minutes after police say he went on a stabbing rampage. this 25-year-old is so shaken, she's scared to show her face. >> i just so happened to see him when he was leaving here. i was on my way to work and i seen him, he was acting regular. and i didn't know what happened so i gave him a head nod. he kind of head nodded back or whatever then he got off the bus. >> reporter: police say sykes called his mother to tell her he stabbed his 4-month-old daughter, rebecca cutler, and her other two daughters. only the 2-year-old survived. >> approximately 10 a.m., 911 received a call about the stabbing at the ramada inn. responding officers from the 121 precinct arrived shortly after 10 a.m. they discovered four victims, a 28-year-old woman and her three young children. all four had suffered stab wounds. >> reporter: that 911 call

found the bodies in the first floor room in the hotel on gannon street. this is where the woman and her children lived for the past three months. >> sometimes i'd come out in the front and they'd be sitting in the lobby. they'd be talking. that's really it. >> reporter: police say there's no history of domestic violence but they say the couple did argue out in public on tuesday when they say sykes accused cutler of having an affair. >> we want to get him. we want to get him very, very quickly and get him off the streets as fast as we can. >> take another look. this is a picture of 23-year-old michael sykes. police say he lives in howard houses in brooklyn, in the 73rd precinct. if you spot him, don't approach him but call crimestoppers. darla miles, channel 7 eyewitness news. now to vote 2016. chris christie, the new jersey

darling of the republican party, suspending his campaign after a dismal performance in the new hampshire republican primarily. governor christie with two years left of his last term and his popularity in his home state at an all time low. support from just one out of three residents. >> we're about a mile away from governor christie's house here in mendham. this is as close as the state police would let us be. it was about two hours ago, 4:00, when governor christie in a face-to-face meeting informed them that his presidential bid had come to an end. he then went to social media and informed everyone else. >> reporter: a big thank you from governor christie via a facebook post minutes ago. i leave the race without an ounce of regret. i'm so proud of the campaign we ran, the people that ran it with me and all those who gave us their support and confidence along the way.

things we need here in this state. i think a lot of us are not happy with his performance. >> reporter: after a late afternoon meeting with staffers, the gop presidential hopeful suspended his bid for the white house. despite spending more than 70 days campaigning in the granite state, christie came in sixth place after all the votes were counted in new hampshire. that was enough for the chair of the new jersey state democratic committee to issue a statement saying new jersey appreciates iowa and new hampshire voters rejecting chris christie's policy failures, scandals, and misleading rhetoric. he has no business being promoted to the presidency after what he's done to new jersey. >> i think too many candidates from the republican party. i think they're dividing among themselves. they're actually doing themselves a major disservice by dividing the votes among themselves. >> reporter: florida senator marco rubio who endured a withering attack from christie during last week's debate today said he likes the new jersey governor and holds nothing against him. >> he was trying to win and he

delays causing traffic for emergency repairs. >> westbound side approaching paramus road, you've got these emergency lights flashing and cones up all over the roadway taking out two lanes. you've got only the left two lanes getting through. it's rush hour. this is a bumper to bumper delay that goes back for miles and miles. it goes, in fact, all the way back through teaneck to grand avenue. so you hit this almost as soon as you get off the george washington bridge. reporting live over paramus, shannon sohn, channel 7 eyewitness news. the nypd tonight investigating a stabbing in brooklyn as a possible hate crime. they want to know if a 25-year-old man was attacked because he's jewish. eyewitness news reporter kemberly richardson is in crown heights where she spoke exclusively to a woman who saw the victim after that stabbing. >> that young lady said she was in shock. she had no idea what happened. this 25-year-old victim, she

covered with blood and she could clearly see a slash mark in the back of his coat. right now police are out here in this neighborhood. they're looking for more surveillance video. they admit that the video that they have so far isn't that great, but take a look. this is a screen grab from that surveillance video. it's the suspect. he was last seen wearing a black sweatshirt. he was last spotted running south on albany street. this random stabbing happened in front of 646 empire boulevard at about 11:45 this morning. the 25-year-old victim does not know his attacker and didn't say a word to him. still police say the suspect stabbed the man in his back. the victim, who was dressed in traditional hasidic garb, was able to stumble quite a ways in to a check cashing place. just a short time ago i spoke by phone with the employee who helped the victim. she doesn't want to give her name, is only talking to eyewitness news.

in with a bloody shirt and in with a bloody shirt and another guy was accompanying him and i didn't know right away that he was stabbed. he said call the ambulance or whatever. someone called the ambulance. and all of the sudden, the guy was walking and talk and everything but there was just like a lot of cops came to the store and ambulance and they were helping him. >> what do you think about this? what did you think when he came in? >> after i found out he was stabbed, i started hysterically crying because it's crazy that he's just walking down the street minding his own business when he's stabbed in the back in broad daylight. >> the police say the victim and suspect didn't talk to each other and the victim doesn't know the suspect. police at this point are looking at this as a possible hate crime. the victim was taken to the hospital where doctors are treating him for a collapsed lung. now we're live in crown heights,

that cruise ship caught in the middle of the storm in atlantic ocean is just a few minutes away from returning to the port in new jersey. it's on its way to bayonne's cape liberty. waves as high as 30 feet smacked the vessel filled with thousands of people when it sailed in to a winter storm on its way to the bahamas. a team of coast guard inspectors will determine the extent of the damage once the ship docks tonight. new york police tonight trying to find the van and the driver involved in a deadly hit-and-run in queens. investigators believe the van hit a 16-year-old girl in the rosedale section. the young girl walking in the crosswalk after midnight when the van hit her and drove off. parts of nassau county trying to mop up after getting swamped by flooding. a bad combination of the moon cycle, the tide, and a series of

but also snow showers upstate. not only lake snows but associated with first of two shots of arctic air coming in. this is the first one that will be here by late tonight and this turns 20s in to teens then the one to the north near hudson bay is unleashing a piece of the north pole. that's fierce cold that comes in friday night in to saturday. numbers tomorrow morning, we'll start the day very chilly in the 20s. wind chills 10 to 15. couple snow showers around. maybe an isolated dusting. during the day tomorrow, blustery. only about 29 feeling like teens. brisk and cold. snow shower around tonight. isolated dusting down to 24. 29 tomorrow. clouds and sunshine. blustery with some flurries and again it feels like we're in the teens and tomorrow night down to 16. wind chills about 5 to 10 as skies begin to clear. we look at 29 on friday. back down to 18. we may rise a couple degrees on saturday morning. then there's a front that comes through with a snow squall. that could mean a dusting or inch or two in spots. wind chills during the midday and afternoon on saturday with falling temperatures in the

we'll feel like 10 to 20 below, even 25 or 30 below north and west. on sunday the morning low will be 2. so that could be a record low and i think that could be the first time we get to zero in new york city. we have a shot since 1994. the high on valentine's day, 19. try to get back to 32 on monday. it will be a struggle and a storm is approaching so probably get some snow or ice on monday night in to tuesday but there's enough warming on tuesday that it goes over to mix or rain. so it will climb from 19 on valentine's day to 44 tuesday. ups and downs. it also has a lot of staying power around. >> he was just kidding, honey. my wife wants to talk to you. she's very angry. >> there's no one on the line.
