were walking in osbourne playground in brownsville when it happened. our kemberly richardson is there, and she spoke with the victim today. >> reporter: i also spoke with her father, but the victim in this case tells me while these men were raping her, she did scream out for help. she saw people driving by but no one stopped. the alleged attack happened here behind me in this park near the handball park. it isn't isolated. there are homes in this area. this surveillance video you're looking at police say it's of the five suspects. it was taken inside a nearby bodega before the attack. the 18-year-old victim tells me she was sitting in the park with her father having a drink thursday night after nine. to protect their identities, we're not showing their faces or using their names. five men who they don't know walked up to them and pointed a gun in his face and told him to run. he says he didn't have a cell

into a nearby bodega and asked for help, the same store the suspects had been in. he asked the worker to call police but that worker wouldn't. the father then ran out of that store and fortunately spotted two uniformed nypd officers who ran back to the playground with him. by then, he says, about 15 minutes had passed, and the suspects were gone. >> she wasn't there, so i spotted her across the street, you know, coming. i told the officer, that's her right there. that's her right there, and she fell to the floor, you know, she collapsed. if i would have stood there. >> reporter: you thought you would have died. >> they meant business, you know. they wasn't playing. >> reporter: he told me he felt like if he had stayed and challenged them, they would have shot and possibly killed him. again, this alleged rape happened here in this playground. it's osbourne playground. thursday night just after nine.

hear from the victim. you'll also hear from president eric adams, his criticism on how police handled this case, and you'll hear the pd's reaction and the mayor. for now we're live in brownsville, kemberly richardson channel 7 eyewitness news. police on long island arrest a suspect in connection with a deadly shooting of a 12- year-old girl inside her home. dejah joyner died after a stray bullet hit her in the head back in october. the girl was enjoying dinner with her family in their home in hempstead when the put pierced the window. police tell eyewitness news the accused gunman was taken into custody earlier today. a storm system dropped rain today. strong winds whipped up waves in rock away beach and queens, board walk. new jersey saw its share of flooding. a viewer sent us this video from avalon, along a swamped

a similar site in manesquan. a line of thunderstorms is making it through the area. meteorologist jeff smith is here with the accuweather forecast. >> there was a lot of water in a relatively short period of time this morning. nearly 2 inches in part of the area. 1.8 inches in the park in caldwell, and the wind was also a big factor before the front moved on through. gusted up to 30 miles per hour in central park but up to 60 miles per hour at islip, and a 71 miles per hour wind gust at 9:20 this morning during the brunt of this storm. and also as the secondary line of thunderstorms has been moving in from the west, there was some hail reported, .3-inch diameter hail in northwestern parts of new jersey. still have a flood advisory. this is mainly due to rainfall that has already fallen over northern parts of summerset, western morris county in new jersey.

another 12 minutes or so. some of the creeks and smaller streams in the area are still running near bankful. you see on the radar, there's the line of storms that moved through the city, actually created a lot of rainbows as it moved on by. now it's exiting to the east in parts of long island and the jersey shore. heavy downpours over monmouth. southern parts of nassau, extending into parts of fairfield county in connecticut. those are moving to the east. the big story tonight, the temperatures which are very exceptionally mild right now. rapidly falling down to 40 by midnight and down to freezing by 7:00 in the morning. any standing water that we have out here could potentially freeze overnight tonight. we have eyewitness news reporter a.j. ross right now. she's in newark checking out flooding in that area. what do you have out there? >> reporter: as you touched on today's earlier down pours definitely causinged flash flooding throughout newark today, forcing closures at

i want to show you this busy intersection behind me. it was closed for a period of time today. it recently reopened. but let me show you some video shot earlier along newark turnpike where several cars were forced to slow down near this onramp to 280 west, with popping and flooding creating an obstacle course of sorts. nearby signs gave drivers enough warning to proceed with caution, and at least two cars driving here along wilson avenue missed the memo and were quickly flooded out and abandoned until they could be later towed away. police closed down wilson avenue for a duration of time this afternoon, but as jeff mentioned, the worst is over, so these problem areas, these flood prone areas here in newark, they have probably seen the worst earlier today, and won't have to worry so much into the evening hours. live in newark, a.j. ross channel 7 eyewitness news. >> thank you very much a. j. to stay on top of weather

the form of snow. >> funny business, that's what we're calling it now. >> thanks jeff. >> thank you, sir. the woman who the fbi says went on a crime spree across the south is now behind bars. she's accused of robbing half a dozen jewelry stores in five states. authority now say the multitude of good tips they received led to her arrest. channel 7 eyewitness news' marcy gonzalez has the story. >> reporter: in an atlanta jail accused of committing a string of armed jewelry store robberies across five states. kemp was arrested yesterday after the fbi investigation into six violent heists led them to this cobb county home, and the suspect 26 years 26 old. >> if you're seduced by the rush, it doesn't matter your age. it becomes intoxicating and the idea that you can do a 4th, a 5th, in her case, at least 6.

affidavit revealing new details about each crime, explaining they were carried out much like the one caught on camera at this reed's jewelers in florida. there the documents allege kemp at gunpoint ordered two store employees into the restroom, zip tied their hand and made them lay face down on the floor. this man stood at the door as a look out, while kemp took $400,000 worth of jewelry from the display case, getting away minutes before police say a ups delivery man walked in and found the employees still tied up, the fbi revealing kemp's cell phone pinged towers near three of the six robbery locations during the time those robberies were committed. investigators saying that information along with tips from people who recognize kemp from these surveillance images helped lead to they are arrest. >> each crime scene gives you a different set of photos, additional information about the person, then they drew a b down on her and eventually

an upgrade to penn station is in the works, and commuters say it can't come soon enough. >> new york governor cuomo unveiled a plan last week to overhaul the busiest transportation hub in the country. >> it is dark. it is constrained. it is ugly. >> reporter: with just a few words, governor andrew cuomo summarized the miserable experience for the people who travel through penn station each and every workday. >> it's tough. it's very crowded. a lot of people don't really care too much about where you're going, or how fast you're trying to get there. >> reporter: the governor unveiled an ambitious plan for
