cameras showed the suspect crossing the street, heading eastbound. then he reappears. amanda tells me he was walking in front of her and slowed down. >> i walked past him and something hit me in the face and i thought maybe he punched me and i thought maybe i broke my nose because i felt blood. >> reporter: amanda tells me she doesn't know this suspect, never said a word to him. he ran off eastbound on 23rd street. she never got a good look at his face. >> he was kind of fumbling around. i could tell he didn't have anywhere he was going specifically. he was just out there waiting for something, i guess waiting for me. >> reporter: she went to the hospital, needed seven stitches to close the wound. >> what would you say to this man? >> i don't know what i did to deserve that. i was in the wrong place at the wrong time. >> reporter: tonight detectives at the 1-3 precinct are asking for the public's help in tracking down this man. as for

>> i'm going to take a couple days off then probably just change my work schedule, not work mornings anymore for a while at least. >> amanda told police she believes her attacker is between the age of 25 and 30. he appeared to be 5'7" to 5'10". he was wearing that red jacket, possible with nba lettering on it. he was wearing a green hoodie underneath. he had black pants with a white stripe down the side. and white sneakers. if you saw anything or know anything, call police. for now we're live in bushwick, kemberly richardson, channel 7 eyewitness news. from a frightening story we go to a shocking story. a father accused of killing his pregnant woman missing since sunday. this morning her strangled and beaten body discovered in the crawl space of the house she lived in with her dad. >> the victim, 39-year-old andrea caruth ran a daycare center there. her father

>> darla miles in the bronx. >> police believe 39-year-old andrea caruth was possibly beaten to death in the head with a hammer by her own father. they believe they had an ongoing dispute about a second mortgage he had taken out on the house. >> [ inaudible ] she told me she was pregnant. she was so nice. >> reporter: it was just a month ago when andrea caruth told her next door neighbor she was pregnant. now both mother and child are gone. >> i feel so bad for her, she died like that. oh, god. i am so sorry. somebody shouldn't die like that. >> reporter: 61-year-old william caruth is now charged in the death of his daughter and unborn grandchild. the body found stuffed underneath plywood in a basement crawl space that had been hollowed out around 3 a.m. wednesday.

seen going down sunday. that's where her father lived and where police believe she was killed. her boyfriend had been questioned most of the day but is expected to be released. >> i miss her. i love her. >> i got pregnant at 37, 38. so i was -- that was her first child. it's just sad. >> reporter: the 39-year-old expectnt mother ran a daycare from her home. she took over the operation from her father. >> to see her play with the kids, she had a daycare center i think. she was a nice lady. very quiet. kept to herself. >> reporter: the medical examiner says caruth was both beaten in the head and strangled to death. >> she was a happy lady. a very kind lady.

her but she feel it deep down. it's too sad. >> this is a live look at the 47th precinct where 61-year-old william caruth is being held in the death of his daughter. at some point tonight he will be leaving that 37th precinct station and headed to central booking. a lot of questions have been asked today why investigators were not able to find the body on the first search but apparently they searched the house but investigators say it was only after a second search where dogs were brought in where they detected those remains. darla miles, channel 7 eyewitness news. from the bronx to long island where tonight a priest is under arrest accused of buying crack cocaine. 63-year-old robert lebron--robert lubrano arrested overnight. he told police he's been smoking crack since last year.

murdered by his nephew who later killed himself. two men who worked on the farm of a murdered westchester county socialite now under arrest, but not for murder, police investigating the murder of lois colley discovered another crime. two laborers are accused of stealing hay worth tens of thousands of dollars over several years. police do not believe the murder and thefts were connected. colley was found dead in her home on the 300-acre estate. still no arrest for her murder. they're overrun by vermin, peeling lead paint. it's so bad many homeless people refuse to stay there. this at a time of record homelessness and a frantic to deal with the crisis. dave evans.

last couple weeks is the mayor and his staff responding very quickly to the city's growing homeless crisis. today it was all about much needed repairs and city operated shelters. some of the residents today asking what took you so long? >> reporter: this afternoon on the mayor's order construction crews hit the flatlands family residence, a shelter badly in need of repair and with lots of roaches. an audit and followup by the city controller found 53% of all city shelters infested with rodents and roaches. >> 23,000 children will sleep in homeless shelters. i've issued a report, sent it to city conditions these kids are sleeping in. unacceptable. >> reporter: in all, 58,000 new yorkers sleep in city shelters every night. another 3,000 or 4,000 refuse to go. they stay

>> if those shelters are as dirty and dangerous as they are, you'll never get people off the streets. >> reporter: a history of problems. this mother of three would be homeless without the help, but she doesn't like it here. the department of buildings lists drained backup, gray and black dust coming in to one, lots of rats and roaches as well. >> we have the rofepss coming -- the roaches coming out of crevices. it's everything. >> if you had a chance to say something to the mayor, what would you ask him to do? >> it would be nice to help us to move out. >> reporter: but the mayor is now promising swift action, repairs, a response within 24 hours and more inspectors at all city shelters. >> we want an absolute and total list of all violations and problems. we want that. we want that so we can own the

governor cuomo about the less than postmodern condition of penn station. >> it's one of the busiest transportation hubs in the country and one of the least attractive as well. mr. cuomo proposing a penn station overhaul. >> joe torres tweeting out the sketches. here's joe's report. >> it is dark, it is constrained, it is ugly. >> reporter: with just a few words, governor andrew cuomo summarized the miserable experience suffered by the 650,000 people who travel every work day. >> it's tough. it's very crowded. a lot of people don't care too much about where you're going, how fast you're trying to get there. >> this afternoon the governor unveiled an ambitious plan for the transportation hub. the plan calls for a comprehensive redevelopment of penn station along with the construction of a modern and spacious train hall at the post office then a brand new passageway linking the two structures.

together they'll double the capacity, if not triple the capacity making one complex which we call the empire state station. >> reporter: the governor referred to his plan as a tremendous undertaking. the chairman of one watchdog group had a different description. >> lipstick on a pig. this is not going to change one iota for commuters in terms of their transportation time, velocity, and ease of traveling. >> reporter: commuters meantime ask the question that was never answered at the governor's news conference. >> we could easily say it needs an upgrade but where's the money coming from? where do you find money to do that? >> reporter: perhaps through public-private partnerships couple would federal and state funding but it's the failure to lock in all of that cooperation that's derailed expansion and redevelopment plans here for years. at penn station, joe news. a restaurant on long island that takes people back in time the mill

weekend is no longer looking like a washout. we'll have a soaking rain. maybe that's about eight hours but looks like that's focused on sunday morning. a lot of clouds on saturday and maybe a touch of drizzle. a good soaking sunday morning. we could dry out in the afternoon and be pretty mild. not in new jersey right now. 33 in east rutherford. long island be low freezing and 32 in belmar. 39 in poughkeepsie, white plains. below freezing in new york city. close to the 30-degree mark tomorrow morning. teens and 20s in the suburbs. add a few degrees and you have tomorrow. mainly clear right now. by our wind stream lines you can see high pressure east of atlantic city and sliding offshore. that's good news because we're on the western side of the high. 45 to 50s. that's where we're then we look to this storm developing over the gulf and in to the rockies. not much of a storm for us. a couple sprinkles but when we focus on the west coast, big soaking

sweep across the southern tier of the country and hook up in to the ohio valley and give us a big rainstorm. it's a fast mover but looks like a soaking saturday and sunday morning. definitely chilly again. teens, winds north and west. tomorrow low and mid 30s. mainly clear and chilly tonight. teens in the coldest spots. tomorrow up to 43. partly cloudy and right around freezing tomorrow night. 20s in the suburbs. 7-day accuweather forecast. late clouds on friday. the closer we get to it, looks like the sun is going to be with us through the midday and early afternoon. then clouds will thicken up. that skinny strip of broken showers will get here friday night and early saturday morning. sunday, especially in the morning hours could be heavy rain and wind could be storming for a while and hopefully dry out in the afternoon. if not even clear a little bit late day. monday we get back to the colder temperatures. 36 on tuesday. that may be optimistic and then the question is will

about to double their presence in the baseball hall of fame. mike piazza who hit more home runs than any other catcher in big league history was elected to the hall minutes ago. came in as pick number 1,390 in the 1988 draft. went on to a 16-year career, 12 all star teams, 427 career home runs. played almost a thousand games with the mets. he wrote in his autobiography he wants to go in to the hall as a met, joining tom seaver as the only other met in the hall. piazza has waited a few years. 83% of the vote. the wait now over. induction in coop erstown july 24th. joining piazza on that date, ken griffey, jr. griffey was name on all but three ballots. griffey is sixth on the all time home run list. heck of an outfield as well.

jets defensive end muhammad wilkinson scheduled for surgery today. he was injured sunday at the loss in buffalo. he's officially a free agent. if all goes well he should be ready for training camp somewhere this summer. nets and raptors battling brooklyn. knicks won their 17th game of the season last night in atlanta. they won 17 games all of last season. what fans liked seeing was rookie chrisops porzingis. carmelo anthony steps in. anthony had 17 points, 11 rebounds, seven assists, although after this scene we can see he really had eight assists. >> got chippy a little bit but what's a good basketball game without some chippiness? >> it's an example for all of us that we've got to step up and perform that way. that stuff happens. good to see that my teammates have my back. in the nhl the devils in montreal tonight. today the league filled out the all star rosters.
