she waited for the police and you saw the girl laying there. >> reporter: a manhunt for the gunman ended a few hours later and 3 miles away at mercer park. >> i'm just sad right now. >> reporter: a man who calls himself shy jay heard the gunshot and said his sister called police as he ran outside. >> when i heard the gunshot, i looked out the window. when i looked out the window, i seen the little kid get off the swing and run and that's when i'd seen the guy slump. child. >> no. >> no. park by themselves. >> and they saw that? >> yes. >> so sad that those children were witness to that. they're still investigating this because it was a domestic violence murder. no word on whether or not the woman who was the victim had a gunman. the woman who was hit by the flying glass, the shattered

her car, she was treated and released before noon today. we're live in jersey city today, michelle charlesworth, channel 7 eyewitness news. also in new jersey tonight, we've just learned the names of the three family members who died in a house fire. 7-year-old nae ann may. 51-year-old maurice may also have died. several extended family members shared that home. at least eight people were inside. the family members want to know why their loved ones could not be saved. >> me and my husband tried to go in there. you had one officer seen that. he came and got us like no, you can't go in there. you can't go in there. that's our family you'rell not what you're 're going to go in and get a e on su ca minutes after a receiving the 911 call. confident firefightersthiding they could. receiving reports tonight of

the water of the deadly tug boat crash near the tappan bridge. the heroics after the 90-foot boat hit a barge, kemberly richardson with that part of the coverage. she's near the scene of the accident. >> paul amon was the captain. in those final terrifying moments as his vessel was quickly taking on water, he behind. as for the company which owns the sunken tug boat, it now has divers out here on the river trying to come up with a plan on how to raise that boat. the coast guard. >> reporter: today the first team of commercial divers headed to the exact spot where the tug boat, the specialist, now sits 40 feet down at the bottom of the hudson river. transmissions.

under the main span of the tappan zee bridge. >> reporter: first responders who rushed to the scene minutes after the tug boat hit a fixed construction barge. >> okay. it was submerged or partially submerged? >> fully submerged. >> reporter: all three crew members onboard the 90-foot vessel died in the crash. paul ammon was captain of the tug boat which for some reason veered off course. sources tell eyewitness news a worker on the fixed barge yelled to the captain to abandon ship, but he refused, saying his crew was trapped below. witnesses say the back of the tug boat was under part of the fixed barge that the captain was spotted running on deck but his vessel rolled under the fixed barge and sunk. captain was first pulled from the water. timothy was later found dead

>> had his whole life ahead of him. >> reporter: timothy worked at the cradle of aviation museum for about a decade. >> total shock. we know he loved the job that he had. he loved working on the tugs. had talked about it for years before he left here to go work there full-time. >> reporter: authorities say the morning of this disaster, the water temperature was a frigid 40 degrees. >> the most that a human can stay in that kind of water temperature is about 15 to 30 minutes and at that point they will most likely go in to a state of unconsciousness. >> as for that third crew members, harry hernandez, she's still missing and it's still not clear what caused this accident. captain ammon's funeral mass will be held thursday in new jersey. kemberly richardson, channel 7 eyewitness news. the family of a young

county was shot and killed by police in pleasantville have now reached a settlement. family of dj henry settling for $6 million. this is six years after he died. henry was a junior at pace university when he was shot back in 2010. police were responding to a call for crowd control at a restaurant. henry was driving away when an officer jumped on the hood and shot in to the car. that officer was not criminally charged. some residents of hoboken under a boil water advisory tonight. this after a 12-inch water main ruptured. that created a sinkhole that actually swallowed a car. the water main break happened before dawn on 1st street between clinton and willow. crews were on the job digging up the street for most of the day but one maxima actually got swallowed up when the pavement gave away. the owner said it gave him one rude awakening. >> the car alarm was going off which woke us up in the apartment. looked outside, saw the street was flooded. only took a few seconds to figure out it was my car whose

>> the water main break affecting 20 residents, several businesses. no word on how long this is going to take to get this stretch of first avenue open again. they're calling it a mini super tuesday but tomorrow's primary is likely to be huge for two of the remaining republicans, especially in the pivotal states of ohio and florida. voters in those battleground states plus missouri, illinois, north carolina heading to the polls for both parties tomorrow. the frontrunner republican donald trump takes ohio, it would be nearly impossible to nomination. >> we're taking from the democrats, remember the democrats for reagan? we have it bigger. it's democrats for trump. it's a bigger number. it's democrats. we're taking also though from independents, and we are taking from people who have never ever voted before and they're 50 years old. >> ohio governor john kasich tied with trump in the latest poll in the buckeye state. marco rubio trailing far behind in the polls of his home state of florida where trump is

a bizarre mystery tonight involving a mother who dodged death last year. somebody tried to assassinate tyrita julius. she was shot eight times last fall, in the hospital for months. but last week she suddenly vanished. tim fleischer with the story in linden. >> as you point out, a baffling mystery. this new jersey mother with two teenagers never showed up at home here in linden, now her family is extremely upset. >> i know sooner or later she's

>> reporter: queen julius refuses to give up hope. she knows her daughter tyrita will come home, even though her whereabouts a mystery, missing for six days. >> i sit at the door, waiting for her to come home. >> no idea where she might be? >> no idea where she might be. >> reporter: tyrita, her mother says, went to lunch with a friend in ocean township march 8th. afterwards the friend said she dropped her off to catch the train in longbranch back to linden. it should have been an hour ride. what makes tyrita's disappearance more troubling is she's still recovering after being shot in a terrifying ordeal with her 15-year-old daughter in november of last year. they were getting in to their car in linden when police say they were ambushed. tyrita was hit several times and her daughter was grazed. >> the daughter was getting in to the passenger side of the car. when she observed a man they were starting to pull out of the driveway, the man proceeded to fire multiple gunshots.

daylight saving time can be hazardous to your health, and for some might even contribute to a stroke. it's a recent study from finland. tracked the number of strokes before and after daylight saving time. it found the risk of stroke increased 8% after we spring ahead. cancer patients were 25% more likely to suffer a stroke during that time. doctors say losing a second of sleep, even a second of sleep can affect your health. that's what this is about. less sleep. because we've got one hour less. but usually we have brighter skies after daylight saving. puts a bounce in your step. >> a little push and pull the last week of winter. >> how much longer? >> we actually warm it up pretty nicely over the next few days. the problem is as we come through the upcoming weekend there could be a storm. the ceiling going down between a thousand feet and 1200 feet. a little lower with the empire state building. those clouds moving fast.

gusty winds out of the northeast. i think a lot of people not going with the umbrella and light rain because you hold it, it goes inside out immediately. it's really blustery outside. kind of a biting wind. the good news is we're actually at our lowest temperatures now. we actually creep up a little bit overnight. wind goes northeast and north. we try to dry it out later tonight. there could still be steadier periods of rain early. average high about 49. goes in the books about a day above average. no record highs today. central park. might get another 10th or a little bit less than that. pushing 3/4s of an inch or more in the jersey shore. half inch on long island and connecticut about a quarter of an inch less in danbury and very light amounts. still chilly there but at least drier. half an inch in newark. your weather headlines, there steadier rain. not necessarily sure i'd call it heavy but a little steadier. have the umbrella.

and dreary by dawn. then as the day goes on, skies should brighten. maybe even a few breaks. that should take our temperatures well in to the mid 50s, maybe upper 50s. only 41 in fort wasworth. astoria coming in at 32. 36 in monticello. 45 in belmar. with these winds feels like we're in the 30s. we're 20 degrees cooler than we were yesterday at this time. rain and drizzle first part of the night. drizzle and fog later on. winds are shifting. look how the numbers actually rise a little bit by morning. then we're in the low and mid 50s. about 50 at lunchtime. then during the afternoon mid and upper 50s if the sunshine can come out. still heavier pockets of rain over the nassau suffolk border. not far from huntington and heavy over the twin forks as well. this area may still blossom or fill in a little bit with additional showers. that's why i'm allowing for a little more rainfall during the evening hours. then a break as we come in. this area here splits in two.

rain. a little drizzle early. then clouds can try to break for a little sunshine. underneath that system which is the upper level part of the storm, temperatures have been in the 60s. we get any type of brightening, upper 60s. see how the computer model wants to keep in some of the rainfall. it might be a little over done but have the umbrella handy. tomorrow morning after the drizzle leaves, we have breaks in the clouds, mid and upper 50s. by wednesday we're looking at partial sunshine but then the clouds will try to thicken during the afternoon hours. 42 tonight. drizzle and fog. tomorrow is 58 after the damp morning. we have brightening in the afternoon hours. fog and partial clearing tomorrow night at 48. your 7-day shows 60 degrees on wednesday and st. patrick's day looking at least a dry start to the parade. it's around 60, mild. might have a shower second half of the parade in to the afternoon hours. friday is okay. can't rule out a shower. 56. better half of the weekend and rain and maybe inland snow sunday in to early monday, the
