sandra bookman. >> protesters marched near central park. >> joe sandra the protest started to wind down at minutes ago. you can see there is still a handful of protesters here across from trump international hotel and tower. hundreds gathered peacefully with signs, chance and more creative forms of expression while a handful were reportedly arrested and pepper sprayed after confrontations with police. >> reporter: the trump protest drew hundreds of demonstrators to the heart of the city saturday afternoon where they park. protesters flooded the sidewalks for hours as hundreds more police officers stood by, ensuring nothing got out of hand and traffic was not interrupted. at some point a handful of protesters reportedly threw water bottles at officers and

many describe the overall protest as a peaceful gathering and a much needed counter to trump's campaign. >> we are here to counter trump's hateful rhetoric against immigrants, muslims and many other people. he claims to have the support of vets and we are not going to let him have it that easily. >> i think it is good to show him a lot of people don't approve of what he is saying. >> reporter: again this is just a fraction of the numbers that we saw this afternoon. some of these protesters have been out here for hours, coming up on eyewitness news at 6:00, i'll have much more with mr. trump, who is on the campaign trail today and what he has to say he is bringing to this race. aj ross, channel 7 eyewitness news. new york wasn't the only place to experience a trump protest. as many as 50 people blocked the only major road in phoenix leading to the town where trump held an event today.

while they honked, the protest stayed peaceful. nearly all the protesters moved when police asked them to but police did arrest three people. the candidates are rallying out west ahead of primaries there. republican ted cruz is hop scotching through air air and utah. agreed he spent time near the mexico border in arizona. the other gop competitor, john kasich will be holding a town hall in southern utah in about an hour. turning now to the democrats and a similar path for bernie sanders. he is appearing in utah today following a press conference along the border in arizona. there is plenty of undecided voters. in order to secure the nomination sanders has to win practically every contest moving forward. stay with eyewitness news and abc news for coverage of the race for president and you can get the very latest on the campaigns at our website abc 7

just click on politics. many may want to flock to central park tomorrow for the first day of spring. but then again, maybe not. a wintry system is moving in. the new york city department of sanitation issued a snow alert for tomorrow. jeff? >> reporter: the main impact from this system will be late tomorrow into tomorrow night. already a winter weather advisory for nassau and western suffolk counties on long island from tomorrow afternoon right through 6:00 a.m. on monday. a winter storm watch eastern suffolk county, where they can expect even more snow in those areas. they will be closer to the center of the storm. speaking of precipitation and snowfall and rainfall, we have some occurring. not in our viewing area but over extreme southern parts of new jersey. this is the first piece of the system which will slide off to our south. we are awaiting a much more vigorous piece of energy swirling here over iowa. this will dive down into

take the old left hand turn up the eastern seaboard for tomorrow night and a very early monday. on this track we are on the northwestern flank of the storm. we will have snowfall beginning late tomorrow afternoon. we have cold enough air in place for this to mainly be in the form of snow, even right down to the coast. so here are your weather headlines. by the way, spring begins just after midnight tonight, how ironic. snow possibly mixed with rain right at the onset late tomorrow afternoon, lasting through tomorrow night. 1 to 3 inches east. that can include queens and brooklyn. and 3 to 6 inches over eastern parts of long island. in the city itself, roads should remain mainly wet, because temperatures are going to be marginal. but it could be a different story east of the city. we'll get into many more details, including a detailed snowfall accumulation map coming up on your full accu- weather forecast in just a few minutes. developing right now in new

stealing a tractor trailer led police on a chase in new jersey that came to a wild end in irvington. >> now one officer is hurt and the driver is under arrest. stefan kim is live at the scene with the latest details. stefan in. >> reporter: joe and laurie there was a wild scene. eyewitnesses described an out of control tractor trailer cab came barreling down this street here, smashing into several cars and turning here before being penned in by police. look at this visit showing the view from above. the man behind the wheel had stolen the tractor trailer cab and was being followed by its owner, who called police. eyewitness news learned the tractor trailer was stolen into union down route 22 back into newark. then it ran into two police cars, hit a couple of civilian cars. cops say at one point the cab

here to the newark irvington border. the cab struck two police cars again as police attempt toed to pull it over. >> he hit the corner, got in stopped. the door flew open he was going to jump on. he jumped back in. the door flew open again. an officer jumped out of his car and into the moving tractor trailer, got in with him, got the car to stop. they must have hit him in his head or however. they pulled him out of the truck and threw him inside the police car. >> >> reporter: there was one officer with minor injuries newark. the driver was arrested charged with aggravated assault on a police officer for using the cab as a weapon. other charges of course are pending. reporting live here in the newark irvington bored are stefan kim channel 7 eyewitness news. stay with eyewitness news for the latest on this

victim of a deadly hit and run in manhattan. 44-year-old kenya flores of the bronx was struck by a yell lowe cab in a bus lane on first avenue right near stuyvesant this morning. investigators believe flores was lying in the street when she was hit. a cane found nearby may have belonged to her. $2 billion to build, but already new york's hudson yard station is plagued with water problems and leaky ceilings. >> what it will take to fix all the problems. >> coming from queens over here to the west side. there weren't really that many subway options. >> reporter: six months after it opened chris a ole la can't believe his eyes. the nearly $2 billion subway station that took 13 years to complete already looks like this. >> reporter: even while you are on the escalators.

tonight tomorrow morning will not reach the ground. normal high we should be above the 50-degree mark. only 46 today, nothing like the officially arriving. it would be nice if we had these scenes tomorrow afternoon but that is unfortunately, not going to be the case. 45 in the park, 45 in new burglary, 45 in monticello and lower middle 40s on long island. echoes showing up over parts of ocean county. i wouldn't be shocked to see a sprinkle or snowflake that would be about it. the main show from this storm is late tomorrow into tomorrow night. temperatures dropping down into the lower 30s 20s in the suburbs by early tomorrow morning. for start time at the half marathon you are really going to have to bundle up out there. about 38 degrees in the city.

temperatures are well before freezing, initially it can be snow mixed with a little bit of rain as it moves in just before dusk tomorrow evening. that goes over to all snow as you get colder air with the wind coming in from that direction and colder air from up above when you get the heavier precipitation rates which would be over long island over parts of the jersey shore. temperatures in these areas are cooler than in the city. these will be the places where snow could cover the roadways, especially parts of long island. where you get temperatures through daybreak on monday and a nice recovery monday afternoon. so any snow that does fall will melt rather quickly. >> snowfall through tomorrow night. right on the 1 inch line in new york city, a coating to an inch over much of say, central and nest new jersey and the hudson valley. 1 to 3 inches brooklyn queens, eastern ocean county, we are

stories. hundreds of demonstrators gathered in columbus circle in manhattan today to protest presidential front runner donald trump. police made several arrests and then described the protests as peaceful. a driver in a stolen tractor trailer led officers on a wild chase in new jersey. authorities arrested the driver after the truck crashed in irvington. one officer was hurt in the incident. authorities are examining a pair of flight recorders from a deadly plane crash in russia. investigators believe bad

wind may have led to the crash that killed 60 people. i'm joe torres and i'm in for sandra bookman. police have captured the terrorist after months on the run from the paris attacks. >> reporter: one of the most wanted men in the world was charged with terrorist murder and participating in a terrorist organization. salah abdeslam was arrested friday. officials say that's him in the into custody. the so-called eighth attacker from november's paris massacre limping along after police shot him in the leg. he was released from the hospital and into police custody. >> i can tell you he is collaborating with the belgian justice and will refuse the extradition to france. >> reporter: the 26-year-old had been on the run for 126 days.

the attacks that killed 130 people. investigators believe salah abdeslam drove the car to dropoff the team of isis suicide bombers. but authorities believe instead of detonating his own suicide vest, he fled back to belgium. law enforcement focused their search on the brussels neighborhood when he grew up. but over 100 raids netted nothing until tuesday. for four months there was a massive manhunt. in the end salah abdeslam was found right here in this building just a few hundred yards away from his family's home. after a shoot out at this house, his fingerprints were found inside. he may have escaped through a back window. then 72 hours later police moved into this street, the raid ending with salah abdeslam and four others in custody. >> there will be interrogations

>> what is important to know is salah abdeslam is under arrest. >> reporter: channel 7 eyewitness news. the fight against isis claimed another person life. the pentagon confirms a service member was killed by an enemy attack on saturday night. the troop was based outside of mosul, iraq. isis mean while released a new propaganda video showing a british man. jhonatan can'tly is shown, perhaps under duress, mocking u.s. air strikes. isis has used him in several videos. two brothers face charges after police say one of them opened fire on a man in broad daylight. 56-year-old larry williams is charged with attempted murder and accused of firing shots at a man yesterday afternoon in

police say he took off in a car driven by his brother, 54-year- old robert williams. both of the men had heroin on them and two handguns were found at their home. new york city shut down a construction site after the started asking questions about safety. the most dangerous in new york in fines. >> after the buildings department let construction continue, eyewitness news investigators asked who was overseeing the site and its safety,. >> reporter: this 7-story apartment building in the bronx ranks among the worst construction sites in the city. it racked up so many fines for endangering its workers and the public that late last year city building inspectors kicked a general contractor off the project. in this video, the risks and the dangers at the site continue. workers doing masonry work along the edge of the building,

check out this new video. a stunning light show over houston. last night's storm created a spectacular looking display in the sky. a lightning strike apparently caused a fire at an oil equipment site in the houston area and that storm by the way also damaged more than two dozen apartments in the corpus christi area. as we head into spring you typically see weather like that. not like we are going to get tomorrow night.

>> this is probably winner's last hurrah, we hope. the new york city half marathon is tomorrow morning. looks like it will be dry. very cold. temperatures at race time probably about 34 degrees, maybe upper 30s by the time the elite runners come in. >> temperature in the park. the wind is officially calm. and really into tomorrow either. i think the wind starts picking up a little bit from the north temperatures gradually falling down to about 30 with lowering and thickening cloud cover. 41 west hampton out toward the east end. at monticello. 43 down the shore at toms river. a winter weather advisory already in effect for nassau and the western half of suffolk county. the eastern half of suffolk county under a winter storm watch.

afternoon through very early monday morning, ending at 6:00 a.m. just before the sun comes up. winter storm because they are expecting more snow on the east end of the island. you see echoes showing up over extreme southern parts of new jersey extending up through parts of ocean county. there would be a couple of sprinkles, maybe a wet snowflake as this initial wave of low pressure moved off for itself. we have to wait for the other vigorous system to take a left hand turn up the coast. this will cause the lion's share of the snowfall late tomorrow and tomorrow night. the main show here is tomorrow night with the storm tracking off to the northwest. we are on the cold side of things mainly in the form of snow. it mainly begins as a rain snow onset. but as the snow comes down more

air from above especially where it is coming down from long island. here's what we are expecting in terms of snowfall. right around an inch probably in manhattan. the roads probably remain wet in and around new york city but it will be a different story as you get into heavier bands off to the east. a coating to a percentage over new jersey. brooklyn and queens can get into this 1 to 3-inch band that extends into connecticut, extreme eastern long island. 3 to perhaps as much as 6 inches of snow. but don't despair. check this out. we have temperatures back in the 60s middle part of next week. here is your accu-weather forecast tomorrow night. increasing clouds down to 32. tomorrow is a cloudy, brisk and cold day. wet snow and rain arriving, the high getting up to around 40. that switches into all snow.

connecticut confirms its first case of the zika virus. the unidentified patient is between 60 and 69 years old. the person traveled to a zika infected area and showed symptoms after he or she returned home. those include a rash, headache and muscle aches. the patient is now recovering. zika is a mosquito-borne illness that could lead to birth defects in unborn children. a little pain at the pump if you are hitting the road for spring vacation. aaa mid-atlantic says the average price of a gallon of regular gas in new jersey is $1.72.
