long string of cars, each car ran into the next vehicle. the one behind it, until it hit a red vehicles and that's where it came to a halt. the driver of the blue car that was damaged the most was right across the street. >> really, i have no idea what happened. i'm upset. it's a holiday weekend. what am i going to do it? 's the city. what can you do? you can't fight city hall. >> reporter: did they say they would pay for it or do you have to go through your insurance? >> oh, no, they would pay for it, they said. >> reporter: so if none of those vehicles had been there, the first thing the bus would have hit would have been this oil taker which is sitting right in front of ps 75, and there were still a lot of students at that school when all this happened. but no students were hit, nobody in the intersection was hit, no accidents. it was pretty remarkable that nobody got hurt in this.

side, jim dolan, channel 7 eyewitness news. two new york air national guard members killed in afghanistan are being remembered tonight by their base. they spoke about 45-year-old tech sergeant joseph lemm who was also an nypd detective, and the staff sergeant killed in a suicide bombing monday along with four other service members. >> he was always one to lead the way, sergeant was a steadfast defender, always one to want to be in the mix. he was they ever one to want to sit back and watch things happen. >> a service was held at bagram air force base. their bodies are arriving in the u.s. today. flags are flying at half-staff in new york today and tomorrow in their honor. new information about a head-on area in morris county

one of them is out of the hospital. the other is expected to survive as well. they were on duty when their cruiser slammed into a truck at cory lane and mendham road. the driver of the truck was not hurt. a grand jury today deciding to indict the truckdriver in the crash that injured tracee morgan and killed one of the comedian's friends. kevin roper now facing first- degree aggravated manslaughter, second-degree vehicular homicide and third- degree aggravated assault charges. roper was driving a wal-mart truck when he crashed into the van carrying morgue tbarnd and his friends on the new jersey turnpike last year. >> all right, we are still anticipating a decision sometime from the n florida today on the one-game suspension of giants wide receiver odell beckham jmplet let's take a look at the only shot of the star today arriving in midtown. the giants head coach coming to beckham's defense earlier today. eyewitness news reporter rob nelson live outside nfl headquarters right now. rob. >> reporter: good evening, rob.

rock star in the nfl known for incredible hands. at this hour his status with the league is in someone else's hands. it was this full-speed helmet to helmet hit on sunday against the panthers that took odell beckham junior from one of the league's most celebrated players to now one of its most vilified. it was one of three personal fouls the star wide receiver racked up during sunday's heartbreaking loss to carolina in which he tussled with josh norman over and over again, the league ultimately suspending the star for the giants' game this weekend. ignoring the media beckham found himself in the league's midtown office, a feeling that -- >> to depict this as odell beckham being wrong and the only one wrong is not right. >> reporter: beckham and other giants players along that the panthers taunted beckham with

before the game, and according to some reports, there were gay slurs hurled at beckham as well. >> but there were factors involved, starting in pregame, which are well document, which indicate that there was an attempt to provoke him. >> reporter: today the league announced it was not suspending norman but instead fining the panthers' player $26,000 for his role in sunday's mess. today teammates stood by beckham who in two seasons has established himself as one of the league's most talented, exciting, and flamboyant players, but also one who is prone to on the field tantrums. >> he's great. his enthusiasm for the game, i never seen it. he came here his rookie year last year. i knew he would be something special. >> now if the suspension holds, beckham will give up $53,000. that of course is just a small fraction of his annual salary this year of just under $900,000.

guilty to robbery, assault, and gun charges. police tonight saying there were signs of trouble before yesterday. eyewitness news reporter stacy sarge live outside in garden city with today's developments. stacy. >> reporter: well, rob, there was a troubling facebook post with a gun, pills, and alcohol. authorities say that should have been a red flag. what's also clear, there was a hero in all of this, a life threatening struggle, actually, to stop the suspect. >> reporter: why did you rob the store? >> reporter: 21-year-old oliver lee of douglas and queens said nothing today as he headed to court but his actions yesterday spoke volumes. as you can see in this exclusive video, confused workers and shoppers either shelter ised behind gated stores or ran out of the mall, believing there was an active shooter. why? well, cops tell us more than 400 of the 911 calls came in from the mall yesterday after people heard a gun shot.

say, was that lee used this handgun's tried to steal an $18,000 rolex watch from a secure part of the torneau store. but a retired nypd officer working security with two others wouldn't let that happen. >> it resulted in a life-and- death struggle. the struggle started in the rear of the store and went out into the concourse of the mall. >> an employee of macies was shot when lee's gun went off in the scuffle, but that employee is now recovering. no one answered at lee's home here in queens today, but police say he was unemployed and that they found 10 oxycodone pills on him at the time of his arrest. they also confirm lee posted this photo of a gun, alcohol, and pills on his facebook page on sunday. a red flag, they say. >> if you see something that is not right or alarms you,

around tin rain in the parking lot in ellenville wearing only diapers. police say a 28-year-old left the children in her room when she left for work at 5:50 in the morning yesterday. they were by themselves six hours before someone spotted them outside. a father from the bronx arraigned today in the killing of his two-month-old so. investigators say jose feliciano say he choked and suffocated the child when the baby boy wouldn't stop crying. police say surveillance video shows fell feliciano carrying a bag. in minneapolis at the mall of america demonstrators blocked traffic. the group trying to draw

channel 7 eyewitness news. we have breaking news just league. the one-game suspension without pay of odell beckham junior has been upheld. his suspension will go on. james thrash had the hearing today in the nfl offices in new york city. he is in charge of the discipline here. so odell beckham junior is suspended for one game for his actions in sunday's game against the carolina panthers. he appealed that one-game suspension. the hearing was held today. the suspension now upheld. he will miss sunday's game at minnesota. now official. also tonight an arrest in a notorious murder case in manhattan that dates back three years. in 2012 brandon woodward, a law student from los angeles, shot in broad daylight while walking along west 58th street inmidtown. the murder was connect to a drug con spare see. today 37-year-old lloyd mckenzie was charged in that

the gunman has not been apprehended. a long island man now charged with drunk driving in deadly crash. police say he was intoxicated when he drove his audi the wrong way early this morning. he crashed head on to a toyota corolla killing the 57-year- old driver. o'brien is in the hospital getting treatment for nonlife- threatening injuries. and for the third time this month a passenger at newark airport has been arrested for carrying a loaded gun in a carry-on bag. the most recent incident happened monday when the tsa agent stopped a man's tried to get through security with a loaded .45 caliber handgun. the gun was in the man's knapsack carry-on bag. the weapon was seized and the man arrested. for the first time in nypd history members of the force are in uniform working in a foreign country.
