained exclusively by eyewitness news shows police and security guards helping a man shot outside a tourneau store. after they took down an armed robber whose handgun fired. >> the shot left the store and struck a mall employee in the mall. 67-year-old male. >> a man was arrested a short time later. on one of the busiest shopping days of the year, confusion. >> i wasn't in the store 30 seconds and people just started screaming and running out of the door at macy's. >> reporter: ever since paris, a response from police that is greater than ever. >> we have the bureau of special operations and response team that works in the mall. i won't go into the specific numbers but we have a robust

that will happen tonight into tomorrow morning. we are in the low 60s. cloudy skies. westerly wind about 6 miles per hour. mild across the area. last year on this date we were 20 colder in the low to middle 40s. in terms of the rainfall, amounts are light unless you talk about bridgeport, an inch and a quarter. streets are damp. no big puddles. murky outside. low clouds are trying to thin out north and west. the rain moved out. the next heavy batch is way down in the gulf of mexico. this is a while before we get to the heavy rain. 12, 15 hours away. look at the warmth on the east coast. that is in the 70s coming up i- 95 for christmas eve. the lull that we are in with the rainfall will last until late tomorrow morning. prepare for that. fog and heavy rain. definitelying fog slow travel tomorrow in the afternoon hours. that will give rain to record shattering warmth on christmas.

business owners living in fear about the escalating violence at a high school near the bronx. >> the streets they say are overrun by fighting students that pull the fire alarm as a way to get everyone out. one of those fights caught on camera. >> the big question is how to stop the violence. joe torres has the story in westchester square for us. >> reporter: administrators at the six schools on the lehman campus sent a letter home to parents asking parents for their help asking parents to encourage their kids not to pull the fire alarms inside the schools. that strategy has not worked. the result?

fighting and that's causing major problems. israel leon showed us the public address system. >> kids, can you move out of the way, out of the front of our business. >> reporter: then he sounded the peering siren -- piercing siren. then the video surveillance system that shows why the owners of the beyond beauty academy in westchester square have invested thousands in dollars in numerous security measures. look at the mob of high school students who punch, fight and brawl on east tremont avenue just about every school day. >> i have my son that comes to the school, my wife and these are the type of things that you don't want your family or people in general to have do deal with when they walk in a business. it's unsafe. >> reporter: so unsafe and infrequent that six school administrators sent a letter home to parents saying the leadership and staff of the lehman educational campus take this issue seriously and are working with representatives of

the nypd and the office of safety and youth development to address the issue and ensure that it does not continue. that letter was dated december 4th. three weeks later the problem in fact does continue. >> this is not really a police issue. the police are responding to what is going on. the problems are created inside the school. >> reporter: when someone pulls the fire alarm, thousands of kids pour on the streets. the daily fights have taken a toll on retailers in an effort to keep the kids out are keeping customers out. >> [ indiscernible ] >> reporter: the business improvement district feels the problem centers around cell phones in schools adding when the mayor and department of education allowed that to happen, schools inside -- phones inside the schools they started to communicate on the

that was two years ago. we will be in the 70s on christmas eve. 74 the forecast high. forget the old record from 1996. the question is can we get the all time december high, 75 degrees. we have a shot break through the clouds at time. the one change in the christmas day forecast, the problem of late rain coming in south and west of new york city. 61 soho. bayside 62. staten island, you are at 59. hudson valley in the 50s. monticello you had 30s last night. around 50s. visibilities have come way up. at 4:00 it was 2 miles at j.f.k. islip a half mile. still low on the island. tricky travel on the island. doing well on the hudson valley and jersey shore. the night. clouds and fog, some dense at 54.

the chances of beckham winning this? >> small. he has played 26 games in his career. 14 this year. in that career he has been find by the nfl three times for on field problems and now a one game suspension for what went down sunday. battled. suspension. the appeal will be heard tomorrow in the league office and the final ruling should be handed down. nobody is excusing the panthers or norman but beckham needs to get a handle. we caught up with a teammate talking about making the trip to minnesota possibly without beckham. >> it would be real tough. you know with that guy, what

type of guy he is, the passer he has for the game. it will be hard to go up in minnesota and get a win. >> now you heard beckham may have been rattled by the panthers threatening him with a baseball bat. has video. the reg reminding teams to keep that kind of stuff off the field. panthers say okay. we will keep you up to date on the appeal. jets play-off hopes are alive but nothing is a sure thing. they host the patriots. they played saturday. the jets were back at work today. they are 9-5. they need to win the last two games which would mean a six game winning streak. there is still no promise of the play-offs because the chiefs and steelers hold the tie breakers. jets say beat the pats sunday. >> take it one at a time. take care of us and get better and dot things we need to do better sunday. >> this is why everybody in here plays the game.
