scaffolding on the top floor when he was knocked unconscious. a chunk of concrete fell onto his head. he was outside the building secured by a rope. as he was doing demolition work. this happened at 2:30 this afternoon. but when the emt's arrived, the power to the elevator shaft was out. so rescuers had to perform a high angle rescue. >> we put the stretcher into an interior shaftway because it wouldn't fit in the construction elevator. and they were having trouble with the construction elevator. there were power issues -- so we had him in the interior shaft like a basket all the way down. >>reporter: meanwhile, this was not the first time workers were injured here. last year, two workers were

life-threatening injury and another sustaining minor injuries. the building inspectors are on-site right now. again, one construction worker in critical condition. reporting live. okay, stephan, thank you. now, to the latest of the deadly crane collapse. work is on the street in tribeca. and the investigation is only the beginning. now we have heard that two people have been treated and released from the hospital. a firefighter also treated and released. one man remains at bellview hospital. we got an update from city officials. we are live in tribeca. a.j.. sandra and joe, remains of this crane tonight as rescuers continue to remove what's left. i'm told they're taking their time because they don't want to

may help pinpoint the cause of this tragedy. the crane now mangled and twist edit along the street are in the process of being cut into 35 pieces to be shipped and analyzed so investigators can find out what caused this accident. they discussed the retraohrvl of the crane's -- retrieval of the crane's recording. and with the help of 4 additional cranes and several crews, officials expect the entire removal process to last through tomorrow morning. >> the main point is to cut nem locations that doesn't compromise the forensic engineering value so that we can have experts study how these pieces fail. >> hopefully they'll just be safer. you know, i think it's just unlucky.

felony charges tonight for allegedly trying to sexually assault a student. 21 wolfgaining balancing are ballinger is now held on $25,000 bail. police report says he tried to rape a female student inside his bedroom. ballinger is the president of the local chapter. his father runs the music club webster hall in the east village. in this video clip, ballinger boasted $3,000 a day while running the bar at his club. criminal charges are taking center stage. the fraternity has also been placed on interim suspension. >>reporter: now i left a message at the club tonight for a response. no word yet from webster hall. the attorney says his innocence

we'll have more on this at 6. all right lucy. thank you very much. the search continues right now in taiwan for at least 100 people still missing after a deadly earthquake there. the 6.4 magnitude earthquake caused an apartment complex to collapse. this is video of the rescue workers pulling young children from the rubble. this video shows the exact moment the earthquake struck. at least 14 people were killed. about 2,000 firefighters and soldiers have been combing through the ruins using ladders and cranes and any other equipment they can. they're trying to clear away enough rubble to reach those who are trapped. a close call when a pilot lost control in a helicopter. they say he was practicing landings this afternoon at linden airport when the helicopter tipped over.

one of them suffered a leg injury. the faa is investigating. police gate the death of a stabbing of a man in the bronx. the attack happened at east 161stst street and river avenue. police say the man was stabbed in the chest and arm. another man, a 27-year-old was slashed on his hand. both victims were taken to the hospital where the older man died. investigators took jesus flores into custody at the scene. he has been charged with murder. a major rabbit adoption event took place in manhattan today. you heard that right. they rescued about 150 rabbits from a home in guanis brooklyn last january. the animal care and hospital nursed them back to health. many were adopted but about 15

series of baby showers for expecting and new parents today. first lady kicked off the series of showers today. families received clothing, diapers and baby supplies and they had a chance to connect with community and support programs all in one place. meanwhile, one of the city's foremost cultural institutions invited families out of the cold. lincoln center held its first ever winter warm-up event. children and their parents were invited to dance the cold away at a silent disco dance never. never heard of that. [laughter] the event also featured live ice sculpture carving. .

going to be a week of some wintery weather here? yeah. had they all come together, it could have been a really big storm. but i don't think that's going to happen. it's going to be intermittent periods of snow on monday and wednesday. might not add up to a whole lot. over long island, maybe a different story. talk about that in just a minute. right now, head outside. and it's a pretty nice evening out there. get temperatures up around 40 degrees in the afternoon. right now sitting at the 38-degree mark. that wind coming out of the southwest. again, after a morning low of 30, almost right on target for this time of the year. the record set back in 2008. nice and mild tomorrow. sunshine. middle to upper 40s. upper 40s probably here in new york city. it will be colder and cold enough for snow and i think there will be intermittent snow

watch some of that snow back in from the ocean. that's why i think parts of long island -- since they'll be closer to the storm, they have a shot of getting accumulating snow. it might be just a situation like here in the city where flakes fly in the air but don't add up to that much. but parts of long island and connecticut -- and the eastern band relegated to parts of new england. down to 33 midtown. down to 22 in some of the colder suburbs. the high getting up to 47 -- really nice. rather cloudy tomorrow night. down to 34. here's an accuweather forecast. i think the steady snow stays east of new york city. and then as we head into tuesday, there's another system that we have to watch. actually a couple other systems. one heading to the north but more importantly, this guy here

that student is a fraternity president. good evening, i'm sandra bookman. i'm joe torres. now, they blame the terrorist group for blowing a hole in the side of a passenger plane this week. today, it was confirmed the bomb was the preliminary cause. also intelligence firnlz said 6 people were arrested after -- officials said 6 people were arrested. the plane was able to land safely and one person died. a midary collision between two small planes in california is now a recovery operation. the job now of divers is find the bodies of 3 people believed to have been killed. rescuers have found wreckage and a log book. there's been no other sign of the other plane. a migrant camp in northwest

turned out at that camp. some of the antimigrant demonstrators scuffled with police and were arrested. that protest was in violation of a ban issued by the interior minister. it was one of several antimigrant protests across europe today. one of the police officers shot in the bronx was back home. doctors released patrick from the hospital yesterday. hundreds of his fellow officers surrounded him. he was shot in the cheek thursday. his partner, 24-year-old cruise was shot in the torso. she remains in the torso. they were attacked by a gunman who later killed himself. police questioned others in connection with the shooting but made no other arrests. the so-called affluenza teenager is now behind bars.

country after being arrested with his mom in mexico. the two were believed to be on the run after the video showed him playing beer pong -- violation of parole in a drunk driving crash that killed 4 people. >> he doesn't need to be housed in a juvenile facility. i feel more comfortable with him in a more secure environment. right now, couch's case is under the jurisdiction of juvenile court. a judge will make the decision about whether that changes in the future. twitter shuts down accounts that promote terrorism. the social media giant says that it has suspended over a thousand accounts. the accounts either threatened or promoted terrorist attacks. most of the accounts were either associated with or sprorth isis.

traffic controllers distracted on the job. workers watching explicit videos and taking selfies all while directing planes in the air. we discovered disciplinarian documents that show air traffic controllers doing anything but watching planes. >> for some people, it was routine. >>reporter: this person behind the shadows is a recently retired air traffic controller. she noticed more and more of her fellow controllers often distracted by their cell phones even though faa rules require all cell phones to be turned off when on duty. >> i could see people talking on the phone while they were working traffic. >>reporter: in new york air space? >> yes. >>reporter: documents collected show that 22 air traffic controllers nationwide have been disciplined for cell phone use while directing planes. while the names have been blacked out, we've learned that

controller is caught on his cell phone viewing sexually explicit material while on duty and then showing the images to coworkers. he received a 7 day suspension. in a case last year, a supervisor received a letter of reprimand for taking selfies while responsible for all traffic on the ground and in the air. >> i did see it many times. >>reporter: although she didn't want her identity revealed, this retired new york controller did want to bring attention to what she kneels a growing danger. >>reporter: did you ever see any disciplinarian action taken? >> no. they would say hey, knock it off. >>reporter: out of the cases, not one fired. consider this controller while on duty who used his cell phone for texting while guiding planes. 21 text messages in all. despite concluding that texting could have had

faa reduced his fire to a suspension. >> there is no task that requires more intense continuous concentration than being an air traffic controller. >>reporter: retired commercial airline pilot bob says the faa has got to immediately change the current rule which allows them to have their cell phones as long as it's turned off. >> if there's a single controller that's caught with his cell phone on duty, look for another job. >>reporter: in 2009, investigators found that an air traffic controller contributed to the collision over the hudson river between a small plane and helicopter that killed 9. two workers at this airport were dislind. >> how could you anything that would be a distraction? >>reporter: the faa declined our request for an interview.

we head outside right now and look toward lower manhattan. that is a pretty look there -- a crisp clean look at the skyline. partly cloudy skies, wind coming in from the southwest around 8 miles per hour. and a southwest wind will help to keep things fairly mild overnight. i don't think the city will go below freezing. we're down to 37 by 11:00 p.m. and tomorrow, being warmer than today, back up into the middle and upper 40s. right now, a foot of snow during the day yesterday in long island. that is why it's a little bit cooler over long island because you do have that deeper snow pack. m down in monticello. and see on the radar, just a few clouds there. we're going to go way south and east of the city through down

low pressure already developing. this should go to the east and take a turn toward the north. if this were to happen earlier, we'd be much more concerned about getting a blockbuster storm here. this is going to develop into a big storm over the ocean but the brunt of the storm should stay over the fish as it moves off to the east and to the north. 27 in bellmar. we're down to just above the freezing mark in central park. back up to 37 today and tomorrow. and then that storm makes a pass at us during the day and on monday. and i do expect some accumulation over the parts. this is just a preliminary map. this is subject to adjustment. if the storm shifts, obviously we'd have to pull this band farther west. but right now, the heaviest snow would be linked to parts of flynned. and with this system, there's another potential at getting
