the east end bridge. >> and a fresh layer of snow in sumter county -- covering the snow. schools in the county closed. we will be showing the districts leading kids out early today on the bottom of the screen. a live look where snow is falling. visibility as well. >> several reports on the snow and flooding. we begin with bill evans. timing it out. >> you draw a line from the hudson river and goat east. that is where the snow is occurring. over to the lower east side. 32 degrees with the snow falling. as we go into the afternoon, we will have snow showers around the area. first, we have this winter weather advisory in the five boroughs. and nassau, westchester, -- a winter storm warning in effect

island and new haven and new london. that is for higher snowfall amounts. coastal flooding, warnings from north shore, long island -- and westchester -- and on the jersey shore. until 10:00 tonight. this is for the second high tide cycle. we will be seeing another round of this flooding later on this evening and tonight -- around the second high tide cycle. if you take the hudson river -- down the jersey shore and go east -- that is pretty much where the snow is going to stay. sitting here along 684 -- this is 287 -- it is a long 95, to merritt parkway. some fair amount of snow falling. the next storm to affect us tomorrow is back here in the ohio valley. we will talk about that. for the afternoon, we will see be off and on snow -- from the line of the hudson river to the city and east. then we start to see a little bit of this break overnight.

took the misfortune of going through that water -- quickly realizing the flooding was severe. this has been the picture pretty much all morning long. severe flooding -- the good news is, the water is starting to go down. the water was at this point. now you can see behind me, it has gone down sun. not fast enough for so many people who have been waiting and watching. >> high tide came in this morning with strong wind -- causing widespread flooding across coastal sections of queens. in the rockaway is, we found water, two or 3 feet high in some places. vehicle's bumper deep in flood water. some drivers made the mistake of taking a gamble. this man in his subaru got out. >> your car stalled? >> yes. >> we found some of the worst

and other parts of the area, it looked just as bad. even school buses had to slow down. some streets looked more like small lakes. the fdny watching the water levels to make sure conditions do not become too dangerous and require evacuations. >> i have been here since 1961. i have seen a lot worse the message. >> he says this is a nuisance flooding. and as soon as it rises, it will receive -- leaving behind barely a trace of the missouri -- misery. >> this is just the norm when you live by the water. >> meanwhile, the vehicle we showed you a moment ago -- the driver said to us -- i thought about it and quickly realized -- if i want my job i should probably turn around and go a different direction.

not fast enough for so many of these drivers who are standing at their doorways and hoping at some point they can get out with their cars. then you heard bill mention a moment ago -- that round two is coming this way as well. shaping up to be a long and people across the rockaway. channel 7, eyewitness news. >> some flooding at the new jersey transit terminal in hoboken as well. the bottom of the rail bed at the train station -- but service was not disrupted. you might remember the major commuting hub was met -- badly damaged when more than 5 feet of water from the hudson river poured in during superstorm sandy in 2012. from flooding to snow, the east end of long island is seeing the worst of the snow. many schools in suffolk county canceled classes for the day. we're live in riverhead with that part of the coverage. kristin. >> reporter: here we go again for suffolk county.

that really hit the east end of long island. and again, it is the east end of long island expected to get the brunt of this storm. i want to show you riverhead -- at 58. everything is looking all right. you want to be careful if you're heading out. up to 8 inches of snow expected for some areas in suffolk county. no surprise that schools are closed today. we're going to show you some videos that we got on the lie -- around exit 71. it really was amazing to watch. as we were heading east around brentwood -- it was okay. then something happened. right when we hit -- it just got that all the sudden. traffic really slow down to a call. again, the east end of suffolk county -- a lot of areas in the hamptons will really be getting the bronze of this. up to 8 inches. if you do need to head out --

>> the derek fisher era for the new york knicks is over -- less than two seasons in. the team announced the rookie head coach has been fired after just 136 games. the team president phil jackson his hand-picked choice to lead this team just did not work out. derek fisher leaves new york with a 40-96 record. a winning percentage of just 294 -- the worst for a head coach in franchise history. the new york knicks are writing a worst losing streak and dropped nine of the last 10. a home loss to the nuggets yesterday was apparently the final straw for jackson after derek fisher admitted it was probably his fault because the team started slowly again and looked unprepared. derek fisher xers tenure began -- with some of the worst in history. they have now fallen well out of playoff contention. the new york knicks were scheduled to practice today.

>> continues today. much of it on a street that is still closed to traffic after the crane collapse. over the weekend, the 565-foot crane was dismantled and taken away by truck to a secure location. that allowed people who work in the area to return. williams was coming back to her office. >> it did not sit well with me. i did not like the way it was looking in the first place. >> after it collapsed, you decided to stay home? i stayed home. >> in the area, are several large new york law school evacuated. the crane fell right in front of this building. students and faculty could return to classrooms and offices. now everything is open. >> everything is open. the water is fixed. >> on sunday, mayor bill de blasio will announce a plan to increase safety with large construction cranes being operated. there will be new restrictions

conditions. and increased enforcement of pedestrian safety. >> any situation where there is securing of a crane and pedestrians are not supposed to pass in the affected area -- we will be sending in uniform city personnel to ensure that pedestrians are kept safe. >> city officials say it may take weeks before they can determine why the crane collapsed while he was being lowered during strong wind during friday morning. three people injured. one 38-year-old david wicks who work for a computerized trading firm was remember during his funeral as a kind and generous man whose life was one of giving. relatives say he and his wife were planning to start a family. >> i always ask myself -- what did i do, to deserve a man such as this? david never let me feel that i was in any way, inferior to him. he would remind me that he was the lucky one. >> again today, some people were saying it certainly could have been a lot worse had it not

star -- stairwell in 2014 when he heard a noise that startled him. he testified that his gun just went off. it struck akai gurley killing him. closing arguments are expected to begin tomorrow for peter liang. the search is on for the suspect in another attack. this time in queens. a 19-year-old woman was up for a jog yesterday morning when she was slashed on the leg. it happened on 25 avenue in jackson heights just after 11:00 a.m. she was taken to the hospital with a cut on her leg. police say the man was wearing a gray hoodie. the nuclear reglutory commission is sending a written -- regulation specialist to inspect the reactor complex after the release of radioactive water. congressman sean maloney wants the nuclear plant shutdown. he says unless the state fixes this, there will be more incidents. radioactive water showed up in three of the monitoring wells at indian point. the plant operator says there is no danger because of the contamination not reaching the

another batch of snow even tomorrow. some local spots could get up to 3 inches. minor flooding with us -- through tomorrow. because of the northeast wind. temperature, 34 in the hudson river valley. twenty-seven, white plains. the wind out of the north. right out of the northeast. really holding this water in here. this is the wind gusts. thirtys at jfk. more wind for the afternoon. the storm is way out here in the atlantic. it makes it feel really cold with temperatures in the 20s. the snow line -- hudson river east -- through faile fair -- fairfield, nassau and suffolk -- for quinn in queens, we have the snow. moving northeast. boston will get about a foot of snow. the next system -- will bring snow tomorrow. we will see this first batch winding down tonight. getting close to the snow totals.

a nightmare for a lot of passengers. and some of the seas which left new jersey hit hurricane force winds on the way to the bahamas. look at these pictures. the ship rocked causing damage to public areas. fortunately, no reports of any injuries. the ship being diverted to port canaveral, florida will arrive tomorrow morning. the royal caribbean -- the owner, says the damage did not put any passengers at risk. the daring rescue of a father and son trapped in a truck dangling over the edge of a bridge in israel was caught on camera. take a look at this video. according to the facebook post, high wind knocked over the big rig -- toppled onto its side and got stuck on the side of the bridge in galilee. a father and his teenage son were reportedly rescued. the father is said to have minor injuries. much more news ahead in the next half-hour. a cab driver attacked on the job. his face cut up, teeth knocked out -- now we're hearing from

flooding in parts of queens and along the jersey shore. meteorologist bill evans will have an update in a few minutes. and the new york knicks have fired head coach derek fisher. he was in the middle of his second season. after losing nine out of the last 10 games, jackson decided it was the next -- it was time to let him go. a stretch of street in tribeca is closed after the crane collapse. investigators are trying to figure out what went wrong. mayor bill de blasio calling for new rules with crane operations in the city. the man who died in the collapse, david wicks, was laid to rest yesterday. >> we begin with new details about a vicious attack on a cab driver in the bronx. the driver is recovering after his face was severely cut when he was attacked with a bottle on saturday. this afternoon, we are hearing from the victim's family.

with the details on this. sandra? >>reporter: we are at the intersection of east 102nd the second -- st. lawrence avenue. this is where the incident happened at 11:45 p.m. saturday night. the driver drove a half a block down. that is when he realized his back door was left open -- apparently deliberately. when he got out to shut the door, that is when he was attacked. he was hit in the face with what police believe was a champagne bottle. take a look at these photos of the driver in the hospital. he suffered 12 stitches -- right now he has 12 such as -- stitches on his lips. a fractured jaw. his family says he lost between 10 and 12 teeth. he is recovering this afternoon. they are by his side at new york presbyterian medical center. they described him as being traumatized. they say he says he is not going to go back and work as a driver

>> he is very scared right now. he is having a phobia. he keeps telling us, don't go out. close the doors. >> again, it looks like he is going to recover. he is going to need some work to do that. the first surgery is scheduled for tuesday. we're told by the family this. in custody. a 16-year-old identified by police as rondell he is just one of the suspects. another suspect is still out there. police are looking for him. they believe that man is the original assailant. live in the bronx, channel 7, eyewitness news. the teenager accused of throwing a vicious punch on a paterson police corner is expected to turn himself into police tomorrow.

for him to show up. they are actively searching for the suspect and was arrest him when they find him. the 16-year-old shot this video surrendered to police over the weekend. police called the attack terrible saying that the suspect faces charges including aggravated assault and confused -- conspiracy. the victim was treated at a hospital after the knockout punch. 2016. the nation's first primary is set for tomorrow in new hampshire. candidates are pushing hard to get voters to the polls tomorrow. and the gloves are coming off. we are in manchester with the details. >> tomorrow marks the 100th anniversary of the new hampshire primary. the precincts will be open at midnight. right now that candidates are kicking into overdrive to get the votes. >> the fight for new hampshire voters. it is a nonstop day of rallies to energize supporters. donald trump is looking for his first win. >> you have to go vote

the real games. thousands of volunteers will fan out tonight for new york city's annual one night count of homeless people. they canvas known as, the hope counts, is required by the federal government. more than 3500 volunteers are expected to participate. last year, the count found more than 3100 homeless on the street. city officials say they believe the number will be higher this year. >> a very difficult time for any of them because of this weather in particular. the snow is coming down right now here on long island. look at suffolk county. the roads are clear. but you can see the snow on the side of the roads. >> we want to turn to bill evans with an update on the accuweather forecast. >> a ton of snow on the east end. a lot out there. all the way to the hamptons. you can see we hardly have any at central park. temperature, 47 yesterday. everything warm. snow has been falling in rather wet.

forced himself on to her after she verbally protested several times. wolfgang ballinger pleaded not guilty. this was to first-degree attempted rape, first-degree criminal sexual act and first-degree criminal sexual abuse. >> the speed at which they took this place from the university and brought that into a criminal setting suggests that the prosecution believes they have a strong case. >> the university president also taking immediate action placing the fraternity, psi upsilon, on suspension, saying sexual violence has no place at cornell. the college junior now sits in jail after surrendering to police four days after the alleged attack last sunday. his lawyer is denying the accusation telling abc news that wolfgang ballinger is innocent and it will be established at the proper time in the proper place. >> wolfgang ballinger is scheduled to face a judge tomorrow. for now, the fraternity says it is cooperating with the ongoing investigation. channel 7, eyewitness news.

hearing from the young boy who fell through the ice on a pennsylvania pond. he is back home with his family after he and two friends were rescued from the icy pond. video shows first responders pulling the boys to safety yesterday afternoon. he says he was walking on the ice when he felt it start to crack beneath his feet. >> when it broke, i was the first one to fall in. instantly, as a reaction -- i grabbed onto the ice to get back on. then it broke. i thought, wow, i'm going to die. i felt like i was going to die. >> collin said he pulled himself out but jumped back in the water is -- to help his friend who could not swim. it took 30 minutes for firefighters to get them out. they were treated for mild hypothermia. >> no child should ever have the thought of not making it. >> gives you chills. we will try to lighten things up and talk about super

following breaking news on the cruise ship that sailed into a storm. it is now turning around and heading back to new jersey. earlier we told you that royal caribbean's anthem of the seas -- which left cape liberty, hit her case forced wind on the way to the bahamas. you can see from these pictures -- nobody was hurt. again, the ship now returning to new jersey because of the storm conditions. we will keep you posted. >> glad nobody was hurt. a day after the super bowl, everybody is talking about the game, right. the halftime show of course. and those super bowl ads.

fork around gardners island -- the wind pouring down here out of the north and out of the northeast. a lot of water here from the high tide. creating yet another round of flooding around 6:00 7:00 or 8:00 tonight. the line of the snow is edging eastward. in fairfield county. also out here toward suffolk county. writer plum island, gardners island -- this is the system for tomorrow. not a big snow maker. as it goes east, we will give snow tomorrow. this evening, a little batch will swing through tonight and overnight. then this system from the west of starts to take old tomorrow. and it will give us snow showers often on throughout the day and evening. maybe even wednesday morning. this first round -- the back edge went as far as western new jersey with flurries. one area east of the hudson river. and that out toward suffolk county and new haven county.
