something on his face. he bumps into at man, words are exchanged and police say the suspect takes out a small pocket knife and slashes the 60-year-old man. >> we need nor police officers out here. -- we need more police officers out here. we have to be more careful, i guess. >> reporter: once again, the victim in this case stays on the train goes to work covering his face. when he goats to work, he's transported to the hospital with a slash wound on his face and also on his left hand. the suspect is said to be in his 40s. police are still searching for him right now. stabbings and slashings in the city are up nearly 21% this year over last. live in midtown, i'm stacey sager, channel 7 "eyewitness news." >> stacey, thank you. developing right now, former suffolk county police

pleaded guilty to a civil rights violation. he is expected to be sentenced to 51 months in prison, according to the plea deal with the u.s. attorney. burk was accused of assaulting a handcuffed suspect, who allegedly stole a duffel bag from his suv and tried to cover it up. he resigned in october. also developing right now in new jersey, schools in bergin county have gotten the all clear after a series of bomb threats. high schools in five towns got the threatening phone calls. new jersey reporter toni yates has the latest. >> reporter: bergin field got the all clear. students filed back into the building to resume the school day. threats were made against at least five bergen county schools. >> in the morning, going to first period, there was a bomb threat. then we had to leave. we had to go to church across the street or, like, down the road. yeah. >> reporter: you guys have been through this before, haven't you? >> yeah, a lot, actually. >> reporter: the sheriff's

investigation of the threats with the local police helping to secure the schools. the threats came in before 9:00 this morning. it was very much like the similar multi-school threat that just happened back on january 19th. an unfortunate common occurrence that law enforcement must follow through and students have to endure. doing this. >> it's crazy because this is a nice place. the fact that we have to go through a bomb threat every year it don't make no sense to me, i mean, honestly. that was toni yates reporting. new at noon, two people were hurt on staten island when a truck stubbed an suv into a house -- truck pushed an suv into a house. a driver of a container truck lost control and slammed into the empty suv on beach street just after 7:30 this morning. the impact sent the suv into the ground floor of a two- family home.

determine if the house is safe. it will take hours after swallowing the pickup truck in midland park. we talked to maybes on this dead end street. construction crews made significant damage and got a sinking feeling last night. the 20 foot by 30 foot sinkhole began forming on glenn drive in midland park. >> like a boom. kind of like a weird sound. >> reporter: jamie's home is just feet away from the gaping hole. >> like, if i was out there two seconds longer, it would have been my car. i just came back from the food store. so we heard the noise. i was like, what was that? so we looked out and saw the truck. >> reporter: the hole opened up as the public works pickup truck came to check out a bubbling manhole cover. raw sewage started coming out. it was a frightening moment for the men in that pickup. >> there were two people in

they got out on the other side. that's main thing here. >> reporter: the collapse happened after the sewer line overflowed. the result of what neighbors are hearing was a broken pipe. >> no experience like that. i never had that before. >> reporter: john meyer lives sinkhole. his gas had to be shut off. the other neighbors on the street did not lose utilities but did gain concerns. >> i was worried about the house. i was like, is my house going to be okay? go? >> reporter: as the work continued, crews were able to help all but one family find their way out of the dead end street. >> they did open the end of the street so the rest of the neighbors could get out down at the end. i'm kind of stuck here. >> reporter: nothing to do but watch? >> yes. >> reporter: neighbors say construction crews tell them the work should be wrapped up in the next 10 to 12 hours. until it is, the family that lives here won't be taking

in midland park, valerie hoff, channel 7 "eyewitness news." a new jersey sentencing expected today for the murder of a t neck man. tony was convicted of killing robert cantor in 2011. he and tom's wife were having an affair. cantor was shot in the back of the head and set on fire. tom faces life in prison. health officials in connecticut are vetting a case of tuberculosis at a stanford high school. a letter was sent to parents saying the city and state's health department are looking into the case. officials say the risk of exposure to others is extremely low. the school superintendent says the students and staff who may have been exposed will be notified and go through testing. turning now to the race for president. after last night's heated republican debate, the fireworks continued on the campaign trail today. marco rubio just held a rally where he called donald trump a con artist while mocking his age. it follows the line of attacks from last night's debate. >> are you the only person on

this afternoon it will be around 37, 39 degrees. tomorrow morning is a cold morning but the wind dies down. so around 28 to start the day. by afternoon, we'll pick up in the low 40s. tomorrow a little closer to normal. by the time we get to sunday at lunchtime, we start seeing the temperatures pick up in the 50s and then we even get to 60 by the time the afternoon is done. sunday, a warmer blustery, cold, 38. clearing cold night, winds diminish, 18 in the suburbs, and tomorrow we have sunshine and a breezy day on saturday. the high is 42. sunset is gorgeous. as we go saturday into sunday, monday ait's warmer. then wednesday a cold front comes through with showers and a thunderstorm. the temperature is 54 degrees. so it will be a little colder with a rain shower on thursday. be careful with the wind.

an airplane was forced to make an emergency landing in guam without its front landing gear. it was all caught on video. the cargo plane was about to touch down and the pilot tried to use the landing gear but it didn't work. you can see the front. plane hit the tarmac eventually. three people were on board and no one was hurt. a safe launch for an unarmed missile test. the minute meant ballistic missiles rocketed into the sky in california.

to unwanted visitor as the west lake middle school. two rats spotted in the building this week. on tuesday, one rodent was captured in the hallway and won't be seen or heard from again. a short time later, during a lunch period, another rat was seen in the cafeteria. the creepy critter got away. >> the third lunch period was held in a separate location to allow us time to sanitize and clean the argue and ensure that everything was safe. >> reporter: the school sits on a sprawling campus it shares with the high school. the middle school building backs up directly to a wooded area. that's where it's believed the rats are coming from. traps have been placed around the entire facility and other preventive measures are under way. >> making sure there isn't any food out and anything in the building is contained in a metal container. there are no holes in the entry to the outside. >> reporter: now, administrators did meet with parents yesterday.

inspected the building and found no evidence of an infestation. again, they are hoping those traps will address the problem. live in thorn wood, marcus solis, channel 7 "eyewitness news." >> marcus, thank you. there is a happy ending in the case of a stolen dog in new jersey. the dog was spotted wandering outside of a pharmacy last night just a few blocks from where it was taken in carney. police were called, and the dog was reunited with its owner. the puppy nabbed from the pet store is now safe. we're learning more about a fight in brooklyn that injured two people earlier this morning. police say a woman was shot and a man was stabd when a fight spilled out onto a street in bushwick. the initial fight might have been over a woman. that's when the 32-year-old man was stabbed in the stomach. they tell us the woman was shot in the leg when the gunman began firing into the crowd. a father claims his family was kicked off of a plane because his 7-year-old son had an allergic reaction to a

last year, 24 states introduced right to die bills and almost all of them mentioned brittany. the new york version would allow a certified terminally ill person to request life- sending drugs from a physician. today is the annual remembrance for a member of the city's finest who was murdered on the job. just after midnight, more than 200 members of the nypd gathered in jamaica queens to honor officer edward byrne. the rookie was gunned down on this day in 19 8. he was alone in his patrol he was alone in his patrol car while protecting a witness in a case. it happened five days after his 22nd birthday. >> it awakened the city and awakened this country. the reality that we had let the forces of crime and evil go far. >> four people are serving 25 years to life for officer byrne's murder. a brooklyn father facing harassment charges coming after

the low 40s, getting closer to normal, sunday. we'll warm up nicely. 50 by noontime. the next several hours the temperature starts to slowly drop here. by 7:00, we'll have sunshine and pretty sunset. so it will be blustery and cold with temperatures at 38. clear, cold tonight and that's 18 in the suburbs, 26 around the five boroughs and freezing tomorrow with a high of 42. warming up on sunday to 60. monday we start off looking at a little shower or sprinkle goes by. then clouds and near 60 on monday. we'll cool down after wednesday when the front moves through and maybe a thunderstorm on wednesday. don't worry about that. it's nice weekend weather. you can look outside now. >> it's great to see the sun. >> it's friday. thanks, bill. a popular clothing company
