school officials notified parents this morning with the help of state and county officials alternative water supplies for drinking and food preparation have been delivered to all of the affected schools. water fountains have been shut off with signs posted in the bathrooms warning students not to drink the water. dep along with the state health department are coordinating to perform further tests andrew past lead test results from previous years. parents are concerned and they'll be monitoring this situation closely. >> you look at news and you listen to flint and you think of some place else and then you hear something like that going on in your own neighborhood and obviously you're concerned. so not only am i concerned about her drinking waurt in school, i'm worried about the water i drink in my own home. >> it is important to know dep says lead was not detected in the city of newark's water department source meaning the lead detected in the schools is coming from somewhere else.

that we'll have much more cast. for now, i'm live in newark. aj ross. channel seven eyewitness news. warm weather. -- unseasonably warm weather, we will shatter the record high. the last record was 69 degrees in 2000. we may be hitting 77 degrees today. meteorologist bill evans is outside the studios on the upper west side with a look at the accuweather forecast. >> we like 7's! why not 77 degrees? i'm doing weather here in the upper west side. i haven't seen people this early in the season, we're getting to the end of weather. folks are wearing t-shirts, shorts on the upper west side as well as around much of the area today. it looks really pretty. we have a hazy look to the sky, that is because of the warm temperatures and the cool water. the water temperature is 40. the temperature already 69 degrees and there will be a little battle this afternoon

the wind hangs to the west, the city will see the temperature driving up. notice the temperature in poughkeepsie inland, 77 already. 75 down the shore. that is a little bit of a southwest wind. so the battle rages on for where the temperature goes today most likely it will be around the 77-degree mark. there are the wind profiles. what is important to note is the south facing shores, coastal connecticut will be in the southerly wind. you see the coastal sections among the ocean county and around new jersey, that wind bends more southwest and that is really the dividing line there. western long island sound, you get the southwest wind. that is going to be the line as to where they will be. 70-degree temperatures and 60 island. this high pressure ridge is all the way back to the great lakes. it will last a couple of days. this afternoon, we're around 77. tomorrow morning, we start off in the mid and upper 50s. we'll talk about tomorrow,

high and rain tomorrow night. accuweather seven-day forecast. back to you. a developing story in yonkers. police shut down a section of the road when someone spotted a suspicious item inside a car. joe torres is live. >>reporter:. it looked real. that is the description from the yonkers police commissioner today regarding the suspicious device found by a woman inside her car here in yonkers. she quickly alerted authorities and the response was overwhelming. the yonkers police department, the westchester county bomb squad and even the fbi. take a look. the bomb squad rolled out the robot today to examine and even try to open a small suv parked here on high street and yonkers. when that effort failed, a bomb technician went to look at the vehicle and a car in the parking lot believed to be the one where the device was spotted all

detective was struck by a bullet from his partner's gun. >> the detective, on the passenger side of the vehicle, was reaching into the vehicle to make the arrest when the vehicle backed up and then it moved forward. at that moment, both the sergeant who was standing on the driver's side of the vehicl detective, where he, was they fired their weapons. so the detective was hit in the shoulder, a apparently, by the shot that came from his colleague. >> a total of four shots were fired. all of them, apparently by the officers after they converged. >> when it is have to do what you have to do. >> two suspects were quickly arrested. one of them had been wounded but not seriously. and the search continued this morning for a third suspect. who escaped into the . >> no clear description from police on the third suspect. we will, of course, post it as soon as we get it.

charges filed against two officers in baltimore after video surfaced of a beating in school. anthony spence, the school officer seen apparently slapping and kicking a teen, is now charged with a felony of second degree child abuse. he, and a second officer, who seemed to watch the beating are charged with misdemeanors of second degree assault and misconduct in office. school and police officials say they were shocked by the video. i was appalled, i was disappointed, it really cut to who i am as a person. i'm charged to take care of the children. we have certainly some folks doing things that were inappropriate. >> both officers are suspended but because spence is charged with a felony, he is not receiving pay. vice president joe bide and his wife jill are continuing their two-day visit. they met with benjamin netanyahu yesterday. it followed deadly virus

so as i said, we hit 77, it is record warmth, 30 degrees over the normal. we set a high tomorrow likely. we have 60s on the south shore showers set-up tomorrow night. that will make us cooler for cold. at bridgewater. 77 poughkeepsie. up to the inland areas are tom's river. so is wrightstown. with the southwest wind, the inland areas warm up. the coastal sections will be cooler. it is a 7, 8 miles an hour wind. not that much and we have clear skies, a lot of sunshine all the way back to the ohio valley this haze you're seeing is the warm air surging up over the cooler ground and the water, that is why we get the haze, so we're looking at temperatures this afternoon around 77. look at that. even down toward the jersey shore, and we're looking at temperatures starting out in the morning in the upper 50s.

james ryan is 28 years old from oakdale. he was driving drunk back in october of 2012 when he caused a chain of events on the long island expressway. that is, it was not his car that struck and killed nassau police officer joseph olivere but he is being held criminally responsible. now, today, the officer's two children were here in court. so was his father who looked distraught. none of them spoke. neither did ryan's parents but the district attorney did weigh in and so did ryan's defense attorney. >> james does feel responsible for drinking, getting behind the wheel of a car and getting involved in the hospital but doesn't feel criminally responsible, ultimately for the death of officer olivere. >> nobody walks out feeling victorious but there are certain messages that resound. drunk drivers kill. and they will be held accoun.

attorney wanted a sentence of at least nine years in prison. obviously, the judge tempered that. meanwhile, james ryan stood up, addressed the family of officer olivere. he said he was sorry he was drinking and driving. he didn't say he killed the officer directly. he did say he was sorry a great man has lost his life but already his defense is planning to appeal. we're live in mineola, i'm stacy staeger. eyewitness news. new at noon, a connecticut state trooper's cruiser, among those targeted in a string of break-ins. the car was parked outside of his home in milford. they were able to access a locked gun box and steal a semi automatic rifle and bulletproof vest. it is not uncommon for troop yefrs to leave the items in -- troopers to leave the items in their vehicle. >> they carry rifles, shotguns in the trunks. it is common, you'll see it in local police departments but

home so it makes it a different situation. >> nine other cars were also broken into in milford. police hope clues in one of the cases will lead to the culprits. authorities in orange county new york are on the look out for a so called iron man thief. a man who wore an iron man mask stole more than $1,000 from a dunkin' donuts in washingtonville last wednesday. nobody was hurt. the robber fled on 208 toward hampton burg in a black car with a woman behind the wheel. >> investigators are trying to figure out the exact cause of a large natural gas explosion in seattle, washington overnight. the fire department spokeswoman says the blast happened 40 minutes after crews arrived to investigate gas leak reports. nine firefighters suffered minor injuries but no residents were hurt. an apartment building and other dwellings were evacuated as a precaution. >> i was, like, seven blocks away. i felt it over there. >> this is devastating.

two days. 70s from new york city west but on the south facing shores, long island, coastal connecticut, we're looking at temperatures in the 60s with the southwest wind. the temperatures will drop, step back a little bit as we go into the weekend but we'll have to set the clocks back, too. or set the clocks forward i should say. saturday night into sunday. the temperatures will be warm even for normal afternoon temperatures this weekend and don't forget to set your clocks forward or you'll be late for everything on sunday. we'll look at 64 in massapequa. you'll barely get to 60 because of the wind over the chilly water which is at 40 degrees. look at tom's river. 81 already. that is the evidence of that low torching southwest winds here that makes it warm in the inland areas and comes across the water and cooler on the south facing shores and coastal connecticut from long island sound. water temperature is 41 degrees.
