cold then all eyes are on the chance for a snowstorm headed our way for the weekend. good evening at 11:00. >> it's another bitter night out there. those outside bundling up to stay safe in these bitter temperatures. aj ross is in bayonne. >> we're going to begin with meteorologist lee goldberg. >> learning things by the minute. here's what's new at 11:00. the bitter gusts are subsiding. we'll go back above freezing for the first time since sunday. now our forecasts only get more precise. the storm track has been trending south but not enough to spare the area from a significant snowstorm. the wind gusts are starting to back off. they're still rather bitter and gusting over 30 in spots.

reading of 21 will take. it's been in the single digits much of the day. temperatures in the teens. then they get closer to 30 during the afternoon. this is the storm that will evolve in to our east coast snowstorm. it dived down in to the south. that was depicted 200 miles north and east of this position. when i showed you that at 6:00. again the track trending farther south. the one closer would be more snow. farther south, less snow, but still accumulating snow. the snow is going to hold off till friday night. friday okay. early saturday morning

driver stayed at the scene. the woman is in critical condition. the girl was seriously hurt but expected to survive. no charges are expected to be filed against the driver. new at 11:00, a long work day made even longer by a frustrating commute through penn station. a domino effect from a disabled train forcing dozens of lirr trains to be canceled. many more long delayed because of congestion as the railroad operated on a single track. all of this leaving thousands of people staring at the train schedule in disbelief. a contentious face-off in new jersey tonight over proposed plan to build a muslim community center. demonstrators on both sides of the issue protested outside city hall in bayonne today before a public meeting to discuss the issue. local muslims want to convert a vacant warehouse on 24th street in to their community center. the zoning vote on the project is expected next week. new tonight, a serial armed robber on the loose on long island tonight. nearly two dozen robberies in the past year.

all of them, the robber brandished a knife. tonight cops in nassau county putting out the thief, hoping to catch him. here's sandra bookman. >> take a good look. this is the knife-wielding bandit police say has preyed on small businesses for nearly a year. >> the subject is brazen and aggressive, and has injured one victim's arm. >> reporter: since february of 2015, 21 businesses have been robbed from gas stations to pharmacies to pizza shops in six 13 alone. police say the same suspect hit charlene's gift store here four times and the ultramart just down the street on three different occasions. >> we believe he's staking out the store. he makes sure there is nobody else in the store most of the time and he's very quick. he's in and he's out.

the suspect about 5'10" to 6 feet tall usually wearing a ski mask or scarf covering his face. as he did when he hit this gas station just two days ago, he takes cash, lottery tickets, and cigarettes and makes his getaway on foot. a $5,000 reward is being offered for information leading to his arrest. in valley stream, long island, sandra bookman, channel 7 eyewitness news. police tonight releasing clear images of a suspect wanted in a random slashing attack in the east village. take a good look. investigators say this is the man who slashed a social saturday. anthony christopher-smith needed 150 stitches to close the wound on his face. doctors also had to hours of surgery. the three columbia students who died in a bus accident last week in honduras tonight remembered on campus in school.
