where the suspect james dylan allegedly stabbed and killed the crime scene investigators are investigation. but, yes, i did speak with a woman who says dylan stabbed her in the head. the only thing that stopped him was that blood was on her hand. it was only when he saw the blood that he ran away. >> her wounds are fresh, a slash on her face and several stab wounds in her head, an inch and a half deep. sleep. i could only think about this because it was so traumatic. the mother of four says she had just left her house on 36th street yesterday morning when her neighbor, 23-year-old james dylan passed her on his bike. we looked at each other, he looked at me he said what are you looking at? and then he said a bad word. dylan then picked up a rock and

blocking her on the sidewalk with his bike. he then pulled a knife out of his back. >> that is when i told myself, i'm going to die here, i didn't know what was going to happen. that is when he grabbed me by the neck. he grabbed me by my jacket and he started to stab me in the neck. that was just the beginning of dylan's alleged crime spree. police say he stabbed and killed an owner of a nearby liquor store and sent another man inside the store on fire police responded with a barrage of bullets after finding him in his backyard on 36th street. he refused to put down a knife and had thrown an accelerant at two responding officers, burning their hands, a police officer remains guard outside his home this afternoon. >> it is just really sad to think that something like that can happen in a city like this. you feel very safe usually

there are so many cops but it doesn't protect you from a crazy person. >> dylan is undergoing psychiatric evaluation at elmhurst hospital, also recovering from the gunshots fired by the officers. neighbors tell me he comes from a hard working family and does suffer from mental illness. in fact, just a short time ago, mayor bill de blasio spoke about this incident saying the city needs to do more to help people who suffer from mental illness. >> this horrible tragedy over the weekend is not only very painful, but also very complex because the individual had no history of significant violence. there were minor criminal vio. >> the two police officers have the hospital. as for the man that dylan allegedly set fire to inside the liquor store here, he is still

channel seven eyewitness news. wow. thank you, kristin. a teen in connecticut accepting a plea deal for stabbing a class mate to on the day of the junior prom. christopher plascin pleaded no contest to murder and faces 25 years in jail. he was charged with killing 16-year-old maren sanchez at jonathan law high school in mill ford in 2014. his family and friends say he had been upset that sanchez turned down his prom invitation. the former salute for former nypd officer killed in the line of duty in texas. hundreds of police officers lining the streets for a funeral for officer david hoffer. dwrarl miles joins us live outside of saint patrick cathedral with more. >> as expected, hundreds of police officers arrived from the nypd, the department of corrections, new jersey, texas, all here to support the family of officer david hofer.

. top stories, a deadly crime spree in queens a man slashed a woman and went on to kill a store owner appeared set a homeless man on fire. police shot and wounded the suspect. two officers were hurt in the crime spree. we're told he they will be okay.

walk river after his car lands upside down in the water. authorities say on sunday morning, the car crashed through a fence and landed on the roof in the river. nor walk police and firefighters battled freezing water and hazardous conditions to get the truck driver out. he was taken to the hospital with serious injuries. no word yoet what caused the accident. >> -- no word on what caused the accident. >> scary moments when a teen was shoved onto the tracks but her quick thinking saved her life. the 17-year-old was at the roosevelt avenue and 103rd street station saturday night when a man in his 20's came up behind her and just pushed her onto the tracks. she landed on the tracks but was actually able to squeeze between the platform and the wheels of the on coming train. you can only imagine what she was feeling at that point. she made it out with only minor injuries. police are looking for her attacker. it is time now for vote 2016

is multiple tasking bad for your health? how to may be doing more harm than good. let's hope not. we'll have those stories appeared much more on eyewitness news first at four. i don't know what i would do without my multitasking. it is the only way i know how to function. time for the feed. the stories that got their start on social media and are getting shared and retweeted. we'll begin with the arrest of a man jay walking in cincinnati that is shared and retweeted online. charles herel started recording on his cell phone when he realized he was being followed by a police officer. he wondered if he was guilty of drinking coffee while black. when he crossed the street at a red light. he refused to show his hands to the officer and refuses to comply with the instructions and they end up on the ground as the officer puts the suspect in cuffs. he was arrested for jay walking, resisting arrest and carrying a small amount of marijuana. cincinnati police are investigating. >> incredible video.
