90-year-old man in east orange. why she allegedly strangled henry boyd in his apartment, police won't say. but they did tell us that the two knew each other. our new jersey reporter toni yates is live in orange with more for us. >> he leaves behind a wife, children, and great grandchildren. henry boyd was 90 years old. he retired from the navy decades ago then he worked as a doorman before he retired from that job. the prosecutor's office has arrested 32-year-old jocelyn data of orange. a family member found mr. boyd's body inside his apartment on february 9th. he lived in this building on south harrison street.

saying only that mr. henry boyd and ms. datta knew each other. she's now in custody. investigators say mr. boyd was strangled. we did reach out to the boyd family today for a comment. they did not return our calls. ms. datta is due in court february 3rd. eight firefighters were hurt while battling a fire inside an apartment building in yonkers. crews were called to the complex as flames grew inside one unit. firefighters were able to safely remove several families from the building. one person in addition to the firefighters suffered minor injuries. the two democrats running for president, right now they're neck and neck in new polls out. a quinnipiac poll gives clinton 44%, sanders 42%.

notified the control tower immediately after it spotted the laser friday. no one was hurt and the plane landed safely. president obama and the first lady will visit the supreme court on friday to pay their respects to justice antonin scalia as he lies in repose. they will not attend his funeral. the white house says vice president joe biden and his wife jill will be at the funeral on saturday but there's no word on why the president won't be there. scalia died on saturday. he was 79 years old. he gained fame as half of the so-called god squad. monsignor thomas hartman has passed away. hartman teamed up with gelman in their god squad appearances on print, on radio, and on tv including wabc. in 2003 he announced he had parkinson's disease. he died last night from complications related to the disease. thomas hartman was 69 years old. the u.s. is speaking out about new accusations that china is launching missile systems.

laura behnke is with the mets in tampa. their live reports begin tomorrow. i think it's a wee bit warmer down there, don't you think? >> yes. >> i hope they brought their sunscreen. >> it's incredible that spring, we're actually talking about spring. it's coming. >> it is coming. i will say the most favorable time for snowstorms, bigger snowstorms is coming, late february, early march. it's not over yet but we're getting closer. let's start looking in to lower manhattan. i didn't mean to steal your hope, sade. we have clouds overhead and we're looking at temperatures that are in the upper 30s which seems pretty reasonable. the winds are making it feel even colder. feels pretty freezing when you step outdoors. got our wind chills quite close to the 32-degree mark. colder in some cases. the 24-hour temperature change, we take these upper 30s we've got across the map and we're about 15 to 20 degrees colder than we were at the same time yesterday.

coats or your jacket open or no scarf, change that back around for that least the next 48 hours and we'll get warm air in here for you. wind chills feeling like 20 in monticello. 27 for white plains. feels like 30 in islip. montauk feels like 33. chill is definitely with us. overnight what you can expect is an isolated snow shower. i think they'll wrap up around 10:00 or 11:00. they're not very widespread. temperatures go subfreezing tonight. teens in some of the suburbs. ahead, near 60 degrees. that's over the weekend. got some real warm air but you have to get through thursday and friday first where temperatures will be below 40 both days. right now saturday and radar combined, seasonal snow showers coming north of scranton that we'll keep our eye on. as those get closer i think it produces a little bit of light snow shower activity. not even an accumulation from this. just a quick moving shower that scoots through and that's about it. we can see those off and on till

drop off to the freezing point here in the city. then we wait. simply wait for the temperatures to come up. thursday there's more sunshine in the afternoon. but friday we see the winds settle down and a few clouds roll in for the afternoon hours so i think thursday maybe looks better but you put up with the winds. then you've got clouds on friday but at least no wind. a little bit of a trade off there. teens in the suburbs. 27 for the city. we'll go up to 37 tomorrow afternoon. it will feel chilly at times. be wear of that. here's the accuweather 7-day forecast. a couple things stick out here. breezy and mild over the weekend for saturday. we lose the wind on sunday. temperatures in the low 50s. we hold on to the stretch of really nice weather over the weekend. all in all this nice mild pattern that takes our temperatures in the upper 50s are going to continue. we're going to continue with that feel until early in the week. then we'll be tracking a coastal storm. monday still looks decent but

that we actually see the chance for things to really get a little more interesting around here. it is a sunny start to the week but by tuesday you'll want all the tracking gear in place because that will be the place for change. the coastal storm has to tap in to much colder air for the north in order for this to turn in to storm. we'll call it a winter storm threat. we may get a winter snow mix. that will do it for now. i'll have another update on what potentially is going to be the difference between friday and saturday just temperatures coming up in a few minutes. big scare in boston today when the smoke filled a train station leading to the evacuation of two planes. officials say a metal panel fell off a train entering the state street station. this was on the orange line. the metal panel hit a wall and the electrified third rail. passengers heard a loud boom. they saw smoke.

windows of the train and literally crawled out. fortunately no one was hurt. south dakota is on track to become the first state to regulate which bathrooms transgenders can use at school. a bill was passed that require kids to use bathrooms and locker rooms that correspond to their genders at birth. schools could also provide a reasonable accommodation that would include a single occupancy bathroom or limited use of a staff restroom. whole foods shoppers need to check their pantries for a specialty cheese being recalled. pecarino cheese may be contaminated with listeria. in new york city the cheese was only sold at the whole foods location in the bowery, the label code is on the screen and the cheese has sell-by dates between march 3rd and 8th. potholes. you know about those. they're costing drivers billions of dollars.

clark with the relentless assault. his attorney today convinced a brooklyn judge to release the teenager who doctors diagnosed with schizophrenia and autism. >> he was dealing with very significant mental health issues and a lack of services. >> reporter: services the mother has spent years trying to obtain for her son. in particular access a ride. she acknowledged the teenager has difficulty in crowded places. the 62-year-old bus driver told eyewitness news the bus was in fact standing room only. it was mrs. clark on the bus with her son who helped stopped the attack. >> you're talking about a system that's set up that's not meeting the needs of the people so hopefully we can make that happen particularly after this incident. >> we have another bus driver attack to tell you about tonight. this one happened in the bronx right around this time roughly around 6:00. newscopter7 over the scene where it took place.

police tell us a 69-year-old bus driver suffered a swollen right cheek and blurry red eye after a teenage suspect got on the bus, punched the driver, and fled. back here in brooklyn, as for 18-year-old clark, he returns to court april 21st. joe torres, channel 7 eyewitness news. police in new jersey arrest a man in connection with a hit-and-run back in november that's now turned deadly. stanley miss was struck while walking on a bridge in jersey city. this happened on november 1st. this morning he died from his injuries. police arrested 19-year-old wally at his home. police say he took off at the scene. he's now charged with leaving the scene of an accident that resulted in death. new york's governor is gaining support for a 12-week family leave proposal. governor cuomo announced today in harlem with more than a dozen agencies and organizations

dr. love was arrested in west palm beach after investigators say he gave a physical exam to a female undercover officer. according to deputies, he fooled victims with an elaborate website and glowing bio. >> hurt because of the accusations and allegations but like i said, this is not the first time where i've been accused and i will pursue this. >> the arrest comes just a year after the 18-year-old was detained at the hospital. a gynecologist found him in an exam room with a hospital lab coat and stethoscope. federal appeals court is hearing new jersey's push to legalize sports betting at its casinos and racetracks. proponents believe it will boost revenue for the state but four major pro sports leagues claim expanding it will lead to more cases of game fixing. the appeals court has twice before ruled it will have federal law but agreed to hear it again.

new at 5:00, a 50-year-old murder investigation in new jersey finally solved tonight. a suspected serial killer now linked to the cold case. prosecutors say recently re-examineed dna evidence found robert zalinski was the killer. he was awaiting trial for allegedly killing a 13-year-old girl. a decorated war hero is tonight. chris marquez says a group of teenagers surrounded him at a mcdonald's in washington, d.c. on friday. he says they asked him if he

new at 5:00, preparing for trouble on the ice. they showed how a helicopter can carefully drop an emergency diver right in the middle of a frozen pond or lake. they also demonstrated proper techniques for throwing life rings. police say the practice is vital. >> typical especially this time of year when you have warmer temperatures. there's an illusion that that's solid ice. clearly it's not solid ice. anybody that ventured out on to that ice or went out to make a rescue would fall right through it endangering themselves. >> the nypd says pulling someone from the ice quickly is important because of how fast hypothermia can set in. >> can set in very, very quickly. >> it's just a cold temperature

if you're in that water too long then it's going to take your core body temperature down and your health is at risk. around here we've got a little cold. 15 to 20 degrees colder than it was yesterday at the same time. 37 on the thermometer. forecast for tonight's low, 27. next seven hours, that's when the numbers will go down. premorning hours, predawn hours that will be the coldest. as the sun comes up there's a bit of a breeze. there's actually a wind chill factor. if we're falling in to the mid 20s tonight overnight we could nearly double that temperature over the weekend. that's 50s to near 60 degrees. that will be a big change for us. a freezing chill does take over for the next two days. we're tracking a storm for early next week. that would be tuesday in to

we'll be watching that for you. even as we get the warm temperatures over weekend we're talking the potential for snow. 24-hour temperature change, already 15 to 20 degrees. we may see this number go down just a little bit more because it's going to be so chilly tonight. if you got used to an open coat or not zipping up or not taking your scarf, you may want to revamp. we'll be seeing wind chills very similar to this. falling in to the teens by 6:00 or 7:00 a.m. for the wind chills. the cold is back at least for thursday and friday and then we bump those temperatures back up for the weekend. on the radar and satellite picture we're socked in with clouds. overcast. winds are coming in. breezy. not real windy out there but you feel the breeze and that's what brings us a bit of a chill. as far as the snow showers coming off the lake effect showers coming through, central pennsylvania and even parts of upstate new york, few of those are living all the way to scranton. i think they can get in to the northern count.

snow but that's about it. most dying out before they get in to our area. here's the wind chills for early tomorrow morning. 8 a.m. we're seeing mid teens to upper teens for the chill then even through the afternoon we still got a bits of a breeze which is going to keep those feels-like temperatures down. by friday it looks like we improve just a little bit. late afternoon on friday. we're back to almost matching the thermometer. we wait for the temperatures to really start to climb on saturday afternoon. teens in the suburbs. 20s in the cities tonight. mostly sunny tomorrow. sunrise at 6:48. friday we'll go with 38. less wind on friday. i think it feels a lot better. we'll see the clouds racing in in the afternoon. saturday and sunday, temperatures in the 50s. saturday is the day it's almost 60 on the thermometer but we still do have wind around. sunday, less wind. temperatures are in the low 50s. we'll hold on to that for monday. then tuesday, this is the day you'll hear the next snow possible for. and that is this potential storm coming up the coast.

[ laughter ] we'll see how it ends up for you. everybody has their day. it's been 10 months but the carnegie deli is back open for business. >> the grand reopening of the iconic new york eatery happened today and the mayor even stopping by. lauren glassberg is there now. >> the carnegie deli closed after an investigation by con edison in to the gas lines here at the building. the owners of the restaurant do own the building. they're hoping to put all of that behind them and just start anew. >> this is an icon. there are some things that actually deserve the phrase icon. and this is one of them.

blasio among those eager to dig in to a pastrami sandwich at carnegie deli today. the deli hoped in 1937 and became famous for its humongous sandwiches, cheese cakes, and celebrity customers. in april it was shut down after con edison found the deli was tapping in to gas it wasn't paying for. the owners reimbursed con ed $40,000 and repairs got underway. >> being closed was especially hard for me. sorry. i'll take a few deep breaths. because it was member of the family. >> reporter: that member was back today. along with actor dominic kianese and food critic. >> back in the days when i was writing for the new york times, i did a test of pastrami and delis.

frightened to get out of his truck. his boss called for help when the wild turkeys surrounded the mailman. >> we're hearing the 911 call and complaints from neighbors. kemberly richardson went in search of those bad birds and she found them. she has the story from hillsdale. >> some people hear roosters around here. we wake up in the morning, it's like gobble gobble gobble. >> reporter: it seems wild turkeys rule in this picturesque cul-de-sac. >> if you show up, they leave? >> no. they don't run. >> reporter: which is why we were here in the 1st place. >> i think that's ridiculous. >> reporter: helen is talking about what happened after wild turkeys, yes, we found them, surrounded a letter carrier's truck on tuesday. he was so upset, couldn't get out, and called his boss for help. the post master dialed 911. this is the actual call. >> you're not going to believe this but i got a carrier that's being attacked by wild turkeys. won't let him deliver the mail.
