new york city, we talk about midtown manhattan, closer to 6:20 because the storm coming to parts of northern new jersey. 6:43, danbury. 6:45, hempstead. this is another future scan radar confirming in to new york city. 7:00, long island. heavier downpours could be over connecticut as well. brief heavy downpours, lightning, small hail. not a lot of wind with this. just take it slow if you're headed out the next few hours. full accuweather forecast in just a few minutes. now to those illegal street racing deaths. 19-year-old cory gloe supposed to be sentenced to six months in jail but now mr. gloe could face a longer sentence after his arrest last night. police say he was a passenger in a speeding car and they say they found a knife and marijuana in that vehicle. stacey sager in east meadow with the latest. >> a judge had warned this teen to stay out of trouble. he was about to get only six

race that killed five other teens. now cory gloe is back in trouble and headed back here to the county jail. >> there's no remorse. zero. >> reporter: and they say they are not surprised that 19-year-old cory gloe is back in police custody today. only one week after pleading guilty to a 17-count indictment, including five counts of second-degree manslaughter after starting a street race nearly two years ago here in farmingdale which left five fellow teens dead. the judge in that case assuring gloe if he'd stay out of trouble he'd be sentenced as a youthful offender. but gloe was arrested again, this time with a pocket knuf in -- knife in a speeding car where he was a passenger. >> he's got a lot of soul searching to do. >> reporter: today gloe's mother avoided the cameras in court but his attorney suggests it was not gloe's pocket knife.

proper investigation and i think at the end of the day they're going to do what's right and just in this case. >> reporter: but what's right and just, well, it depends who you ask, and these relatives of gloe's victims don't think justice is only six months in prison as a youthful offender when five people are dead. do the math, says the mother of victim carly lonnborg. >> how would you like to think your child's life was only worth 21 days in jail? that's a crime and injustice against the families. >> reporter: this latest arrest, proof they say that gloe deserves more time. >> how many more lives do we need to lose before the system stops giving these slaps on the wrist? >> today was anything but a slap on the wrist for cory gloe. the da had requested $25,000 bail. the judge set bail at $50,000. the judge also said it's very likely gloe will lose his status

is sentenced on may 20th. live outside the county jail in east meadow, stacey sager, channel 7 eyewitness news. also on long island, an indictment tonight for the limousine driver who allegedly caused a horrific crash that left four young women dead. carlos pino charged with assault and negligent homicide. he drove his limousine in to the path of a pickup truck while making a u-turn. they said he could not see oncoming traffic. eight young women were in the limousine. four were killed. the other four seriously hurt. the driver of the pickup now charged with drunk driving. worries about lead contaminated drinking water in public schools in newark are growing tonight, beyond the schools. testing of students begins tomorrow. now we're learning testing is also being done at public housing projects. eyewitness news reporter michelle charlesworth is at newark city hall with more. >> that's right. they've been testing the actual buildings and the water inside

the newark public housing authority. they say they've looked in to low rise buildings as opposed to high rise buildings and they've looked in to four different family sites. regarding the schools, we talked to students today, the mayor, and we got perspective from the head of poison control for new jersey state. >> reporter: this is what public school water fountains look like right now in newark with a cooler and a sign that reads do not drink from the water fountain. the senior at bart high school says people are mad. >> a lot of kids at school do drink that water. they put up signs saying do not drink. >> if you want to get your child tests because there's some anxiety, you can get your child tested immediately. >> reporter: mayor ras baraka says testing is available starting thursday and says he is concerned about pictures but explains since the state is in charge of schools, preventing or fixing this is not easy. >> they can't run the school

front of the crisis that exists under their management. >> we should have known all along that there is going to be lead contamination in these old buildings and we should have done something proactively. >> reporter: he explains testing people and kids at $15 a pop is expensive and could cost hundreds of thousands of dollars. and that the money could be used more wisely. >> you could replace a hell of a lot of those faucets, a hell of a lot of those fountains for that half a million dollars, and prevent going ahead. >> reporter: he cautions people should react but not overreact. lead fixtures in pipes are everywhere in schools and homes. >> 35% of the housing stock in new jersey was built prior to 1970. fix them. >> let's go to a live picture right now from arts high school in newark.

vanished from a carnival in sayreville in 1991. his body was found in edison. while the details of how he died remain unclear, prosecutors believe it was at the hands of his very own mother, 48-year-old michelle lodzinski. >> healthy 5-year-old little boys don't end up in a creek dead. >> reporter: now facing murder charges, lodzinski sat quietly as prosecution and defense made opening statements. this blanket presented as a key piece of evidence. >> this blanket that was recovered within 30 feet of the body. >> the hair was years. >> reporter: however, the defense argues there's no forensic or trace evidence connecting lodzinski to the blanket or any other pieces of evidence including timmy's remains. a small ninja turtle shoe discovered by an fbi agent near the scene of the crime.

the new statewide ferry service coming to new york is going to be a bit cheaper than riders are currently used to. ferry fare prices will drop to $2.75 when it begins next summer. it will be run by horn blower cruises and events and will include new stops in astoria, red hook, bay bridge and the rockaways. new at 6:00, a rejuvenation ahead.

victims of superstorm sandy. >> not a human victim, but a building. a museum. the south street sea port museum opened today for the first time in nearly three and a half years. >> the museum flooded by up to 7 feet of water tonight now back in business. here's meteorologist jeff smith. >> there's a reason they call new york the city, and that reason originates here in the seaport. >> reporter: captain jonathan bullware doesn't hold back when talking about the importance of the seaport. >> this is the place that turned new york from a small coastal port really in to the biggest port in the world. >> reporter: he's the executive director of the south street seaport museum, a place where you can see, touch, and hear maritime history of new york. >> when we occasionally rang it for ceremonial purposes, the person who does the ringing has to wear heavy earmuffs to protect their ears. >> in this piece of wood we can learn a lot about how it was put

vanilla green tea frappuccino. we have some thunderstorms that we're watching. actually some small hail. this is actually from my twitter page. thank you for giving us all your storm reports on abc7ny. his name is daniel and he's in north brunswick. there's lightning, if you look very closely some very small hail along with heavy downpours. we look across the hudson. you can see the rain falling across parts of staten island and back to about perth amboy. there's a heavy downpour and a couple more coming through. 56 right now. not much wind with this. the high was 64. we've dropped quite a bit. tomorrow will be mild as well. after the storm, 54. soho, 56. 50 in woodhaven. we'll see these showers getting in to queens and brooklyn over the next hour. long island after 7:00. a shower or thunderstorm through

by the time we see eyes news at 11:00 maybe there's a left over shower around but otherwise we're partly to mostly cloudy. we turn breezy during the midday and afternoon. we're mild and there can be an afternoon passing shower. look at the thunderstorms here across the hudson valley, heavy in duchess valley. bergen, passaic counties. let's go from south to north. thunderstorm here could have a touch of small hail. just south of howell. showers near sayreville so another round headed toward staten island. that's near edison. this cluster right here is about to get to new york city ar6:30. heavy thunderstorm with lots of lightning near wayne, new jersey getting in to ridgewoods and oakland and northern bergen county. after that it will go in to rocklin and westchester. looks like lightning coming in there. putnam, same thing. new york city close to 6:30. bridgeport, 7:07. moving in to louisiana after 7:00.

offshore probably 8:00 or so. during the evening hours, have your umbrella. isolated shower later on tonight. sunny tomorrow morning then clouds will gather during the afternoon with a passing shower. good for the parade although after 1:00 or 2:00, have the umbrella for that passing shower. it will be dry tomorrow night. then we start to turn cooler late week. shower, thunderstorm around this evening. partly cloudy. 46. 63 tomorrow. sun mixing with clouds. breezy. there's a passing shower unt afternoon. tomorrow night we turn partly cloudy and 44. things change on friday. yes, it's 53, but it feels like 40s with the wind. showers can pop up after lunchtime. then it turns really chilly at night, down to 29. 44 on saturday. better half of the weekend. then a storm gets close enough to the coast on sunday. i think it's close enough that at least we have rain mixing with wet snowflakes. worst case is there might be slushy accumulation from this. we'll have to see how close this storm gets. 45 on monday.
