around 7:00 tonight four hours ago, an ambulance was taking a patient to stony brook university hospital when for some strange reason the patient jumped out of the moving vehicle on to busy nickels road just south of the long island expressway. why that person jumped, we don't know. the patient was then run over by a car that did not stop and kept going southbound. that victim was pronounced dead at the scene. suffolk police are investigating and this stretch of roadway will remain closed until they finish gathering the evidence that they need. as of now there is no description of the car that hit that patient that kept going and no word on why that patient jumped out of the ambulance in the first place. also we've reached out to the ambulance company. hunter ambulance ems. we've not heard back just yet. reporting live in holtsville, carolina leid, channel 7 eyewitness news. the nypd tonight searching for a dangerous armed robber

random in the streets of manhattan. police released a surveillance image of the man they're now looking for. they say he's responsible for at least five robberies since december. in each robbery the man follows the victim in to a building lobby or an elevator, then pulls out a gun and demands cash and their belongings. a new york cop stabbed during a violent confrontation today in brooklyn tonight is recovering at home. officers responding to a call in prospect heights about an emotionally disturbed woman. they say the woman stabbed the lieutenant in the left arm before other cops subdued her. the woman now in custody. free testing for the zika virus is now being offered by the new york state department of health for anyone presenting symptoms after traveling to virus zones. the world health organization is now calling the virus an international emergency. experts estimate there could be up to 4 million cases diagnosed in the next year. new yorkers who want to be tested should see their own doctor.
