and forth and give and take it has all come down to the final 36 hours and today, the railroad will continue to put pressure on the union. >> for commuters it was an ominous sign. strike contingency pamphlets on the seats of every new jersey transit train and this morning, the railroad's lead negotiator turned up the heat. >> there is no reason why this can't close today. it should close today. >> and if it doesn't close today it is their fault. >> i'm not blaming anybody. my point is to say to everybody, this should get done right now. let's get it done today. >> the railroad is clearly determined to put pressure on the union to settle today but with 36 hours left before the sunday morning deadline, sources close to them say the union has ample time to drive a deal. yesterday, the railroad announced that workers would be suspended, sick leave would be

to new york and back without the trains. new jersey transit is setting up five park and ride lots to accommodate commuters. they will provide buses only on week days during the morning and evening rush. if you use the park and ride at metlife stadium, buses will take you to port authority terminal in midtown. buses at the pnc outlet will take you into manhattan. if you use the parking lot at ramsey route 17 rail station, buses will take you to the lincoln harbor terminal where hudson river. in central new jersey, a park and ride lot will be set-up at the metro park station in woodridge. buses will take you to the harrison path station for services in the city. south in mercer county there will be a park and ride lot where you can connect to path service. in penn station. >>reporter: at this point the best advice is to start out early.

bellevue hospital. the suspect in a deadly shooting in queens will be in court today after police tracked him down 3,000 miles away. tyquan long was arrested in california earlier this week. he was extradited to queens where he faces charges in a double shooting that killed his girlfriend on january 27th. he is also accused of wounding a 51-year-old woman in that shooting. new york city police say they caught the man wanted for shoving a commuter onto the subway tracks in queens. man captured on surveillance video is 38-year-old george pout. he is charged with attempted murder. he pushed a 15-year-old girl in front of an on coming train in corona last saturday night. the teen managed to scramble between the platform and the train's wheels her quick actions may have saved her life. a wild scene on long island. a man managed to slip out of police custody, steal an

several cars. now the question is, how did he get behind the wheel? eyewitness news reporter darla miles joins us live in free port. darla? >>reporter: police say it was 36-year-old andrew howard who stole the police suv and crashed into this red mitsubishi behind me. he was in the car with two other women when he was arrested and it was when he was in the back seat of the police suv and when the officer, the arresting officer was speaking to the two women in the vehicle he was driving, they say that is when he took off with a squa. >> his car was here and it ended up all the way down there. >> this was pure automotive carnage, a stolen police suv taking out four cars on a dead end street. the oldsmobile that belong bonnie morsy's son, yikes! >> it looked like an accordion. the entire front was smashed. pieces of my neighbor's tree in it. >>reporter: behind the wheel,

howard who had been pulled over by free port police and arrested for outstanding warrants around 11:00 p.m. thursday. while in handcuffs, police say howard jumped into the front seat of the squad car and made a break for it. he grot a few miles away until merrick. >> we heard cars smashed up in the street and we look out here and they're pulling someone out guns drawn. out. my wife wanted to come out. i said get down, the guy has a gun. i don't know if they will shoot or not. who knows. >> he was quickly rearrested. >> he was going, the cops said about 70 miles an hour. we have a divet.

. an 86-year-old suspect and a catch of a life time. just some stories caught on camera and caught our attention. we'll begin with a car crash. we'll show you the driver speeds through an intersection and flies into a row of cars. six people were hurt in this chain reaction crash in los angeles. it happened just outside of a computer store where surveillance cameras were set-up and caught the whole thing as it was happening. the driver of the white car blew through a red light, slamming head on into an suv waiting for the light to change. it all caused a pile up in the as well. a burglary caught on camera in california, shocking because of the age of the suspect. police say this is 86-year-old doris thompson, also known as doris gamble. she can walk just fine. investigators call her the

she has stolen items from an office there three times. she has multiple arrests dating back 60 years. thompson was accused of murder at one point but was found incompetent to stand trial. finally, two fisher men in south carolina didn't need a bigger boat as they say in jaws. just extra manpower. they snagged a 2,500-pound great white shark on tuesday. the big fish then pulled their boat through the water for more than four hours, holy cow. the fish yes, sir men had to call for back up -- the fisher men had to call for back up. they put a tracker on it and set it free. >> 2,500 pounds. incredible!

this afternoon, we're also hearing from the family of a star athlete just hours after he helped his basketball team win a big game. police say 18-year-old caval haylett junior was standing with a group of people in poughkeepsie when somebody started shooting. there was brief pause and more gunshots rang out. haylett was hit and killed. his mother just wants to know who did this. >> i just want to know why! why! he didn't deserve that. if he wasn't the intended target, it don't matter. like i said, none of that is going to bring my son back. >> a second victim was shot in the arm. grief counselors will be on hand at poughkeepsie high school today. so far, no arrests have been made. two people are recovering after being shot inside a bar on long island. the shots rang out before 2:00 this morning inside cocoa's pub in nassau road in uniondale. the victims were taken to the hospital with nonlife threatening injuries.
