police are holding a briefing this afternoon. we will be keeping you updated. also on long island, a mother was rattled after two masked men burst into her home, ordered her to get on the floor and then went after her two sons. police say the two men were armed when they pushed the woman's 21 year old son into the home and demanded money. hearing the commotion, the woman's 25 year old son ran down stairs. he was shot in the leg as he tried to run out of the door. >> i was just pushed down to the ground and i didn't move no more but my kids came down. i really never would have thought i would see my son get shot. reporter: the woman says the men took her cellphone, cash and other items from the home before they ran off.

a high school basketball player gunned down after leaving a game. >> schools are closed today so students can attend the funeral. . reporter: the out pouring of grief for this young man has been overwhelming. earlier this morning, hundreds and hundreds of classmates and other friends stood waiting the for the viewing to begin. a young man, kaval was 18 years old with a life full of promise. his older brother, trevor johnson. >> a very good young man, family oriented, athletic. his character speaks for itself. reporter: a life now being remembered by hundreds of mourners who stood in line pay their respects >it's so sad,
