the friendly bus boy and waiter who goes out of his way to help customers. janet is one of the regulars here. >> bobby is an icon in this neighborhood. he helps all of the old people. if it's bad weather, he goes to pick them up to take them here. >> reporter: so you can imagine the reaction when word spread that bobby had been seriously attacked. >> i'm sick about what happened to him. >> reporter: the attack happened when the 25-year-old tried escorting a teenager out of the restaurant that was asking customers for money to support his basketball team. initially, the teen left with no hassle, but five minutes later, he returned, confronted bobby, then slashed him across the face near the restaurant's front door and ran away. bobby was rushed to the hospital where he received 120 stitches to close the his face. >> he's a very good kid. we wish him the best of luck.

some of the stories that were caught on camera and caught our attention. a would-be robber got an unwanted trip to jail for valentine's day after he tried to rob a pharmacy. take a close look at the man on the left. that is david west who went to the wall green's to florida to take his girlfriend for lunch. seconds later, anthony walked in, jumped on the counter&demanded pain medicine. what he didn't know is west holds two state boxing titles. he immediately intervened. four punches from west and he was down for the count and off to jail. a family-owned pizza joint in houston surveillance video will catch ruthless robbers who order food and jump the counter and attack back. the victims fight back throwing chairs at the crooks trying to keep the robbers there until cops arrived. the suspects got away, but the business hopes someone will recognize them in the video.

billion according to a new report. kristin? >> reporter: dave and shirleen, if you live in the town of hempstead or drive through it you are certainly in luck. the town supervisor says they are going to be tackling the pothole problem head on. supervisor anthony santino says they plan to use more personnel to deal with potholes and respond to complaints from residents. he says typically they use staff from one department but this year, they will have a special unit dedicated just to responding to potholes. he says they also will be deploying more pothole teams and also they had increased their number of hot boxes in the town. this time, they have received 288 possibility hole reports so far. >> this program that we're implementing today gives us the opportunity to be proactive n. in hempstead town. obviously it's to provide the

massive new tower could soon be built in brooklyn. the "new york times" reporting two developers have submitted plans for a new sky scraper in downtown brooklyn. the building would be 73 stories tall, the highest in the borough. it would be almost twice as tall as anything near it on dekalb avenue. it calls for the building to house stores and nearly 500 rental apartments. making an aggressive move and the team has barred fans from using print at home tickets. it is a blow for those who buy from stub hub as they get them via pdf file. the mobile version scan and old school tickets work. pitchers and catchers report for spring training today. an e-mail attachment may leave hurt feelings at an elementary.

looking at, you know, a pretty afternoon, but it's pretty cold, too. we're looking at winds out the door west at 21 miles per hour. the barometer has been rising. look how strong or how high the pressure is. that's evidence of strong arctic high pressure. the pressure is with the humidity that is dry. today we're going to be below normal began today and tomorrow before we go way above normal for the weekend. this northwest wind will keep a chill in here. we'll still be making it feel like the 20s here. we have nice sunshine around here to the great lakes. that'll bring some warm air up in here.

futurecast because you will see that tomorrow morning it's going to be cold. 9 around monticello. teens here north and west. watch how the temperature gets into the mid-30s, upper 30s and even near 40. even this warm air coming across the mountains could lift up and create a snow shower here in this cold air. overnight, it warms up into the upper 30s to the low 40s tomorrow or saturday morning, and then we're looking at 50s by saturday afternoon. sunny and chilly this afternoon. 14 in the suburbs. a nice start in gets to near 40. the temperature warms up overnight with a little sprinkle or snow shower with the warm air surging up. then you soo he on saturday it's really nice -- you see on saturday it's really nice. we're even mild into monday. then, of course, you know it's february, and we're going to have changes next week. we'll be watching the coastal system developing.
