anxiety that commuters are feeling. hours after the mayor and police commissioner said commuters would notice a more presence. in subways across the city, wednesday evening, a woman walking through a turn style at 7th avenue and 49th street was with something sharp. she went to the hospital and needle. >> just generally terrifying as day. >> reporter: so far this year there have been ten stabbings or slashings in the subway. that's double the number from last year during the same time. mayor de blasio addressed commuter anxiety this morning on radio station hot 97. >> it's obviously distressing to people. the fact is, they are they are not related. >> reporter: and undercover officers will back up the 2800 officers already assigned to the city's transit system full time. officers have new orders to wake up any sleeping passengers

we are learning new details about an exclusive "eyewitness news" exclusive, that is, involving a newark by officers. the new work police department confirms that its officers with are involved in that essex county prosecutor taking over the investigation. 14-year-old jamod watkins was leaving a bodega tuesday when he says several unmarked cars with flashing lights approached him. the teen says he ran because he was frightened. he also says when he asked for medical attention after being jumped, the officers left him in the middle of the street. it is mild and spring-like out there, but that may all change. tomorrow you may wake up to snow in spots. we have a look at the accuweather forecast. bill? >> yes, it's a lot, a nuisance and will create problems.

it will present itself at the on a friday. we have cloudy skies right now. the snow we're talking about will develop coming out of this big ole batch of moisture as the front is backing up and moisture is riding up to us. that will be coming in later this evening. about what time? late tonight. for me, late anyway, about 11:00 tonight. then after midnight, we'll be looking at that to snow because the colder air that. you see the line is running from connecticut all the way down through the urban areas of new jersey to trenton. that may back up just a little bit, but by 8:00 tomorrow, you see that line starts to spread eastward and will be a little more as far as larger amounts of snow, coastal connecticut and long island. then we get sunshine by tomorrow afternoon. it comes during the morning commute. what do we expect? even as sussex and warren county, there could be flakes, flurries, a trace to maybe a coating to an inch. then around the five boroughs,

now to the latest on the zika virus. new york state is expanding free testing to include all pregnant women who traveled to countries impacted by it. some are calling for this summer's olympics to brazil to be canceled. abc news is being told they are keeping a close eye on the situation. health officials have confirmed zika through a blood transfusion in that country. wikileaks founder julian assange is being arbitrarily detained. he avoided extradition to sweden over sex assault claims. if the u.n. panel rules in favor of him, british officials will not be able to detain him and swedish prosecutors may not be able to question him. we could get the formal ruling

the sun coming through here around orange and sullivan and orange county across long island. we get a little break of sun before this rain gets here. it's rain that will run up this front and with the temperatures getting cold, that's how we're going to get the snow. this afternoon, we'll look at 52, 53, 54 degrees. tonight, the rain begins around midnight. you are up above 287 and up above i-80. when the snow starts, that's going to be at i-287 and maybe eastern putnam county up to litchfield county connecticut. this is at 3:00 a.m. look at the temperatures that are above freezing. you won't see any snow here so you won't see this nothing coming down hard particularly fairfield, new haven, connecticut and parts of the jersey shore. it just coats roadways enough. you can see the temperatures still falling here. we're not looking at a lot of

kristin thorn is live in belmar with the details. kristin? >> residents have been complaining to town officials for years that the spots at the lirr stations are constantly being taken by people from outside of the town from suffolk county, for example, and they say obviously that is not fair to them as taxpayers. so town officials announced that they have a plan to increase the amount of spots available to town residents from 2400 spots to 6400 spots. these are the parking lots, the lirr parking lots that will have the additional spots. these are the sticker permits that will be available to town residents for $10 a year. this plan still has to be on by the town board on february 9th, but it is expected to pass. the new parking rules, again, if this passes, would go into effect april 1st. it will leave only 1200 spots for people who live outside of

coast of new jersey. this has happened and the coast guard helicopter crew based in atlantic city received a call about an injured fisherman. the man was taken into the chopper and then taken into a nearby hospital. no word on his condition. a town in connecticut is considering a program that would arm teachers at its only school, the kent board of education in litchfield county. they'll look at an emergency response program that will provide trauma kits and firearms training to school personnel. the program would also allow anonymous volunteers to carry weapons at the prek through eighth grade school. police are out with new surveillance showing teens targeting cell phone stores in the bronx. in the past two weeks, they hit two stores getting away with cash and phones. one store was on west tremont and the other on white plains road. in one case, clerk in the face before leaving the store.

now to an "eyewitness news" exclusive as we hear from the family of the new jersey boy recovering from an attack of a rabid raccoon. 6-year-old aryan has already received one round of rabies shot since the attack in front of his home. the raccoon literally jumped the little boy biting and scratching him more than a week ago. the neighbor danny wall used a painters pole to kill the animal. the family is grateful walls was walking by. >> he's like an angel, really. he helped me and aryan. the whole family is thankful. >> reporter: the family says he is recovering well. the parents have created a go fund me page seeking donations to help with his medical bills and providing updates on his progress. there are concerns the water crisis in flint, michigan causing an increase in skin rashes.

the federal government and michigan officials are pointing fingers at each other over the lead contamination crisis. the epa told congress the state ignored advice to treat its water. michigan officials say the epa didn't express enough urgency about the problem. cleanup is under way in the southeast following a second night of severe storms that generated tornadoes. officials in tennessee say an ef-1 tornado tore through a school, damaging classrooms. luckily, the school day was over in south carolina. dozens of homes and vehicles were damaged by another twister and more than 50 people in georgia were by the military to other shelters. several drivers were rescued from their cars in atlanta. >> how lucky. let's turn meteorologist bill evans with the after-school forecast. >> some of that moisture coming

in federal court saying that mozzarella sticks actually have fake cheese inside of them. chris howell says he wants his money back, and he wants the company to pay others who may have been misled. the company's web site says that the sticks have 100% mozzarella inside. the lawsuit, however, says they have more fillers than food labeling laws allow. the restaurant chain disagrees and is fighting the lawsuit. a random act of kindness at an apple store has become a viral story about an 8-year-old boy. chase locke spent more than a year in the hospital battling brain cancer. now that he's out, school is important to him. so when chase and his mom went to the apple store, chase sat in the corner and did his homework and the apple employee convinced the store owner to give an an apple nano to list
