days. streets are still dry. they will be for the morning commute. that changes by midday. we still have 41, partly cloudy skies. little bit. we're below freezing in the northern suburbs. north of i-80. not too far from it in long island and down the shore as well. it's still about 38 in newark. here's the first of two storms over three days. rain spreading in to the delmarva. coast. rains at cape may. midday, about new york city. i think it starts as rain but probably some wet snow in western essex county, northern new jersey, right along i-80. this is not going to stick to area roadways. we're just too warm. as the afternoon wears on in to the evening commute, maybe slippery spots in to the north. rain. mainly rain off to the south then things will taper off during the evening hours. what you need to know is a mix

midday. rain coat, umbrella, even snow boots to the north. it's going to last in to the evening. there's a slushy coating to an inch or two. mainly north of new york city. mostly wet roads, slick spots to the north. big time rainstorm. maybe flooding rains and damaging winds. more on that storm and snowfall map coming up in accuweather in a few minutes. a community coming together tonight to grieve for a 16-month-old baby dead tonight. signs of trauma on his little body. his parents out of town, the child left with a nanny and her boyfriend, both apparently with extensive criminal records. both being questioned by police. carolina leid in the park hill section of staten island with the latest. >> police of course trying to figure out what exactly happened here. they're talking to both the woman who was watching this child and her boyfriend. but really the focus tonight was on this vigil. dozens of people who surrounded all of these candles, so many

cope with such a tragic loss. >> happy baby, good baby. really cute baby. the cutest baby ever. >> reporter: 16-month-old anthony delgado was remembered at a candlelight vigil outside a staten island home. an emotional night for friends, family, and neighbors. many praying for his grieving father and mother. >> he meant everything to her. he meant everything to martha. everything. her life revolved around that baby. >> reporter: hospital doctors observed possible signs of trauma on the baby's body. the baby's grandmother found him unconscious and unresponsive. police are questioning his 31-year-old babysitter. they're also talking to her boyfriend. that babysitter has nine prior arrests. her 53-year-old boyfriend has 25 prior arrests. a spokesperson said in a

the circumstances that may have led to the heartbreaking and tragic death of this little boy. >> i just pray that they give them what they deserve because i believe in my heart that they did that. i believe that. i believe that as a mother. >> an autopsy is scheduled for tomorrow. no arrests have been made in this case. reporting live in the park hill section of staten island, carolina leid, channel 7 eyewitness news. new at 11:00, $183 million awarded tonight to the families of firefighters killed or hurt in a ferocious blaze that came to be known as the black sunday tragedy. a jury tonight holding new york city and a landlord in the bronx liable for the two firefighters who were killed and four injured in january of 2005 when they had to jump from a burning 5th floor apartment because a fire escape was blocked by subdivided apartments.

the jersey turnpike and two people are dead. it happened on the westbound toll plaza in jersey city. one vehicle rear ended another and that caused the second vehicle to get in to a head-on collision with a van. two adults and a child were rushed to the hospital. the victim's identities have not yet been released. a critical new clue tonight in the search for a predator in brooklyn. police releasing this new image of a man wanted for abducting a 14-year-old girl last week in the sheepshead bay section. when the girl managed to pull free, the man ran away. talk about a frightening home invasion. new videos showing three masked men seconds before they barge in to an apartment in westchester county and go on the attack. the victims pistol whipped in pelham. lucy yang spoke to one of the victims. >> we're on the 500 block of 5th avenue here in pelham where there are stores on the street level and apartments upstairs. police believe the home invasion happened right above us.

arrests. >> this is the stuff of nightmares. only it wasn't a dream. police report three men in masks and gloves and armed broke in to a second floor apartment in pelham terrorized the couple inside. >> there's no description. they had masks on. >> do you know why you were targeted? >> no, i don't. >> reporter: i spoke with a woman behind the door tonight. according to authorities, the three intruders pistol whipped the male victim, struck another victim, then left without taking anything. >> we truly believe this is not a random act. we believe this particular apartment was selected. the apartment in itself is known to us but not known to have any illegal activity. so to us, we're very curious about this. >> reporter: a next door neighbor who did not want to be identified said she was about to go out when she saw the three men come up the stairs. a chilling sight, she ran back in to her apartment.

you did not know -- you knew something was wrong. >> yeah. >> reporter: as for the man who was pistol whipped, we're told he was taken to the hospital and given stitches. >> he's not feeling well at all. he's pretty shaken up. >> police think at least two of the men were armed but all three ran off when the woman started screaming. it's not clear why this particular apartment was targeted. in pelham, lucy yang, channel 7 eyewitness news. drama on broadway tonight and it's not on the stage, it's real life. the ex-boyfriend of a broadway actress under arrest tonight accused of making death threats against the star. actress yaquina kalukango. police say he had a knife in his pocket and said somebody's going to die. one of the two nypd officers

the suspect, jamal funez, is in critical condition and will face attempted murder charges. eight officers converged on his vehicle early saturday morning after police say he pointed a gun at officers. he has 15 prior arrests in new york city and 11 in chicago. a vigil tonight to remember the victims of the latest senseless gun massacre. people gathering in a park in kalamazoo, michigan. the accused killer, uber driver jason dalton, today denied bond. prosecutor says dalton admitted to the attacks. investigators believe he chose the victims at random, shooting them in between picking up fares. in the race for the white house, the candidates are in a last minute push. the remaining candidates crisscrossed nevada today ahead of the primary. marco rubio is rising in the polls.

one of three new jersey towns where verizon will test technology. it says it's 300 times as fast as the 4g phone you use today. from basking ridge i face timed tonight with one of the experts at cnet. this call on my iphone 6, a 4g get today. >> i don't know how it looks to you but for me it looks kind of muddy. it's a little glitchy. with 5g, how would this be different? >> i think it would feel like how you think of the internet being in movies, where everything is seamless and fast and you can instantly download things and have video chats with people. >> reporter: dan ackerman says you shouldn't get too excited. moving from 4g to 5g will undoubtedly be dramatic, we are asking more and more from our phones than ever before. cell phone companies just matching future demand. >> you can't even imagine the kind of data needs we're going to need once you move past 4k video to virtual reality and things like that.

underwater died today. two of the boy's family members are still recovering in the hospital. the canadian family was vacationing in hawaii. the cause of the crash is still being investigated. now to new developments in a plane crash here at home in suffolk county. recovery efforts to find the body of a 23-year-old passenger from queens resuming tomorrow. search crews are still looking for gurston, one of four people onboard a small plane that crashed in the waters of the night. survived. he was killed by police after going on a knife attack connecticut. tonight shockingly the man's widow is defending him. christopher andrews shot last week by police in fairfield. officers say he refused to drop the knuf after he attacked his wife and three children. mrs. andrews releasing a

some seeing is believing you are secure. the new safe room trend, part security but perhaps part status symbol as well. in tribeca, stacey sager, channel 7 eyewitness news. >> who gives up whose room to get the safe room? fascinating. we've got a mix of weather coming and snow. people are like, how bad is it going to be? >> not bad. snow won't be a huge story in this. you'll definitely see it in the air. there will be light accumulations. probably the bigger story will be that wednesday night rain which will be windswept and wind driven. let's start tonight with clouds rolling in from the south. it's quiet. 41 right now. barometer on the rise. high today, 52. we're coming off of 60 saturday, 50s last couple days. 9 degrees above average and we'll struggle to get to 40 during the daylight hours. these were the highs today at 54, the warm spot in newark. now numbers have dropped to freezing in stanhope. randolph, new jersey at 34.

this is where we'll see our first snowfall. 38 in east rutherford. long island is coming in in the mid 30s. upper 20s in the hudson valley. tomorrow morning, no problem out the door. but chilly, 26. noon time, rain mixed with wet snow over parts of northern new jersey. through the afternoon hours, now it's steadier. rain and wet snow. rain in the south. it's wet snow to the north. changing to rain and drizzle during the evening hours. light mix to the north. high clouds right now but still really clear over the hudson valley seeing the full snow moon tonight. thanks for the pictures @abc7ny. that's storm number one. there's the break which comes late tomorrow night. still raining but lightly. then the main course. and that's for wednesday night in to thursday morning with the heavy rainfall. here's the way it comes in. first of all through midday tomorrow we're quiet till the rain starts to move in close to lunchtime, through the morning

from florin park to morristown, blarestown, that's where we're seeing our first snowflakes. between 3:00 and 6:00 it's pretty steady here. temperatures are above freezing. roadways are wet. maybe a little slippery off to the north. then things will taper in to the evening hours. unfortunately this is custom built for the evening commute. will be slippery, sloppy and wet. then things will quiet down. i look for a coating or less on the city south. i think the rain-snow line will be wading over the george washington bridge. maybe to a coating or slushy inch or two north or west mainly on colder surfaces. 37 as we head out the door. up to 39. that mix coming in midday going to wet snow at times and then tapering during the evening hours. watch out for slippery travel. as we go in to wednesday night or even wednesday late day, that's when the rain is ramping up again and could be quite heavy through the overnight dropping an inch or two of rainfall.
