>> we have this astronomical high-tide flooding. because we have a new moon on the high tide. and northeast wind pushing that water as well. that is going to continue until after 1:00 today. look across the park. we've got a little sunshine. we have a chilly temperature of 33 degrees right now. and we're going to be looking at that temperature, kind of hanging around that number for the afternoon. for this evening, until noon tomorrow, we have a winter weather advisory. that means 1 to 3, 3 to 4 inches of snow possible. we still have this coastal flood warning for middlesex. until 1:00. we'll be on the back side of the high tide, lead head -- headed toward low tide. there's flurries. but this band of snow, rain in atlantic city. cape may and around delaware bay. that's surging northward. that's what will come in this evening. and then there's this giant low here. that will send the snow into the area tonight. and for early part of tomorrow. that's what we'll be watching. temperatures around 34 this afternoon.

snow showers, coming up from the south, right across central, northern new jersey, up the hudson valley. 9:00 tonight, until midnight, 3:00 a.m. this will slippery up the roads overnight. a lot of roads do not get plowed or treated in the overnight hours. a lot of the roads, townships, burbs. they wait until it's over. but the snow showers will continue into the morning commute. but then we've got this slow coming out of the northwest. we expect there to be 1 to 2 inches of this new snow here. really from middlesex, northern ocean county, is kind of into middlesex, somerset county, northward here. and south of that, you get into ocean county, down to atlantic, there will be 2 to 4 coming. we'll talk more about that and bitter, bitter cold coming up this weekend. that and your accuweather seven- day forecast. shirleen, back to you. >> okay, bill. thank you. and take a look at some of

cars have been passing through this and getting in and out of the station as best as they can. but this is definitely quite a situation there. and we did hear that this is something that they always experience during high tides this kind of flooding. and a little further west in queens, some drivers made the dangerous decision to plow through flooded streets. eyewitness news reporter, mallory hoff is live in far rockaway with more. mallory? >> shirleen, good afternoon. this is a really rough spot. you couldn't physically comfortably stand where i'm standing. just a few hours ago, if you take a look here, you can see the water level has dropped dramatically in the last few hours. look how things looked when we arrived. >> it appears the driver of an abandoned suv stuck in the middle of a flooded road, tried to make it through the water, unsuccessfully. as drivers pushed through flooded streets in far rockaway, some opted to turn around. others tempted fate. >> you seem like you're going down in the quicksand or something.

>> this woman's van on naneoak avenue might never be the same. it was a challenge to be to it, eventually with a lot of work and a lot of frustration, she made it out. >> jesus, god, please work. >> reporter: flooding created problems for drivers on beach channel drive. and for those on foot, trying to make their way around the area, near chandler street. >> i feel a a little wet. i'm just going to have to go to school here. >> reporter: a morning stroll required detours. >> i can't go that way. we don't swim. >> this is my normal route. might have to go all the way around. >> one woman who had to rebuild her home on nameoak said she assistance would be appreciated. >> i took pictures and i'm going to send it to governor quomee -- governor cuomo and ask when he's going to fix that. >> and looks like crews are

we did see a tow truck come in the last few hours and hoist that suv out of that water. that car will spend a number of days ahead in the shop. so will a lot of other cars in this area. live in far rockaway, mallory huff, channel 7 eyewitness news. some streets were also completely unpassable. this shows a vehicle tried to make its way down atlantic avenue in freeport. as you can see, icy water comes up. and it has completely covered the sidewalks. left the spire streets looking more like a swamp than a residential neighborhood there. and more flooding in nassau county. check out what single in long beach. streets are flooding there. traffic seems to be moving okay at this time. and you can get the latest accuweather forecast weather alerts and see live radar any time with our free accuweather

just search in the apple appor google play stores. the teenager accused of a knockout punch that went viral, turned himself in to police moments ago. the video shows a teen punching an elderly man on the streets. that happened back in december. it was then posted online. the suspect will be charged as an adult. the teen who allegedly videotaped the attack has already turned himself in. the victim was treated at a hospital and released the. closing arguments are under way now in the manslaughter trial of a new york city police officer, accused of fatally shooting an unarmed man. an attorney for officer peter liang is urging jurors not to let their emotions cloud their judgment. you can see there is no doubt leang's bullet killed the girl back in 2014. but leang's attorney said he did not mean to kill anyone. and he radioed for help right away. we're learning more about the passengers injured in a bus crash in connecticut. four patients are in critical condition.

two commuter trains in germany slam into each other, head on, leaving nine people dead and two missing. 50 others are seriously hurt. this happened around 7:00 a.m. local time, outside of munich. train officials say that the accident happened at a curve and the train operators likely could not see each other until it was too late. investigators are examining why an emergency braking system on the train did not work. congress now considering president president obama's $1.8 billion request for emergency funding to help fight the zika virus. a portion of the funding will fund lab testing and rapid responses. the zika virus is tied to birth defects. the threat pushed the centers for disease control to move its response to its highest state of alert. we have video of a second man wanted for the brutal beating and robbery of a cab driver. police say the man in this surveillance video is one of two people accused of attacking a cab driver just before midnight on saturday.

sunday morning in the attack. he was arraigned and released on his own recognizance. the driver suffered a fractured jaw and needed stitches. new york city police are looking for a group of fur thieves. four people are wanted for a series of jobs. their m.o. is to have one of them distract the clerk, as the other sneaks away, with the stolen item. the thefts include a mink cape, fur blankets and several fur coats. the loot, totaling thousands of dollars. well, from reality tv star to life behind bars, in an exclusive interview, real housewives new jersey star, teresa judice opens up about his life in prison, and what it's like to be back home with her family. and caught on camera. an unusual end to police pursuit. a suspect caught. we'll explain.

and it seems like all of their flooding issues came up. we knew what we were going to find because it is so typical here. was fine. it's when you get to this low- lying area over here, like center street and all of the streets that are parallel to it, that they are still covered in water now. the water is subsiding. i mean, where i'm standing right now, about a half hour ago, it was covered with water. so we couldn't actually stand here. the people along these streets are so incredibly used to this. boost. you're going to see a lady walking by in a couple of minutes because they are prepared for this. they've already moved their cars to higher ground. they do that when they know -- front end, i want to show you this woman down here. she probably lives down this street. she's going home. and she's already got her high hipsters on right now. they are so used to this. and all they have to do is wait for these high tides to go down.

afternoon of where we see, you know, breaks of sun. but chilly. humidity kind of in the moderate zone at 66. northeast winds at 7. look at the pressure, though, 29.6. that is low. leads you to be pretty windy. but unstable atmosphere. we have a low pressure system heading our way. normal high would be 40. we're not going to get to that today. we are going to get to a few flakes and see a steadier snow tonight. 1 to 2 inches of snow, more to our south and west. actually, long island could get into some of that heavier amount, too. some 2:34 possible. and we got near record cold coming this weekend. right after freezing. 27 around monticello 30 around the jersey shore north. high tide. problem particularly for the jersey shore. you know, maybe not so much for like queens and long island, as opposed to yesterday, where there was a more direct feel.

and the real feel being in the 20s for the afternoon. snow showers and rain showers to our south will be coming northward. they'll be coming into this cold air. so it will be all snow as it moves northward. this will be this evening and tonight as the wave of low pressure comes through. we will show you on the future cast. here comes that snow. 7:00, 8:00, midnight, 2:00, 3:00 a.m. looking at temperatures at about 34 and below. tomorrow, we'll get into the upper 30s. but we'll have this northwest flow. we're still looking at possibly 1 to 2 inches of snow. some spots here. and some places in across long island might get into na, too. as -- that, too. as this one low slides through the east area. canada. then as we go, drop temperatures to 20 below. the coldest of the season. 20 to 30 degrees below normal by the time we get into saturday and into sunday. cloudy, chilly.

tonight is when we get the snow accumulating. some local spots might hit 3 around the boroughs. a little off to the south. and cloudy, a few flurries tomorrow. and we'll have snow off to the east to start the day and into the afternoon. then we'll be looking at that cold air pouring in here thursday night. thursday night, it drops down to 18. and then we're going to be looking at record cold possibly this weekend. you know, jeff smith working hard up there in the weather center. we drop the temperatures saturday night from 3 -- 7:00 -- from from 7 to 3. i said we all really like 7s. except bill. he's going with 3. >> he went with reality? >> yes. he's a smart guy. >> we haven't seen numbers like that if a while. >> no. it will really be cold. the thing to do, my advice, is to check your furnace and heater and all of that. talking about stress on it, too. going to start thursday in the next day or week. a buffalo bill football

the roof of a gas station collapses. a bystander helps police and a couple of bears make a surprise appearance.

were caught on camera and caught our attention. and it was quite a scare. and ooh, quite a ride for maintenance workers on this roof, when it collapsed. the two men were on the roof of a gas station awning, cleaning it, when they noticed cracks. while they were checking it out, that is when the entire roof came crashing down, with them on it. one worker received minor injuries and was treated at the scene and released. the other worker rode the roof down to the ground. but amazingly, walked away unscathed. also caught on come ra, the suspect in a -- camera, the suspect in a crime in england was making his getaway. watch as the man runs away from an officer in kingston. he has a pretty good lead, when a civilian walking with a woman stops and sticks out her legs. you see that? i love it. the suspect trips over and falls flat on his face. and that is when police promptly arrest him. worth looking at again, right?

these bears at the helsinki zoo woke up from hibernation, a month ahead of schedule. the 15-year-old mother and her 10-year-old daughter, ran around their habitat, played and went digging in the snow. the zoo is not sure about why they came out of hibernation early. but they suspect the reason is, bill, that the temperatures are milder. than usual. so the bears are coming out of hibernation early. how about that? >> they are warmer than normal there. but we also found out that leonardo dicaprio was visiting the zoo. >> they're like play time. remember the movie? >> i don't want to remember that. >> i don't blame you. all right. thanks a lot. we've got another story to tell you about. a prank landed a man in trouble with police. no one was laughing at the center of this. the parents of josh james say he was just trying to play a joke with an employee.

our top stories this afternoon. more snow is headed our way. but root now, we are dealing with flooding. some streets from the jersey shore to long island are covered in water. meteorologist bill evans will have another update on the accuweather in just a few minutes. and a thief caught on camera, punching a person on patterson street, turned himself in to police about 40 minutes ago. christine gonzalez is being charged as a juvenile. but the charges could be upgraded. the video was recorded in december and posted online. the victim treated at a hospital and released. the new hampshire primary is around way. candidates are still trying to

polls show republican donald trump, and democrat bernie sanders in the lead. political reporter dave evans is in new he'll have a live update, beginning on eyewitness news at 4:00. we begin this half hour with a disturbing story. the search for the person who threw a dog out of a moving car. >> it happened in nassau county. and the puppy is okay. but now a reward success offered in the case. sandra bookman is live in massapequa with the story. >> reporter: that's right, shirleen, a $5,000 reward is now being offered by the nassau county aspca. now, this is bandit. that is the temporary nickname given to this 5-month-old puppy, who was tossed out of a moving vehicle. it happened saturday night, along a residential street, about 7:45 in union dale here on long island. a neighbor saw that toss and

now, we are told that bandit suffered no real injuries from being thrown from that vehicle. but animal rescue officials say that the puppy does show some signs of having been abused. >> we're fed up. as all animal people are. with these total callousness and disregard for life that people show. and the only chance we have of stopping this, that's why our organization is offering a $5,000 reward. >> reporter: now, the only description authorities are telling us they have of the vehicle, a dark, two-door sedan, with tinted glass windows. again, this happened 7:45 saturday evening, along a residential street in union dale. now, the aspca is hoping that the reward and seeing bandits

reporting live this afternoon, in massapequa, i'm sandra bookman, channel 7 eyewitness news. also on long island, police are investigating a possible road rage case involving a gun. police say a 27-year-old man was driving on the roadway. the man claims a honda civic pulled up in front of him, and slam on the brakes. when the driver tried to pass the car, he said the passenger inside of it pulled a gun. no one was injured. the search is on for the man who raped a woman in a bronx stairwell. take a look at this surveillance video here. police say that man followed a woman into an elevator inside a building in university heights last friday. that is where he attacked her, robbing her and taking her into a stairwell, where he is accused of sexually assaulting her. the victim is being treated at the hospital. a new detail on the royal caribbean cruise ship caught in the path of hurricane force winds at the time. federal officials may look into

and a u.s. senator is calling for an ntsb investigation. the passengers on this ship were forced to stay in the ruins for hours after getting caught in those winds. and abc's lindsey davis has more on the story. >> reporter: take a look at this new video. rough seas, ultimately, causing the royal carinnian -- caribbean cruise ships to turn around. it is on its way back to new jersey. after hurricane force winds prevented it from making its way to its final destination. >> the ship was clearly rocking back and forth, and tipping side to side. and cabinets were slamming open. >> reporter: passengers used cell phones to capture scenes that looked like they were right out of the titanic. flying furniture and shattering glass, as massive waves pounded the anthem of the seas as it moved into a rough storm off the carolina coast. not leaving new jersey over the weekend.

stay in their rooms for hours. the amount that things were shifting around our room was a little frightening. >> reporter: four passengers suffered minor injuries. now, some on board blame the captain. >> i'm really concerned about the captain's judgment in this situation. i really resent the fact that he put 6,000 people's lives at risk, taking us into a storm that was predicted. >> royal caribbean apologized in a statement monday, adding while the weather was unpleasanter, the ship remained seaworthy at all times. we thank the ship and crew for guiding the ship safely back to better weather. >> they are offering a full refund and a future discount. meanwhile, one senator is calling for an ntsb investigation. as to why they left in the first place when they knew there was a storm in the forecast for days. in new blasio, and hundreds of fans fanned out across the city last night to count the number of homeless people living on the streets.

talking with a homeless person on west throbst street -- 31st street in midtown. he was joined by julian castro. castro said cuba is considering a spending plan that would help get them off the streets. new york city would get some of that money. >> these are people who not long ago had a home, had a more normal situation. and something went wrong. >> we need to understand that people need support and resources. this is not a situation where out of sight, out of mind. >> last year, more than 3100 homeless people other than found living on the streets. this year's numbers are expected to be much higher. we want to turn now to meteorologist bill evans am he is tracking the snow that is on the way. >> let's take a look after school. looking at what is going to be a 34-degree temperature. and there's going to be some flurries that will pop up this afternoon, after school as well, kiddos. want to be very careful. because things might be a

a driver on long island faces dwi charges in a crash that left him and two other men badly hurt. the driver lost control of his pickup truck on sunrise highway and slammed into a pole overnight. the driver and two passengers were thrown from the car. one of the men was hit by a passing car. investigators say they received a call about an erratic driver shortly before the crash. >> buffalo bill's running back, with sean mccoy, under investigation, followed a fight that left two philadelphia police officers injured. now, the brawl over a bottle of champagne erupted early sunday morning at the recess nightclub. off duty officers, tangle with a group that included mccoy. and police say four out of that group turned on one of the officers, severely beating him the officer was treated for a possible skull fracture, while the second officer suffered broken ribs.

guard broke up the fight. so far, no charges have been filed in the case. as police continue to investigate. a murder suspect who walked free from a los angeles jail because of a paperwork error has been captured in nevada. steven wright was picked up by the fbi in a boulder city hotel. police say they had a lot of tips, thanks to a $20,000 reward. prosecutors say there won't be any additional charges because wright didn't really escape. he went free because of a mistake in a court system. the fbi is dealing with a major data breach. hackers published contact information about 20,000 fbi employees yesterday. just one day earlier, personal information about 10,000 department of homeland security workers was also posted. a group tweeting in the account, act.gov said the information was pulled from the department of justice database. officials say that information, including social security

new at noon, actor hugh jackman, revealing that he once again has had another cancer scare. the star posted a photo on facebook, with a star over -- scar over his nose, saying it is what happens when you don't use sun screen. he has the mildest form of the skin cancer. he's been treated for skin cancer three times in the past. and just about every time, he's made a point to post a picture on instagram to raise awareness of the dangers of it. but he seems to be fine. >> definitely cautionary for sure. teresa judais opening up after months in prison. >> it was hell. definitely like living in hell. >> the real housewives of new jersey detailing her life bee hind bar -- behind bars and what it's like to be home.

and back to the west, you see there is more. that's going to kind of come through, work its way through this evening. lee goldberg is going to have more on this coming up. but you see, 9:00 tonight. midnight, another little band comes through tomorrow morning. morning commute. just enough to be a nuisance and slipperyun the road. here we have sunshine coming. 1 to 2 inches of snow. pretty common here. and maybe south of i-84, to fairville county. and to long island, there might be spots that get higher. the path of this low down to the south. and then, as we get to friday, and saturday, we see this arctic blast coming in with -- dropping the temperatures, 20 degrees below normal. the coldest air of the season is going to be this weekend. saturday and sunday, with single digit overnight lows. over-the-afternoon, temperatures are going to hunt around 34, 35. but look at saturday, sunday. booia. a pair of 22s. it's going to be cold. mostly cloudy.

tonight, here comes the snow. accumulating 1 two 2 inches. and also flurries with a temperature around 40. seven-day forecast -- i mean, you'll see that there's some flurries on thursday. but it's thursday night, it drops to 18 for the low. and we really see this cold air coming this weekend. you see it's 19 for the high on sunday. that's 21 degrees colder than normal. i'm just going to hide under the bed.
