we are here in the area known as duffy square in between 46th and 47th. you can see some of the police officers getting their briefings and they are about to open up these particular pins but as we look down 7th avenue towards the actual cross roads of the world, you can see the sea of people. they have pins all throughout times square where people are going to one at a time and fill up and then they have to stand there, really all afternoon. if we come back around this way, you can see a crowd of people waiting for access to this particular pin. and when they get in here, they very heavy security. >> reporter: 65 pins will eventually hold more than a million people and they have been filling up since early this morning. police searching in every pocket, looking into every bag, checking under every hat. with the city under the highest security for new year's eve in history. >> this is going to be the

this time, a whole lot different. right now, cloudy skies and breaks of sun, it's 47 degrees. and it's 48 at laguardia and 50 around jfk and the temperature is going the to go higher into the afternoon. so if you're going to be in the pin, this is pretty good weather to be pinned up in. we have a 10 miles per hour out of the northwest at teterboro and it will keep the skies breaking up and it's going to feel good this afternoon. and as we go into the evening hours no. rain on the way. and there's no snow on the way. there's no precipitation on the way. a great evening and a great evening of travel where ever you're going to be. into the afternoon, we will be in the low 50s, upper 40s and then as we get to tonight at midnight, we're having a temperature around 41 degrees and tomorrow morning, and during the day tomorrow, on new year's day, the temperature is going to be around 45 degrees. as we could want it down, very nice weather this year. sort of the polar opposite from last new year's eve. looking at 41 degrees when the ball drops and tomorrow, 45

and if you're away if the tv, you can catch it all on the watch abc app. a developing story in western new york where authorities have arrested a man accused of plotting an isis attack. investigators say the 25-year- old wanted to attack people inside a restaurant tonight in the rod chester area. and they say he -- in the rochester area. he made his first court appearance this morning. the body of an airman killed in afghanistan returning home to long island. staff sergeant louis bonacasa receiving a hero's welcome. a wake will be held this afternoon. we are there with the details. >> reporter: well, we are here at the airport. this is behind me where the military ceremony will be held for staff sergeant louis bonacasa. it will feature a military

the commander and the chaplain of the 105th air lift wing. the 31-year-old was from long island. he was killed last week during a suicide bombing bombing in afghanistan. we leaves behind a 5-year-old daughter, a wife and three siblings. he joined the air force in 2002 and this was his fourth tour overseas. these services come one day after the funeral for staff sergeant joseph lemm killed in the same attack last week. lemm was from west chester and a detective with the nypd. we expect a similar turnout for bonacasa's services today. after the ceremony here today, military members as well as the family will go to his wake at a funeral home in miller place. it will happen today and tomorrow. and he will be laid to rest saturday at national cemetery. for now we're live in west hampton beach, channel 7 eyewitness news. >> thank you.

at the maspeth strip club that's part of the investigation into the shooting of a knick's player cleanthony early. the city scape's gentleman's club was closed when this happened this morning. no one was injured. two men were reportedly seen in a green nissan fleeing the scene. well now to the latest in the bill cosby case. his attorney speaking out this morning a day after the comedian was arrested and charged with sexually assaulting a woman 12 years after it allegedly happened. bond. we are here with more. >> reporter: cosby's lawyer today described him as in good spirits saying he is confident his name will be cleared in the case. but for now, he's had to surrender his passport and agree not to contact his accuser. >> how do you respond to the charges? >> reporter: bill cosby out on a million dollars bail after appearing in a pennsylvania court yesterday. the 78-year-old facing a charge

six people are being questioned by police in belgian. a magistrate will decide whether arrest wants should be issued. they were brought in after investigators carried out seven raids in brussels two. men were arrested this week in connection with the suspected holiday plot. turning to politics. donald trump ratcheting up the rhetoric on the campaign trail declaring his comments about bill and hillary rodham clinton are akin to war. calling the ex-president one of the great abusers of the world. trump spoke to a packed rally if south carolina. the billionaire business man took aim at hillary rodham clinton calling her horrible saying she gives him a headache. and he defended charges leveled by clinton that he is sexist. >> she said, he's got -- he's demonstrated a penchant for sexism. can you believe it? me?

single digits and teens were the real-feel. your real feel tonight is going to be 41 degrees at midnight. just a little light wind. not much of a factor. we look to the reservoir across beautiful central park, 5th avenue and all the way got a good visibility here. we have clouds and breaks of sun at times and that's how our afternoon is going to shape up. our temperatures are already at 47 degrees. normal average afternoon high temperature this time of the year is at about 39. so the humidity is on the dry side. the northwest wind helps to drop the humidity. and the pressure is above 30.00 which is our mark of fair weather so it's really rather comfortable. yesterday the high was 48. today we will be above that, maybe even 50. it's 50 already at jfk. and 48 white plains and up to the north and west, 43 right around sussex county and new jersey. all of that way warmer than

a little northwest keeps the dry flow in but it's less than 10 miles per hour wind coming in. so it's single digits wind speeds and partly sunny skies. the low, gray clouds back to the great lakes. that will keep coming across and we will have the mix into the evening. but it keeps the temperature warm and uniform around. our computer model is showing 52, 53 this afternoon for belmar and toms river. here's the temperature at midnight. 41 in the park on the guidance. 39 belmar. 38 toms river. so chilly but not harsh. you know, and tomorrow morning, in the upper 30s, low 40s. and then we're back into the low and hid-40s again tomorrow afternoon. so we're counting down to midnight to great weather looking at partly cloudy, a light wind so no blasting winds anywhere around times square. looking at 41 for the low. and tomorrow, sunshine kicking

and into the weekend too, 42 on saturday. and 43 on sunday. and as i mentioned, the normal high temperature is 39. so these areas of fog breaking off now and breaks of sunshine, 48 degrees and should have a good looking sunset. 37 is the overnight temperature. clouds and sun tomorrow, and right around 45, a little cooler than today's near 50. but we are going to be looking at a beautiful weekend with temperatures in the low 40s. and at night, in the 30s. 29 sunday night is the low. and into monday, our coldest day of the winter so far, a cold blast on monday. much of time the temperature is going to be below normal and below freezing much of the day on monday. and notice next week, we warm right back up. so it goes back right back up to 45 by wednesday of next week. so it's going to be a really nice evening. just enjoy it. and enjoy the evening tonight with the nice weather. travel safely. >> that will help. >> new year's eve plans?

louis bonacasa has arrived on long island. he was killed by a suicide bomber in afghanistan. nypd detective joseph lemm also died in the attack. he was laid to rest yesterday. bonacasa's wake is scheduled to begin at 2:00 this afternoon. bill cosby's attorney calls the arrest a political maneuver. yesterday the tv star was charged with sexually assaulting a woman at his home in 2004. cosby could face up to a decade in prison if convicted. he will return to court in mid- january. good afternoon again. i'm david norvarro. >> and we begin this half hour with the new year's eve tragedy. a 20-year-old college student from new jersey falls to his death while scaling the four seasons hotel. >> conner cummings was taking pictures when he fell nine stories from the high-rise. kala rama has the details.

investigators spent the early morning hours at the four seasons hotel. he came to the hotel with his friend to take pictures. police say he and his 18-year- old were trespassing. he fell nine stories down a shaft just after 11:00 last night. investigators recovered the photography equipment they were using. >> he was with one friend and the friend called his mother, i don't know how long conner was laying there at all before they called the police. the police are inside. i asked them, one said longer, one said no too long but i can't get like an absolute answer. >> reporter: she is his aunt who says something doesn't add up. she described her nephew as a photography buff but not a daredevil. >> we're trying to get answers. they said he went up the elevator and then a stairway and a balcony but the cops aren't saying exactly what happened.

was up there. i mean, he's a good kid. they weren't drinking. they were taking a picture. >> reporter: the friend was able to climb down ask call for help but he was pronounced dead at the scene. the family is from new jersey. he was attending college in massachusetts. outside the four seasons hotel in midtown, kala rama, channel 7 eyewitness news. >> thank you. new at noon, police have released video of the man who pretended to be police officers during a robbery in the bronx. watch as the victim stops the video. this is on december 14th. car pulls up behind and four men get out. police say the men identified themselves as police and ordered the driver and his passengers out of the minivan. one of the men hopped in the van and drove off. the others drive away in the car. police are searching for the man who slashed two people inside a mcdonald's in manhattan. investigators say an employee tried to break up a fight

the the restaurant at 58th and 3rd avenue at about 8:30 last night. that's when another man stepped in and slashed the worker in the leg with a box cutter. he also cut one of the men involved in the fight. both the victims were treated and released from the hospital. it is unclear what sparked the original brawl. and new details in the case of the texas teen known for using the affluenza defense. the boy's motherrer is now back in the united states, tonya couch was escorted by u.s. marshals this morning through los angeles airport. she is charged with the apprehension of her 18-year- old son ethan. he remains in mexico after winning a delay in deportation. immigration proceedings could take weeks. now to the flooding that is ravaging the midwest. officials in missouri and illinois helping people move to higher ground amid fears that the already deadly conditions could worsen. we are live in missouri. >> reporter: that's right, even

>> flood in the winter is very dangerous. everybody keep a good attitude while. >> reporter: missouri not the only flooded state. here. my shoes are all wet because it's so deep. >> reporter: parts of north carolina, florida and georgia also hit with rare winter flooding, all part of the same system that sent temperatures soaring 50 degrees above normal in the north pole and spawned deadly tornadoes in texas. according to the national weather and traffic never more than seven minutes away service, this year, there were 74 tornadoes in north central 1950. and back here in missouri, that right there is the merrimack river that is overflowing and flooding on to a major highway. the river crested this morning meaning that the water should start to recede. the concern is that we are

>> reporter: overnight, new photos from inside the air canada flight that was forced to divert because of severe you the blueness. >> there are four serious injuries. will require assistance. >> reporter: oxygen masks deployed, trash on the floor, all a result of the turbulence which tossed the plane around. >> it was like in the roller coaster, the plane was just going down. and lots of screaming. >> just hoping to extricate one person. >> reporter: some of the passenger removed on stretchers with neck braces. in all, 21 passengers including three children were hurt and taken to local hospitals. the boeing 777 was carrying 351 passengers and crew on a flight to toronto. but over western north america, the turbulence hurt and diversion to calgary.

a former beauty queen is charged with scamming more than 160 people out of money by lying about having cancer. prosecutors say she raised almost $30,000 through fund raisers and they say the miss pennsylvania us international claimed to be diagnosed with leukemia in 2013, going so far as so hey her head. she pleaded not guilty but was stripped of her crown and her

well, this has been an emotional holiday season for teresa giudice known for her role on the real housewives of new jersey. >> and now out of prison, she is at home with her family sharing a new year's message with fans. david wright has the story. >> reporter: here she is back home in new jersey, a real housewife again. >> i'm like crying. >> reporter: out shopping for groceries, settling back into the routine. teresa giudice posted a video message to the fans that stood by her during what had to be a difficult year. >> hi, everyone. i'm back. i just want to wish everyone a happy new year. it's going to be a great 2016. >> reporter: the past year, orange was the new black ifer this reality show superstar. at the federal correctional institution in connecticut. after she and her husband pled guilty to 41 counts of fraud. teresa giudice served 11 months behind bars.

her family but she has just a few months with her husband and joe will then have to go to prison to serve his sentence. >> reporter: joe is facing 41 months in prison. >> we heard from their lawyer that this experience has brought them closer. >> reporter: the couple's money woes continue, having fought off foreclosure proceedings on their new jersey mansion, they still have $413,000 in restitution to wells fargo plus the irs hit them with a $551,000 lien for unpaid taxes but she still came home to an early christmas present, a brand new lexus suv tied with a bow. presumably, nobody flipped the table at this year's christmas dinner. this one had lots of group hugs. bravo cameras reportedly documenting the whole scene. harsh reality can wait. she has no public appearances planned.

low humidity, pressure right at 30. gorgeous. northport, 46. it's 52 down the jersey shore. way warm for this time of the year. we should be at 39 degrees and about 29 to the north and west. and we have clouds that will keep coming across and with the warm air, kind of mixing in here, we will see the temperature 47 to 52 this afternoon. tonight, as we get into the evening hour, we're going to see the temperature at midnight around 40, 41 degrees. and that's really mild for this time of the year. 51 is was back in 1965. the last two years it's been in teens. so we're going to get a break from that. and that will be welcomed because tonight at midnight, partly cloudy sky, 41 degrees, and rather comfortable. and 43 on. and those are warmer than normal for this time of the year. this afternoon, 48 to 50. tonight, 41 at midnight and 37 overnight.

we want to take you back to the breaking news out of dubai. you can see a fire breaking out on a haze rise building. at least 20 stories of that building which by the way is near the world's largest tallest skyscraper. this happening near a new year's eve fireworks display is

the time there is 9:55 so it's well before new year's eve. but something happened, we're not sure what sparked it. it's not immediately clear if anyone was wounded but we know that some burning debris has come down from the building. you can see how intense the flames are and how big a fire this. we will continue to follow the latest on this as the news comes into us. >> not midnight there so maybe the crowds aren't gathered exactly in the area. let's hope not. time now for the feed. the stories that got their start on social media and are now getting shared and retweeted. here's one. a staten island woman working hard to try to give away a wedding ring. the ring was found in the pocket of these pants. she bought the pants for her husband online. when he tried them on, he found the ring and now his wife is on a nationwide search for the owner. they were shipped from tyson's corner, virginia. >> a lot of questions for that. and another question. many questions are worthy of
