. this is new york's number one news, channel 7 eyewitness news with joe torres and sandy -- sandra bookman, laura behnke with the forecast. and jeff smith with the exclusive accuweather forecast. six. plane crash rescue, three people pulled to safety after a small plane makes an emergency landing off long island's north shore. a fourth person is still missing. and a community's out raged.

york's finest shot during a chaotic chase and gun battle. i'm joe torres. >> and i'm sandra bookman. we begin with the plane crash. the plane took off from pittsburgh, massachusetts, last night. it was headed to republic airport in farmingdale. a student pilot was at the controls when the plane started having engine trouble. he gave the controls to the flight instructor who made that emergency landing in the setauket harbor. >> rescuers saved three of the four passengers. here's eyewitness news reporter lucy yang. >> reporter: it was a valiant effort in the middle of the night in pitch blackness with victims in setauket harbor. >> you could hear the victims calling for help. so you know, you had to get out there. and took what we had. >> reporter: 11:00 saturday night, a piper 4 cedar plane from massachusetts made an emergency landing in the waters off setauket island. we're told there were four men on board.

scene but their only guide above. >> as the helicopter continued to search, you would be talking to somebody 20 feet next to you, and all of a sudden the light moved and you couldn't see them. >> if it weren't for the bold actions of the suffolk county police department standing behind me and the firefighters standing behind me, we don't would have survived. >> reporter: suffolk county police officers on the scene heard cries for help from the water. for permission. they grabbed what kayaks they found from neighbor's homes and rode out to the exhausted and freezing victims. >> we found the boats and decided the only way we could get to them is take the kayaks out there so we can support them so they can survive and get to shore. >> is he a little shaken up. >> yeah, a little bit. >> reporter: authorities report they saved the pilot, the student pilot and another man on board.

but the fourth victim has not yet been found. lucy yang, channel 7 eyewitness news. investigators are still trying to determine if friendly fire may have been involved in the shooting of two nypd officers in brooklyn. the officers were shot early yesterday while confronting a gunman during a chase and shoot out. eyewitness news reporter, tim fleischer has more. >> reporter: one of those officers remains hospitalized tonight. the other has been released. in the wake of the shooting there are now calls for concern. >> the victim pulled a gun out, that they can shoot at police officers, they can shoot at our mothers and kids, we're here to say we're not tolerating that. >> reporter: frustration and outrage is being expressed by community advocates and shootings after the violent shooting. >> our streets and communities riddled with bullets. we have got to get these guns off of our streets.

converged on the car driven by 34-year-old jamal funes on lexington avenue. after funes rapid his car into police. responding officers fired 30 shots at the car. funes was critically wounded and police found this handgun on the front seat. investigators as a standard in police shootings are looking into the possibility that the officers could have been hit by friendly fire. officer william renton had been struck in the hit, officer and ewe -- andrew yurkiw, was hit in his punishment proof vest. >> let us thank god that the officers are doing okay. there was no loss of life. >> reporter: the mayor spoke of the incident during a religious service.

fired at and both came out of their ordeal. one walking around the hospital, thank god, the other will be out soon fully recovered. >> reporter: the mayor also said that officer redden wanted him to be aware that on friday while he was working, he had helped to make an arrest in which they were able to take yet another gun off the streets. report live in bedford. >> tim, thank you, and stay with eyewitness news for continuing coverage of the nypd officer shot in the line of duty. you can find information and updates around the clock at abc7ny. new information about a shooting rampage in kalamazoo michigan. a man randomly opens fire at three different locations, killing half a dozen people. abc's elizabeth hur here now with what we are learning about that gunman and his victims. elizabeth. >> reporter: sandra, first the victims, we don't have all their names. the youngest victim killed 17 years old. the oldest, 74.

looking into reports that he was working as an uber driver between the shootings. tonight as families o. victims -- of the victims, including mary joe nai a 64-year-old retired teacher are finding answers. police finding a silver lining in this tragedy. >> very relieved that we have someone in custody. >> reporter: overnight, a city was gripped with fear after a man opened fire at three different locations across a 13- mile span in kalamazoo michigan. first a parking lot, where a woman was shot several times, and a few hours later at a car dealership, a father and son killed, the third outside a cracker barrell suspect, taking the lives of some and leaving a 14-year-old girl in critical condition. >> you don't expect this to happen anywhere, let alone in

this is the most awful thing ever. >> reporter: the suspect, jason dalton, an uber driver was taken into custody hours after a final shooting. in a statement the company says our halts and prayers are with the families -- hearts hearts and prayers are with the families of the victims of this devastating crime. this crime is not just heartbreaking but baffling for police. >> it was unexpected. he was a quiet guy, stuck to himself. cops have never been out to his house before. >> reporter: also baffling because uber says the 45-year- old suspect passed their background check, and police confirmed he has no criminal history. he could be in court as early as tomorrow. joe, sandra. >> reporter: elizabeth, thank you. concert chaos on camera. >> coming up on eyewitness

caught on camera a massive brawl broke out on a stage in a hip hop concert in webster hall. the concert goers sent this video during a performance by a rapper. skate and fans brawled with security guards. there's no report of any arrest, and webster hall says the incident is just being investigated. the woman who's recording the video says the whole thing started with a fight between two fans. >> two fans started fighting in the crowd, so the venue stopped

back on, and then skate asked if they could just finish the show. he's almost done. turn the music back on, and security said no, and skate just kept asking and then security came onto drive skate off of the stage, and more fights broke out from there. >> skate later tweeted they kicking me on the ground, shaking my head, after i tried to save my fans from getting choked out. we stay blessed. security has no right to assault me, nor my family. i will die for them. once again, i have nothing but love for every single nyc fan. police are investigating another apparently random slashing attack. this one in the bronx. a 32-year-old man was walking on the street. he says a stranger approached him from behind and slashed his face. it happened on east 173rd 173rd street at around 3:40 this morning. the victim was treated at the hospital. police are still looking for the slasher who fled the scene. meanwhile police released pretty clear surveillance video

in yet another slashing in the bronx. police say this man slashed a man in the head after the victim accused him of cutting the lean at a food cart in mount eden. it happened on valentine's day. during that record breaking cold snap. doctors treated the 24-year-old victim for his injury. well, we all envoyed the

y, new aerial photos in from the government of fiji showing buildings destroyed and damaged by the tropical cyclone. ten people died as the storms slammed the island with winds up to 177 miles per hour. the gusts flattened villages and knocked down trees and power lines, along with the clean up, utility workers are scrambling to reestablish communications and power. >> they got slammed. yes, they did. we, on the other hand have enjoyed a relatively nice weekend, and as promised, the rain has shown up this evening. >> the daylight hours of the weekend were just about perfect, and the rain is here, and will only be here for a few hours. we head outside right now, and the umbrellas have come out on the upper west side of manhattan as we look outside of our studios here on the corner of 66 66th and columbus. that temperature right now 53 degrees. the wind is calm. the pressure is rising. so it's not, you know, it's raining out. it's not that bad.

and at least wind is really not an issue. temperatures of course still well above average. they didn't get up to levels they got up to on saturday when we were in the low 60s but still well above average nonetheless. here's what to expect, a little bit of rainfall this evening, and then nice into the day tomorrow as temperatures approach 50 degrees yet again. next storm system comes in very late tuesday and tuesday night. this could start as a light wintry mix areas north and west of the city. but for the vast majority of the reason, this is a mainly rain event and there could be significant rain, localized flooding with that. 46 morristown. 48 newberg. upper 40s on the island. you see on the radar, rainfall coming in right now. especially along and north of i- 80. a pretty good little batch of steadier rainfall from mount olive east toward troy hill, all the way east into parts of bergen county and this is moving almost directly from west to east, moving into the

rain on and off through the evening hours. check out what our future cast shows by midnight, the back edge of the rain already approaching the city, and after midnight, everything tends to move offshore, and we tend to clear things out. temperatures dropping into the upper 30s by tomorrow morning at 7:00 a.m. upper 20s and low 30s areas north and west of the city. back up to the middle and upper 40s by tomorrow afternoon. a lot of sunshine fast forwarding to tuesday. moisture returns after early sunshine. clouds increase by 4:00 p.m. tuesday, maybe some rainfall beginning over southern parts of the jersey shore. and if this comes in quickly enough, there could be some wintry mixing issues north and west of new york city perhaps for the tuesday evening commute. everything would go over to rain late tuesday night and especially into the day on wednesday. very strong storm system heading up through ohio valley. that's not a track that's favorable for winter weather here in the tristate area. we're in the eastern side of the storm, a lot of warmth streaming up the coast, and that means a mainly rain scenario, could be pockets of

well north and west of the city. accuweather forecast for tonight, some rain this evening, otherwise mainly cloudy, down into the mid-30s, it turns out, mostly sunny, pretty nice tomorrow. a high getting up near 50. partly cloudy tomorrow night. we're down to about 30. here's your accuweather 7-day forecast. again, on tuesday mainly cloudy, 41. we're going to have to watch very late in the day. there could be light rain developing perhaps, a mix north and west o. city. periods of rain -- of the city. periods of rain on wednesday. i think the i-est rain is lately. and -- heaviest rain is late at night. and then as we head into the day on thursday, the steadest exits early. and colder weather by next week and perhaps an arctic front by late saturday into sunday. temperatures falling into the 30s so it's kind of an active week, and nothing to extreme. >> okay. all right. thank you, jeff. laura behnke up next with a look at sports.

lebron james had 25 points, includeing that fade away over kevin durant. the cavs with the win. the st. johns men finally snapped their school worst 16- game losing streak with a win over depaul on wednesday. today they had a chance to start the other kind of a streak, in what turned into a wild one. the pirates had led by 19. the johnnies would come back. st. johns up but isaiah whitehead and boyka getting tangled up. whitehead would hit two free throws for the lead. st. johns had a chance, they just can't handle the inbounds passed there. that's going to do it, a little bit of a scuffle would ensue after the game. the pirates pulling off the win. two weeks after the super super bowls, it's the super bowl of racing.
